Eminem talks about misogyny & homophobia with Anderson Cooper

LOS ANGELES, CA - SEPTEMBER 12: (NO ARCHIVES/EDITORIAL USE ONLY) Rapper Eminem performs onstage during the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards at NOKIA Theatre L.A. LIVE on September 12, 2010 in Los Angeles, California. (Photo by Kevin Winter/Getty Images)

I’m sad to say that I missed Anderson Cooper’s interview with Eminem last night on 60 Minutes. First of all – Eminem, clean and sober and thoughtful, on 60 Minutes is kind of awesome. I’ve said this before, but I’ve really begun to respect Eminem lately. His interviews to promote his latest album have shown how interesting and intelligent he is, and how he really does have a maturing and increasingly inclusive world-view. In his New York Times profile, Eminem even came out in support of gay marriage, and he’s given a lot of credit to Elton John for Elton’s help and support in getting clean. At about 8:30 mark on the video below, Anderson challenges Eminem on his lyrics, his language, especially regarding violence, misogyny and homophobia. Eminem lets the word “f-ggot” fly (in front of Anderson!).

On last night’s “60 Minutes,” rapper Eminem had an unlikely interviewer: Anderson Cooper. Basically, the hip-hop star repeated the life story that most people learned (in fictionalized form) by watching “8 Mile” in 2002. Cooper did ask Eminem about his use of anti-gay slurs in his lyrics.

Cooper asked Eminem, who has often been branded a homophobe, why he uses words like “lez” and “f*g” in his lyrics, but seemed to accept this answer: “The scene that I came up in, that word was thrown around so much, you know? F****t was, like, it was thrown around constantly, to each other, like in battling, you know what I mean?”

“But, I mean, do you not like gay people?” Cooper asked.

“No I don’t have any problem with nobody, you know what I mean. Like, I’m just whatever,” Eminem replied.

The rapper also said he doesn’t use profanity “around my house, no. But this is music, this is my art, this is what I do.” And as for the people criticizing his lyrics, he feels he’s “singled out,” he says. Other rappers “do and say the same things that I’m saying. And I don’t hear no one saying anything about that. I didn’t just invent saying offensive things.”

[From Newser & WSJ]

Well… Eminem didn’t really answer the question the best way, honestly. Would I like Em to actually apologize for some of the language he’s used in the past? Sure. But I do understand what he’s basically trying to say – that he was going through a process, that those are the words he heard around him, that he is an artist who is still growing. I’m not defending the use of those words, just that I understand what a journey Em has been through, and how far he’s come.

Eminem wants to be The Riddler in Christopher Nolan’s third Batman film

The rumors surrounding Christopher Nolan’s third Batman film have been incessant ever since The Dark Knight came out and blew everybody away. At various times, it seems like the next “villain” would be Catwoman, and the casting for that was extremely messy. But then the rumors swung over to the idea that the new villain would be The Riddler. Nolan’s association with (Heath Ledger-esque) Joseph Gordon-Levitt on Inception seemed to lead people to think that Nolan was considering JGL for a role. This may be true – it’s one of the most recent rumors, and I think it might have the most weight. But, according to The National Enquirer, JGL isn’t a shoo-in by any measure. Apparently, Nolan is looking at both JGL and Johnny Depp, and now Eminem wants a screen test for the role as well:

After seven weeks of topping the charts with his “Recovery” album, almighty-whitey rapper EMINEM – itching to dominate movie screens again and repeat the critical kudos he won with biopic “8 Mile” – rapped to his reps: “When it comes to business, you know I ain’t no fiddler…You tell them Batman biggies, I wanna play ‘The Riddler!’”

Will Eminem nail a big-screen comeback deal – or get a screen test, at least?

Producers are piqued at the prospect of a Rappin’ Riddler, but Slim Shady’s facing stiff competition – execs are also confab-ing with JOHNNY DEPP and red-hot “Inception” star JOSEPH GORDON-LEVITT. Stay tuned.

[From The National Enquirer]

Eminem has dressed up in strange superhero costumes in his videos a few times – does that count as a screen test? Probably not. Judging from Nolan’s previous work, The Riddler will not be some cartoony jokester in a bright spandex onesie. He’ll probably some cold, murderous psychotic who likes horrible, terrible riddles involving body parts and chainsaws. Can Eminem go that dark? Sure. And Em is very popular, and I can see why it might be a good story, you know? But I doubt the veracity of it. First of all, Em seems very focused on his sobriety right now, and he seems super-cautious of taking on any project that might instigate a relapse. Considering the last dude who played a villain for Christopher Nolan is now dead, Em might not want the role. Secondly, I think JGL has it in the bag. Truly.

Rihanna is growing out her mushroom cap hair into a shaggy bob

rihanna_red_hair_5_wenn2957914

Back in June, Rihanna debuted a new hair style – a very, very short, half-shaved mushroom-cap cut, dyed bright red. It was pretty hideous, in my opinion. I do think Rihanna is a pretty girl too – she can pull off certain looks that are downright ugly on other people. But this hair style was just terrible. Anyway, I was looking at these new photos of Rihanna in NYC yesterday, and it looks like she’s keeping the electric red color, but she’s growing out the “mushroom cap” effect. It’s not a kind of shaggy bob, which I think looks great on her, although it sort of looks like the same style as The Bieb’s. Thoughts?

In other Rihanna news, people are still talking about the video she and Eminem did for their single “Love The Way You Lie” starring Dominic Monighan and “video girl” Megan Fox. While doing press for his new film role, Chris Brown notably refused to answer questions about the song and video (and content). Which was a wise decision, honestly. Also: Eminem’s grandma wants him to date Rihanna. Ha!

Eminem’s grandma Betty has said her grandson would be the perfect boyfriend for singer Rihanna. The US rapper has teamed up with Rihanna, 22, for their new single Love The Way You Lie.

Betty recently admitted that she would love to see the two of them hook up.

She said to Britain’s Heat magazine: ‘I can totally see what any girl [including Rihanna] would see in him. He’s so charming; he has always had adorable, beautiful blue eyes and this charming, wonderful smile.’

Betty added that she thinks the Rude Boy singer would be a great match for her grandson.

She said: ‘Rihanna would make a suitable partner for Marshall. But he needs to enjoy life and not get carried away with any relationships at the moment.’

[From Monsters & Critics]

Aw, they would be kind of cute together I think. I wonder if Em listens to his grandma?

Megan Fox & Dominic Monaghan glamorize violence in Eminem’s new video

11 March 2010 - Beverly Hills,California - Dominic Monaghan. 27th Annual Paley Fest - FlashForward held at the Saban Theatre. Photo Credit: T. Conrad/AdMedia

Would you have thought to put Megan Fox and Dominic Monighan together for a music video? I wouldn’t have. Megan Fox, maybe – she has “video girl” written all over her, and that really should have the height of her career, honestly. But, considering she was once the hottest thing in Hollywood, starring in a music video seems like it should be a step down, even if the video is for an Eminem and Rihanna song that will likely be one of the biggest hits of the year. As far as Dominic – well, I love him. He’s a cheeky bugger, and I don’t buy him as an abusive bastard.

Yeah – that’s the whole thing about this video. It’s about an abusive couple. I mean, I guess Dominic isn’t the only one doing the beating…? Megan gets some punches in there too, and they make like it’s sexy to be abusive…?

A couple of things: Megan Fox seems like the one consistently starting the abuse, right? And it has the potential to be disturbing, only Megan is such a terrible actress, and I can’t even buy it. Dominic is good though. Also: the CGI flames are really budget. Meh.

So people are already complaining about the glamorization of domestic violence (and not to mention arson, right?). EW calls the video dramatic and sexy, but still acknowledges that this is maybe not the best way to deal with this subject. I have to admit – Dominic is acting his ass off, right? He’s kind of wonderful in this video.

Eminem talks about dying, and being “close” to Brittany Murphy

vibe

Back in June, I covered an interview Eminem did with the New York Times. The interview was really good, and really interesting, mostly because Eminem sounded sober, grounded, mature and… well, grown-up. Since I read that piece, I’ve caught bits and pieces of his interviews, and he does seem consistently nicer now. Not like he’s lost his edge – just that he doesn’t really care about how he comes across at this point, and he’s just focused on being honest with himself and with his fans. Anyway, Em and Dre are the cover boys for the August/September issue of Vibe, and Em gives some more interesting quotes. He even talks about his 8 Mile costar Brittany Murphy:

Do you think about your own death?
Yeah, I do. A lot. I think about it a lot. I try not to think about it but I do and it creeps me the f-ck out. It creeps me out because they say that if I got to the hospital two hours later then I would be gone. I think about that a lot. When I lay in bed at night is when I think about it the most. It creeps me out man.

THE BEST EMINEM DISS TRACK ACCORDING TO EM/ What was the best thing someone said about you? Was there ever a hot Eminem diss?
Um, no. [Laughs.] Nah, I’m kidding. Sh-t, there was a couple of lines Everlast said like, “You ain’t running up on me with no empty gun.” I know that there is a lot of sh-t that I would have said about me.

ON BRITTANY MURPHY’S PASSING: What were your thoughts when you heard that your 8 Mile co-star Brittany Murphy had passed?
It was crazy. It’s crazy. It’s crazy because at one point we were very close and she was a really good person. It’s crazy when you see things not just with her but just all these things that are happening in Hollywood with people in music, with people in acting . . .

. . . famous people.
Famous people. Famous people are overdosing at alarming rates and—that almost sounded like a commercial. Wow.

It sounded like a Sally Struthers commercial. “Please give to this charity.”
Right. But they are. And it’s one of those things man where you’re famous, doctors will kiss your ass because they love the celebrity. “Oh, I can call up Eminem and get him on the phone right now. Oh, hi Marshall, how are you doing? Do you need that [prescription]?” There are doctors that will give you certain things just because of who you are.

[From Vibe]

That’s sad what he says about doctors. Who wants to bet that Em probably has some hardcore thoughts about what Lindsay Lohan is going through? I bet they’re not all nasty either, I bet he really relates to her. But the difference between what Lindsay went through and what Em went through… well, there are a lot of differences, but I think one of the main things is that Em got straight for his kids, and for his fans. He wanted to be better for other people. Lindsay just uses other people’s well-wishes to enable her habit. Plus, who is she going to get sober for? Ali? Ali worships her, sober or cracked-out.

Eminem supports gay marriage: “What the hell?”

fp_5112611_icon_eminem_053110

At first I was going to snark about how Eminem seems kind of boring now that he’s sober, and then I was going to joke about his friendship with Elton John. But now that I’ve read Eminem’s full interview in the New York Times, I just can’t. He sounds… nice. Humbled. Authentic. Real. The interviewer just asks him a series of questions that aren’t necessarily hard-hitting, but still personal, and Eminim could have easily obfuscated and denied, but he just answers everything methodically, almost as if he doesn’t really care how he sounds. He’s cool with gay marriage, and he says that his misogynistic lyrics were what he “was feeling at the time.” He also claims to have never read poetry and that he’s not “book-smart.” He seems pretty smart to me:

On your new album, “Recovery,” which comes out on Monday, you assume a confessional tone and back off from the misogyny and demented violence you pushed in your earlier work. Would you agree?
I think I’d have to go back and listen to it. Did I?

Does Slim Shady, your raping and killing alter ego, still exist? Or have you split with him?
Shady still exists. But I don’t think the subjects on this record call for, you know, bring the chainsaws and axes out and murder everyone on this record. There was so much stuff like that off the last record that I felt like I was starting to run it into the ground. I think consciously I went in a different direction with this record.

Do you regret having written so many songs that refer to women as “bitches” and “hos” who exist solely for your pleasure?
Anything I’ve ever said, I certainly was feeling at the time. But I think I’ve calmed down a bit. My overall look on things is a lot more mature than it used to be.

Even your mother sued you for defamation. Is she still in Detroit, where she raised you as a single mom?
I’m not sure, to be honest. It’d be very hard to repair that relationship.

You’ve been accused of writing gay-bashing lyrics in the past. Would you like to see gay marriage approved in Michigan, where you live?
I think if two people love each other, then what the hell? I think that everyone should have the chance to be equally miserable, if they want.

Is this the new, 37-year-old tolerant you?
It’s the new tolerant me!

Compared with other rappers, you are often praised for your complex rhyme schemes. Do you read poetry?
I don’t think I’ve ever read poetry, ever. I’m not really book-smart.

What does the title of your album refer to? What exactly are you recovering from?
Vicodin, Valium and Ambien, and toward the end, which caused my overdose, methadone. I didn’t know it was methadone. I used to get pills wherever I could.I was just taking anything that anybody was giving to me.

Where did you go to rehab?
The first time I went it was in Brighton, Mich. The second time I didn’t go to rehab. I just went to a regular hospital. I detoxed in the hospital, and then I came home. I couldn’t go back to rehab. I felt like I was Bugs Bunny in rehab.

What does that mean?
When Bugs Bunny walks into rehab, people are going to turn and look. People at rehab were stealing my hats and pens and notebooks and asking for autographs. I couldn’t concentrate on my problem.

Billboard magazine has ranked you as the best-selling artist of the past decade. What do you do with all your money?
Save it. I save a lot of money by not buying drugs anymore. I invest. I always try to be smart. I try to treat all the money I’m making like it’s the last time I’m going to make it.

Do you think rap has peaked creatively?
No. Hip-hop right now — there are certain artists who put hip-hop in a good state. There are a lot of talented people, and there’s a lot of young talent coming up, like B.o.B, Jay Electronica, Lupe Fiasco and Drake.

Why haven’t you planned any kind of big tour for your new album, other than two concerts with Jay-Z in September?
Touring is hard on the body.It used to be a big trigger for me with drinking and drugging.

How do you stay sober?
My kids, and also I see a rehab counselor once a week. I’ve been clean for two years.

Happy Father’s Day, by the way. As a divorced father of three daughters, are you a good dad?
Yes.My kids — I love them so much, and they’ve helped me through so many things.

I wonder what they’ll think of your rousing new song, “W.T.P.,” which stands for a white-trash party. You tell the listener, “Hop in my minivan/let’s get rowdy.” Just going back to my white-trash roots.

[From The New York Times]

Is anyone else surprised that he knows himself and his demons well enough to be scared that he might fall back into the same drug-abusing cycle on tour? I think that’s very smart of him, and if he’s still worried that he might relapse, why tour? Does he need the money? I doubt it. I bet the shows with Jay-Z will be good though.

CB pointed out this interview Em did with CNN – they got him to talk even more about his drug addiction and his overdose: “I was certainly a couple of hours away from death…[I] overdosed and almost died…I had to admit I had a problem. I had to do it for myself.” The full piece is here.

Is Elton John helping Eminem with his sobriety?
43rd Annual Grammy Awards - Show

Several weeks ago, Eminem’s interview with Complex Magazine was published, and it caused a minor tabloid ripple. Eminem compared his years-long prescription drug addiction to Michael Jackson’s addictions, and spoke frankly about how he used to take more than 20 pills a day (Valium, Ambien and Vicodin), and how he felt “plastic”. But, Eminem also claimed that he’d been clean for 18 months, and that that at first, his drug addiction transformed itself into an exercise addiction, which Eminem admitted he had to keep in check. All in all, it was a series of startling admissions, and many applauded Eminem for his honesty.

In another interview, Eminen admitted that when he began to realize he had a problem, he contacted Elton John. Eminem said: “He had a substance-abuse problem in the past. So when I first wanted to get sober, I called him, because he’s somebody in the business who can relate to the lifestyle and how hectic things can be. He understands the pressure and any other reasons that you wanna come up with for doing drugs.” Now Elton John is coming forward with a new admission about Eminem’s drug problems – it seems Elton has been “helping” Eminem for months, and that Elton feels that Eminem is doing “brilliantly”.

Elton John says he’s been helping Eminem kick drugs.

“I’ve been helping Eminem over the last 18 months and he’s doing brilliantly,” John told BBC radio.

John didn’t discuss any details, but in 2005 Eminem entered rehab for addiction to sleeping pills and then took a three-year hiatus.

“It’s no secret I had a drug problem,” he later told Vibe magazine. “If I was to give you a number of Vicodin I would actually take in a day? Anywhere between 10 to 20. Valium, Ambien, the numbers got so high I don’t even know what I was taking.”

He also nearly overdosed on methadone, a heroin substitute.

Elton John also battled drugs and booze throughout his career but says he has been sober since the ’80s.

The “Rocket Man” singer has counseled other celebrity addicts, including the late Michael Jackson, but says he doesn’t force his advice on anyone.

“I’m there if people want my help,” he said in the BBC interview that aired yesterday. “If people ask for help you tell them where to go but there’s no point advising people if they don’t want to do it.”

[From The New York Daily News]

Part of me thinks this story is rather sweet. Eminem got a lot of criticism for his perceived (or actual) homophobia, but he dealt with the criticism in an interesting way – by performing and publicly embracing Elton John at the 2001 Grammys. While it was a smart PR move at the time, it’s interesting to think that Elton and Eminem might have a genuine friendship that has lasted all these years. I find that part of it touching. The other part me is reminded of what George Michael said about Elton John’s efforts to get him sober (“He will not be happy until I bang on his door in the middle of the night saying, ‘Please, please, help me, Elton. Take me to rehab.’ It’s not going to happen.”), and I chuckle.

Eminem compares his drug problem to Michael Jackson

Days after being humiliated at the MTV Movie Awards, a sultry Eminem hangs out with Travis Barker in Beverly Hills
I like Eminem’s brand of pop-rap, but ever since the guy emerged from his three year self-imposed hiatus there’s been something off about him. He seems to be really angry and resentful, and there was that whole feud with Mariah Carey and her new husband that he refused to let go. Eminem is sober now after a long battle with prescription drug addiction that seems to have been propelled by the death of his best friend, the rapper Proof, in 2006. He spoke to XXL magazine earlier this year about his struggle, and said that he was taking up to 20 Valium, Ambien and Vicodin a day.

In a new interview with Complex Magazine, Eminem is asked if he sees any parallels between his own prescription drug addiction and Michael Jackson’s. He says that he sees the parallels “100 percent” and adds that he had a lot of enablers around him that helped him get whatever he wanted. Eminem has been sober for 18 months now, and he’s lost the weight he gained overeating during his addiction:

So you feel better?
Eminem: [Laughs.] Hell yeah, I feel better. I feel like a human being again. There was one point in time where I felt like…[Sighs.] I don’t know—I felt like plastic.
In what way?
Eminem: I think I looked plastic. My face, fat plastic. [Laughs.] I was eating, but the Vicodin made me hungry because it eats up your stomach lining, so you want to fill your stomach back up, but then it stops you up so you can’t shit, you just—

Jesus.
Eminem: That’s why I was gaining so much weight, I was just so f’ing bloated. It’s a trip when people take sobriety for granted. Feeling trapped in my addiction and then getting sober—you appreciate it so much more, because I didn’t know if I would ever know what it’s like to feel normal again, ever.
Are there moments when you feel like you’re being tested?
Eminem: Not with drugs or alcohol or anything like that. I just steer clear of it.

So you’re stone-sober these days?
Eminem: Yeah, it’ll be 18 months on the 20th [of October]. I realized I can’t touch anything, and that’s why I’m clean right now and why I’m going to stay clean. My brain just doesn’t know when to shut off. When I do something I have to do it all the way—that goes for music, with a high-hat, a snare drum, a rhyme, everything. I have to push it to the extreme. That’s how I realized I have addictive behavior. Somebody told me this once, that the thing that makes me bad is the same thing that makes me good at other things.

When the details of Michael Jackson’s death came to light, did you see any parallels?
Eminem: Oh, 100 percent. When you read things about Michael Jackson it’s hard to decipher what the f*ck is true, but there’s the story of how he woke up at whatever time and he needed something to go back to sleep because he had this or that and it didn’t work. That’s exactly what used to happen to me: I would take a couple of pills and I would be up an hour later and I’d want more. Then I’d take more and that would be enough to maybe get me back to sleep for two more hours. Then I’d be wide awake again. So I definitely can relate, and it’s a shame if he didn’t have anybody there to just say, “Michael, you’re an addict, you need help.” It’s one of the pitfalls of fame. I could just say, “Yo, I need this and this and this,” and they’re going to give me whatever I want because—

—because you’re Eminem.
Eminem: Exactly, it’s f*cked up. The worst thing that could have happened to me as an addict was having money.

[From Complex via MTV]

Eminem goes on to explain that he became addicted to running after he got sober and was running as much as 19 miles a day. He saw an episode of Obsessed on MTV featuring a guy who went to the gym three times a day and that helped him cut down his exercise. “There was a point in time when I had to burn 1,000 calories; if I didn’t burn 1,000 calories my day wasn’t complete. But now it’s like I can burn 275 calories and jump off the treadmill, or I can burn 550, and I’m OK with it.”

As for new technology and the Internet, Eminem says he has no clue and barely gets online. “I don’t even know how to turn a computer on and it’s probably better that way.” He says his favorite video game is old school arcade style Donkey Kong. Eminem is much more up to date with the media. He loves the HBO shows The Wire and Entourage and says Superbad is his favorite movie. He claims to have watched it 200 times.

Eminem is now working on his next album, Relapse 2, which he claims will be a more solid album and less pop-oriented. “Making Relapse, I was still working the drugs out of my system, so there was a lot of…just jokey sh*t. It was a lot of punchline-y, funny, shock value—kind of going back to The Slim Shady LP. And that was cool, but I’ve kind of flipped the page. Now I’m going for songs instead of one-liners. I don’t want to make sh*t that you hear once and then the joke’s over; I want to make records that you could play a hundred times, a thousand times.”

He also says he’s not dating anyone right now and that “I just came out of a long relationship, so I’m just kind of coasting right now.” The guy may not have worked out all of his demons, but he seems to have conquered the major ones. It’s probably for the best that he avoids relationships for a while. Judging from his music, women are more of an issue for him than anything else.

Eminem threatens to release nude pics of Mariah Carey (update: song)

eminem 120509
The epic musically expressed feud between Eminem and his maybe ex-hookup, Mariah Carey, will never die – at least until Eminem finds another ex to fixate on for years. Here’s some quick background – Mariah and Eminem supposedly hooked up way back in late 2002, which Mariah denies, saying they were just friends. Each of them is thought to have referenced the relationship in several songs, with Eminem mentioning Mariah by name occasionally and Mariah just referring to some tool who’s obsessed with her. (Here’s some background on their back and forth, and it’s by no means complete.)

The last we heard in this saga, Mariah’s husband Nick Cannon was calling Eminem racist for lyrics dissing his wife on his latest album, and Mariah was calling Eminem “delusional,” “lying,” and “so so lame” in the song Obsessed from her upcoming album. She possibly even mocking Eminem in the video, in which she cross dresses and dons a goatee and hoodie. (Mariah never names Eminem, but it’s pretty clear who she’s singing about.)

Never one to let an old dusty feud go, Eminem tries to threaten Mariah in his latest rap, saying he has plenty of evidence that they indeed had a relationship and that he’ll release phone messages and photos. (By the way, the source article is wrong that the feud just began “earlier this year.” It goes way back to at least late 2002. Mariah’s song “Clown” on the album “Charmbracelet” is thought to be about Eminem, and Em’s 2003 song “Superman” is thought to reference her.)

Eminem and Mariah Carey are at it again.

On Thursday, the rapper debuted a new song, “The Warning,” slamming his ex and going into full detail about a sexual encounter they once had.

“Only reason I dissed you in the first place is because you denied seeing me. Now I’m pissed off,” he says before he starts his rap.

“You wanna hear something wick wack?/ I got the same exact tattoo that’s on Nick’s back,” he says, referring to Carey’s husband Nick Cannon.

Eminem also blasts Carey for mocking him in her latest music video, “Obsessed.”

“Oh gee, is that supposed to be me in the video with the goatee?/ Wow Mariah, didn’t expect ya to go b—s out./ B—h, shut the f— up before I put all those phone calls out/ When you was wilding out/ Before Nick, when you was on my di–,” he raps.

He then threatens to reveal personal pictures he has of the Carey. “Mariah, it ever occur to you that I still have pictures?” he asks.

The feud between the two began earlier this year after Eminem namedropped Carey in the track “Bagpipes From Baghdad” from his latest album Relapse. “Mariah whatever happened to us / Why did we ever have to break-up?” he rapped. “Nick Cannon, you better back the f— up. I’m not playing, I want her back, you punk.”

Eminem, if that sh*t really happened it was over six years ago. Move the f on already. He’s obviously pissed off about Mariah’s song “Obsessed,” but he also knows that keeping this stupid thing going will get him headlines. It’s working and we’re talking about him. I like Eminem’s music and think the guy is talented, but he really has some deep-seated issues, especially with women, and needs to grow up. At least he quit doing drugs.

Update: Here’s the song. It has f-bombs and is NSFW. It’s way worse than I thought. Eminem says he was with Mariah for six months, calls her an alcoholic, and says he only had sex with her once. He also talked about uh, losing his business on her stomach at one point. This guy has no shame.

And here’s Mariah’s “Obsessed”

Eminem confirms that the Bruno MTV stunt was staged & he was acting

The ever charming rapper Eminem flashes hello to photographers as he leave BBC radio studios in London
Eminem has granted a interview to Rap Radar in which he clears up the rumors about the much talked about Bruno stunt at the MTV Movie Awards on Sunday. The whole thing was rehearsed and Eminem says he knew about it ahead of time, thought it was funny, and wasn’t offended. He claims to have returned to his hotel room afterwards and to have “laughed for 3 hours.” As for the story that $60k worth of stuff was robbed from his hotel room that very night, he says that’s not true at all and he just lost a watch:

RR: Can you clear up the Bruno stunt at the MTV Awards? Was it staged or planned?
Eminem: Sacha called me when we were in Europe and he had an idea to do something outrageous at the Movie Awards. I’m a big fan of his work so I agreed to get involved with the gag.

If it wasn’t planned the way you agreed to, do you hold MTV or Sacha responsible and will you take any kind of action?
I’m thrilled that we pulled this off better than we rehearsed it. It had so many people going “nuts” so to speak. Everyone was blowing me up about it.

After you left the ceremony, where did you go?
After the ceremony I went back to my hotel and laughed uncontrollably for about 3 hours. Especially after I saw it on air.

There is a rumor that you hotel room was robbed and theives got 60K and your laptop while you were at ceremony. Is that true and if so what would someone find on your computer?
The only thing was that I lost a Nike watch that we were looking for. The rest it is made-up like half the other stuff out there.

How do you think the show with Jay went and how did it feel performing “Renegade” again?
I love performing with Jay. Its the third time we’ve done the song together live and its always fun. It was an honor to share the stage with him again and to work with his band.

A few of you pointed out that Eminem can act. I enjoyed 8 Mile and found him pretty convincing. He was playing himself, but I guess he was also doing that here and just acting offended. I’m still not completely buying it, but maybe we’ll never know if it was a prank gone too far or if he was punking us. This is the guy who name dropped a bunch of celebrities and their scandals in his comeback single. He knows how to get us to talk about him and it’s working like a charm.
