David Beckham: “I can’t even look at Harper without welling up”

David Beckham covers the new issue of Men’s Health Mag. I think he’s on the March covers of both the American and UK editions. We haven’t really discussed how David and Victoria are staying put in LA, have we? After much discussion about a possible move to Paris to play for a French team, Becks decided to stay put in California and sign on with the LA Galaxy for another year. He recently described how much he likes living in LA, and how the kids like their schools and the boys are even developing little American accents. David made it sound like it was his decision to stay, and Victoria would have been fine with anything. I personally think Posh likes it in America too – less judgment, more acceptance for her. Big, A-list American celebrities are wearing her clothes and her business is here too. Anyway, David has been talking about how happy everybody is, and some of the quotes are just too cute:

On having more kids: “We might have one or two more [kids], you never know. We’re not thinking about it yet, but if it happens, great.”

On Harper Seven: “She’s seven months now. I can’t even look at her without welling up. After having three boys, you just assume that you’re going to have another boy, but when we got told she was a little girl, it was amazing, amazing.”

The older boys: “Since I’ve had a daughter I’ve got them all into martial arts. I just want them to protect her when she’s at that age. At that age when she needs protecting. Cruz does taekwondo, Brooklyn does boxing and Romeo does karate, so they’ll all be ready…But Cruz is the one who’s going to really look after Harper, he’s the tough one.”

The kids are competitive: “It would be easy for our kids to sit back and not work for anything, but they’re not like that. They’re as competitive as Victoria and me. We’re very lucky with our boys: They want to win. They want to work at something. They know their values. That’s the way we’ve brought them up so far, and that’s the way we’ll continue to bring them up.”

On family: “Family is the most important thing to me. That will always be the case. I’ve got my wife. I’ve got my four kids. I’ve got parents, grandparents still, and three really good friends. It’s all you need. I’d rather have three really good friends than 20 good friends.”

[From Us Weekly & The Mirror]

Aw…so cute. And while I believe that Becks has screwed around on Posh, I also believe that he loves Victoria and their family. He spends a lot of time with his kids, and he seems like such a hands-on father. Maybe it’s an act, I don’t know. But I buy it.

Here are some cute pics of Posh and Harper! I love Harper, she’s such a cutie.

Victoria Beckham wants to dress Tilda Swinton: possible or dream on?

Victoria Beckham covers the March issue of Numero Tokyo in what I feel is basically a move to show off how skinny she is since giving birth to Harper Seven last July. Yes, she looks good if you’re into the toothpick look. The excerpts for the accompanying interview thus far are scant but give a bit of insight into the mind behind the image. Victoria really is all image, isn’t she?

On Her Dream Fashion Show Front Row: “My husband. David has never been to any of my shows as I’m incredibly nervous and I need to focus and concentrate, apart from him Tilda Swinton. She’s so striking and I would love to dress her. She’s incredible looking and I love that she seems so confident in herself she doesn’t feel the need to conform.”

On Her Future In Fashion: “We are researching retail and e-commerce opportunities as the moment. I rarely get chance to go out shopping, everything I do is online and I believe that will play a part of the future. Contrary to what people say I have no interest in doing a children’s line; there are lots of people doing that very well already.”

[From Daily Mail]

I totally understand why Victoria has sort of banned David from attendance at her shows thus far. Husbands (especially gorgeous ones) can be so distracting in that way, and Victoria probably also wants to prove that she can do her own thing without him by her side at all times. As far as her desire to dress Tilda, well, I don’t see that happening — mostly because I’m not crazy about Victoria’s line, which only seems tailored to fit women with her precise measurements. Overall, I find the dresses to be unflattering to the celebrities — Kate Winslet, Jessica Simpson, Eva Longoria, and Demi Moore — who’ve worn Victoria’s designs on the red carpet.

In comparison, do I think that Tilda would leave behind her usual fashion suspects and go for Victoria’s designs? Not a chance in hell.

British Fashion Awards best and worst dressed: Victoria Beckham, Alexa Chung

Last night in London, all of the fashion girls came out for the British Fashion Awards. Here’s what you need to know about the event: in the category of “British Style Award” (I’m assuming that’s for who represents British style around the world), Duchess Kate was nominated but she didn’t win. Alexa Chung won. In what world?!?! Other winners included Victoria Beckham for Best Designer Brand, Stella McCartney for “The Red Carpet Award,” Stella Tennant for Model of the Year, and Colin Firth’s wife Livia for Red Carpet Dresser of the Year. I mean… I love fashion, and I love talking about this stuff, but do we really need a ceremony in which “awards” are handed out to these people? Anyway, let’s talk fashion. First up, Victoria Beckham in one of her own designs. I actually love it. I couldn’t wear it – but it’s lovely.

Kelly Brook in a one-shouldered gown in white. Lovely. Not very fashion-forward or anything, but she’s just so pretty.

I love Colin Firth and Livia. I love that he’s with someone who has some substance and elegance. I love that they look so good together. I even love her wrinkled dress.

Alexa Chung: Bangs trauma and an eating disorder. What’s worse, the hair or the toothpick legs? Rough all around.

Kate Hudson in what I think is Stella McCartney. It’s business in the front, but there’s a party on the side…?

Look what got scraped off of the bottom of the barrel. Jesus, Kate Moss looks terrible.

Victoria Beckham dresses baby Harper Seven in $50 tights for London flight

Victoria Beckham is the recipient of “The Flynn Kerr-Bloom Effect” from me – meaning that I like a celebrity baby so much, my opinion of the celebrity baby’s parents greatly improves. I adore little Harper Seven Beckham. She is one adorable, well-dressed, well-behaved, gloriously chubby babies I’ve seen, and I like Victoria and David Beckham so much more now that they have little Harper.

Anyway, these are photos of Posh and Harp at LAX yesterday – they’re flying into London to attend tonight’s British Fashion Awards. I love how Posh isn’t carrying any luggage, or even a purse. I’m sure she has “people” for that, but not even carrying your own purse in an airport? You should always have your passport and your boarding pass close at hand, for the love of God. But Victoria knows how to put together a candid photo, and how to treat every candid photo shoot like she’s owning the catwalk.

The Mail pointed out that for the flight, Harper’s ensemble included a pair of ribbed Chloé tights, at the cost of £30 a pair (approximately $50 or so). Would you put your baby in $50 tights? Meh. So far, Harper has been clad in Stella McCartney, Bonpoint and Marie-Chantal. I want Harper to grow up to be a dirty-jeans-wearing tomboy so badly.

Anyway, I’m sure Posh will be front and center at tonight’s British Fashion Awards. Her fashion lines are doing very well, and she’s really remade herself into a modern designer, hasn’t she? In a recent interview, Posh discussed her business:

The Spice Girl told WWD: ‘There are quite a few video conferences at 5 a.m. with me in my dressing gown, holding baby. For me it’s no different than it is for a lot of women out there. It’s like juggling glass balls. I love it.’

The mother-of-four has also been busy creating an e-commerce site, which will go live next year. Victoria’s fashion label is going from strength to strength. She said: ‘Though I’m trying to take baby steps, the business is growing very quickly. Our turnover year-over-year has increased over 120 per cent. I think to anyone’s standards that’s very impressive.’

[From The Mail]

Posh has celebrity clients too – Kate Winslet wears her designs, as does Jessica Simpson and Cameron Diaz (I’m just naming these off the top of my head). But whenever I point out that a celebrity is wearing VB, most of you absolutely hate the ensemble. What does that mean? Does it mean she still has work to do?

David & Victoria Beckham might relocate from LA to Paris next year

Here are some newish photos of Victoria Beckham and little Harper, who is adorable, right? Harper is such a sweet-looking baby, and she “softens” her mom a great deal. Victoria no longer looks so miserable all the time – plus, I like the way she’s always carrying Harper around, and Harper looks like a very easy-going baby.

I’ve started to really enjoy the idea of David and Victoria Beckham as ex-patriot Brits happily living in America. Victoria has managed to build a solid clothing line, she finally got her long-awaited daughter, and she and David just seem cooler and more low-key here in America. Unfortunately, there are new reports that Becks might be signing with a French team – and the Family Beckham might be moving from LA to Paris. WTF?!?

The Beckhams have started househunting in Paris – fuelling claims that they are about to leave their Los Angeles base for a new life in France. David, 36, will line up for LA Galaxy today against Houston Dynamo in the MLS cup final, but is said to be on the verge of signing a lucrative deal with Paris Saint-Germain.

He and Victoria have also started looking at schools in the French capital for their three sons. The couple, who will return to their Hertfordshire home for Christmas, are due to announce the decision before Beckham’s five-year deal with LA Galaxy ends on December 31.

‘David is all geared up for the cup final but after that he and Victoria will make the decision over whether or not to accept the Paris deal,’ a source close to the football star says. ‘Once the last match is out of the way, talks will ensue with his management and I suspect they will move very quickly.’

David and Victoria, 37, have ruled out commuting to France from LA, and the whole family is preparing to move to Europe.

‘The deal isn’t sealed but they have made the decision that if they move, they will go as a family,’ added the source.

Fashion designer Victoria is said to be excited about the move. ‘She thinks it will help develop her brand and that Paris will open doors for her.’

The couple already own a chateau in the South of France but have instructed aides to look for an apartment in Paris.

‘David has been worried about the boys having American accents, and he and Victoria miss their families in the UK. This way they will be closer to home,’ added the source.

[From The Mail]

I’ve heard David talk about how the boys have become Americanized, but he’s never sounded “worried” about it – he just thought it was cute, I thought. Just my opinion, but it always seemed to me that David was really happy in LA, and he enjoyed that he could just be with his family without the constant drama that the British press provoked when they lived there. Now, I could see Victoria being thrilled at the idea of moving to Paris, doing the Paris shows, remaking herself into an elegant Parisian, doing covers of Vogue Paris. Do you think Posh is the one behind these rumors? Do you think David would want to stay in LA if the Galaxy offered him a great contract?

Cheryl Cole in pink Victoria Beckham: overdone or aspirational?

wenn5731889

These are some new photos of Cheryl Cole at last night’s “Pride of Britain” Awards. Cheryl wore Victoria Beckham, instantly recognizable by Posh’s visible zipper down the back. When Kate Winslet wore one of Posh’s zipper dresses, most of you hated it, but I still really like that design. I think it’s fun design detail, and it brings as much interest to the back of the dress. As for how Cheryl looks in the dress… ugh. This cotton-candy pink isn’t really her color, but she could have potentially made it work with better hair and makeup. Instead, she’s still going much, much too light with the hair and much too heavy with her makeup. Posh would not approve.

I’ve always wondered if Victoria Beckham and Cheryl Cole kind of hated each other. They’re so much alike – two WAGs, self-styled “Fashion Girls” looking to break their way into America. It seems like it could potentially be a decent English-style bitch-fight, especially since we know Cheryl can throw down with the best of them, and I suspect Posh is pretty scrappy too. But nearly a decade separates them in age – and it shows. Victoria has already accomplished so much in internationally, with the Spice Girls and with her clothing lines, and I think she loves it in America and wants to raise her kids here. Cheryl only got to stay here for a couple of months and then she was shipped back home, devastated. So, Posh would win on that count and many others. Posh is the groundbreaker, the WAG iconoclast, and now all of the little girl-banders and WAGs are trying to copy her.

Basically, I was trying to find some history of animosity between Cheryl and Victoria, and what I found surprised me. First of all, Posh has said nice things about Cheryl in interviews. Second, Cheryl has said bitchy things about Victoria’s FASHION. Oh noes. In 2009, Cheryl dismissed Victoria’s fashion collection as “for older women” and “not something Girls Aloud would wear.” Like “not something Girls Aloud would wear” is some huge insult, I know. So it’s extra funny that Cheryl is wearing something by Posh.

Speaking of, Cheryl wants to be a designer too. She recently discussed her plans to begin a shoe line, which has caused one bitchy source to tell The Mail, “Victoria has spent years trying to distance herself from the world of the WAGs that she and Cheryl inhabited when they were friends during the 2006 World Cup,’ a source told Heat magazine this week. She’s fought tooth and nail to be respected in the world of high fashion and last week she was the toast of New York’s Fashion Week. Now she feels as though Cheryl’s trying to piggy-back on all of her hard work.” In other words, Posh looked at Cheryl and said, “Bitch. Please.”

Victoria Beckham wears 7-inch platform heels, then carts baby Harper around

fp_7886636_beckham_victoria_aar_05_29

Sigh… I really like this dress. Victoria Beckham has been wearing her own designs (LOL, yeah right, “HER” designs) for all of NYFW, and this is maybe my favorite thing she’s worn. I like when she wears bright colors, but the softness of this pink, the simplicity of the cut, the utility of the pockets, the pizzazz at the back with the zipper… it’s good. On her, it’s good. It will look great on similarly built women too – slender women without much in the hips or boobs departments. Put this on a woman built like Sofia Vergara, and it looks like a fug sack. Put it on someone like Duchess Kate, and she becomes the second coming of Jackie O.

Anyway, since you guys have been enjoying all of the Vicky photos this week, I thought I’d give you these. Victoria, once again traipsing all over NYC in seven-inch heels, carrying her nine-week-old baby. The heels are identified as “Christian Loboutin Daffodil 160 platform pumps” – standard-issue six-and-a-half-inch platform heel.

Apparently, Victoria took Harper Seven to FAO Schwartz yesterday. I wonder why? Because Victoria already said that Harper was in heaven in the Prada store – surely, a little fashionista baby would find FAO Schwartz to be exhausting and peasanty? The Mail theorized that Posh was picking up gifts for the boys, though, probably because the boys didn’t come with mom for NYFW. Sigh… that will poor little Harper’s yearly duty from now on. You know Posh and Harp are totally going to end up like Eddie and Saffy from Absolutely Fabulous.

Victoria Beckham says that baby Harper “loved” going into the Prada store

66380pcn_beckham301

Victoria Beckham speaks! It’s been happening with more frequency since she came to America, and now we have a plethora of new Victoria quotes, all from NYFW where Posh debuted her Fall/Winter VB line on September 11th. I think Victoria met with some influential publications and style people to promote her line, and I think she did all of the interviews with baby Harper Seven in her lap or in her arms. While wearing stilettos. Of course. I honestly don’t think there’s a quote in here that didn’t make me giddy:

Posh on how she’s perceived: “I’m not just that miserable cow, you know,” announced Victoria Beckham to a room of somewhat startled fashion editors, all perched primly on white sofas in a large Manhattan loft, as they awaited her latest fashion show. “And here, this dress?” continued Beckham as one model walked out. “It looks like a giant Fabergé egg, doesn’t it? And this is our moon print. Which is great.”

Victoria on taking her daughter to Prada: “We went in to Prada yesterday and she loved it. It was if she was saying, ‘Mummy I’m home!’”

On Harper’s first Fashion Week: “I can’t leave her alone for a minute, I haven’t been without her since she was born nine weeks ago, she’s too wonderful to leave.”

Posh on ‘Victoria by Victoria Beckham’, her off-shoot, cheaper brand: “This has been a real labour of love for me and we have been working on it for around a year. I wanted something that was a little bit more affordable but I did not want to compromise with design or quality. It’s not a second line, or a diffusion line – it’s another line, another side to my wardrobe. This is a way to give my customers what they want.”

On the shift in color palette: The emphasis was on loose, crepe, satin, jacquard and something called “summer wool” shifts that barely skimmed the body, some in rich colours such as Kelly green and deep blue, and some spattered with sweet cartoonish prints, a look heretofore verboten in the Beckham wardrobe. “I’m very into conversational prints this season,” Beckham said, wearing one of the cat print dresses herself.

Posh‘s sidenote about cats: “I want a cat but David won’t let me have one – he doesn’t want them bringing mice in the house. He’s a dog person,” she revealed.

Heels versus flats: Picking out a lovely black shift with scalloping around the neckline, she said: “I love this dress, I could wear this one with flats during the day and heels at night.”. It was a nice try on her part, but her claim to flats-wearing normality was slightly undermined by the fact that she was, at that moment, wearing gigantic stilettos while cuddling her nine-week-daughter, Harper.

Posh is self-obsessed: One of the last dresses was a simple white one which was downright Jackie O-like. Chic, simple and tasteful. “And you see the neckline? There’s a little V,” said Beckham, indicating a tiny dip in the centre. “It’s subtle branding.”

[From The Mail and The Guardian]

The part about Posh wanting a cat confused the hell out of me. What does she mean, “he doesn’t want them bringing mice in the house”? Does she mean that David thinks cats will bring live mice into the house? Because that doesn’t happen. I’ve had a lot of cats in my life, and if you’re lucky enough to get a cat with a great hunting instinct, they’ll go outside and catch things, kill the things or leave them pretty close to dead, and then they’ll leave their kills outside of the door, like they’re giving you a present. It’s not like cats go outside, catch a live mouse, gently carry the mouse into the house and let it go. That has never happened to any cat-owner I’ve ever known. But if cats do catch something, they want you to see their kill and be proud of them.

Sigh… I miss having cats.

Victoria Beckham takes baby Harper to NY Fashion Week, in stilettos

fp_7865125_beckhamvictoria_baby_aar_05_14

Victoria Beckham is making sure that her baby girl’s first NY Fashion Week is all that she could ever dream of. Yeah, I don’t know what that means either. Little Harper Seven is being carted around endlessly in New York, always in her mother’s arms, even though her mother’s arms look much too tiny to really support that much weight (maybe 15 pounds?). These are photos from the weekend – the rare photos of Victoria and a blanket-clad Harper are from Saturday, and the ones of Victoria in pink and black are from yesterday.

A lot of you judge Victoria for two things in particular: wearing giant heels when she holding baby Harper in her arms, without some kind of baby carrier, and you judge her for not wrapping Harper up in a blanket. The concern troll in me is more worried about the stilettos, honestly. But I’m projecting – I would be busting my ass in those heels, and I would be dropping whatever I was holding. As for the blanket thing – well, I don’t know. I think Harper is only being exposed to the elements for maybe a few minutes at a time, but for the most part, Harper is in temperature-controlled environments, indoors or in cars. Do you really need to wrap a baby in a blanket just for the trip from building to car?

By the way, the pink and black dress is Victoria’s own design. Isn’t it hideous? It’s like a really ugly vintage shift from the Twiggy era. Victoria’s show was yesterday morning too – they had to pause the show for the 9/11 remembrances. That made some people uncomfortable, but some people still loved her new collection. I glanced through the pics – it’s a lot of Mod, 1960s-inspired stuff. Meh.

Victoria Beckham is dieting & working with Tracy Anderson to get back to size 0

fp_7234757_barm_westminsterabbey_rw_37_44

Victoria Beckham (seen above while she was seven months pregnant at Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding) is reportedly horrified that she gained twenty-one pounds while pregnant with her latest child, daughter Harper Seven, who was born one month ago. That’s right — a whole twenty-one pounds — and Victoria is so desperate to shed the lingering unwanted weight that she’s gone into hiding until, magically, she’s able to emerge at her pre-pregnancy weight. Of course, it’ll take lots of exercise and very little eating to accomplish this goal, so Victoria has embarked on some crazy plan called the Five Hands diet:

How the super strict Five Hands diet is helping Victoria Beckham shed post-pregnancy pounds in time for Fashion Week

You’d think after having four children any hopes of having a flat tummy would be over – but one woman is determined to prove otherwise.

After giving birth to Harper Seven last month and gaining 1st 7lb, Victoria Beckham has gone into hiding in a bid to get back to a svelte size zero.

While Mr Beckham has been spotted almost daily with the rest of the brood, it is claimed 37-year-old Victoria has been cooped up in a rented seven-bedroom Malibu mansion getting her body back to pre-pregnancy glory.

According to Grazia, the former Spice Girl has been following the new ‘Five Hands’ diet to taper her figure in time for a grand unveiling at New York Fashion Week from September 8-15.

With a matter of weeks to go before she makes her return to the spotlight, Victoria has reportedly been sticking to the strict regime which consists of just five handfuls of food a day.

A source told the magazine that she has cut out sugar and has been snacking on miniscule portions of smoked salmon, prawns with chilli, yellow-fin tuna sushi and scrambled eggs.

‘Five days after giving birth, she started eating five high-protein meals a day accompanied by green vegetables, drinking gallons of water, and only snacking on goji berries and nuts.’

To complement her new eating plan Victoria has also been doing gentle exercise at the £93,000-a-month beach rental owned by Stephen Spielberg, as doctors have warned against any vigorous exercise for at least eight weeks following her caesarean.

“Victoria’s been doing gentle post-natal exercises and 10 minutes of Pilates.

“In a few weeks’ time she’ll pick up her normal gym routine again and start training with Tracy Anderson,” the source added.

This isn’t the first time that the fashion designer – who will be shortly be exhibiting the spring 2012 collection of her eponymous label in New York – has fought to shed her pregnancy pounds.

Following the birth of her three sons Brooklyn, 12, Romeo, eight, and Cruz, six, Victoria used a combination of Pilates and algae wraps – which reportedly shed 2-3lb a session – to regain her slender appearance.

Images of her after the birth of her first son Brooklyn, in 1999 sparked concern over her rapid weight loss. At the time, she said: “I had become Skeletal Spice. What upset me was I ate like any normal person… I wasn’t happy with how I looked.”

[From Daily Mail]

It’s really amazing that Victoria has historically insisted that she eats just like everyone else does when we know damn well what she used to look like before all of the restrictive dieting practices kicked into play. Basically, we know she’s full of crap where her weight is concerned, but whatever. Also, the fact that she’s hired Tracy Anderson tells us that Victoria isn’t interested at all in being healthy but only shedding the weight as quickly as possible. All for the sake of fashion week, really? One would imagine that having four children would help her recognize better priorities in life, but no. So get ready to see Victoria looking just like she did in 2010…
