Evangeline Lilly: Angelina Jolie is ‘a complete ice queen’

lilly7
There’s more stuff from Evangeline Lilly’s cover interview with Women’s Health Magazine. I have no idea why this interview is coming out in drips and drabs, and they don’t have the any of the interview up on the Women’s Health site - but they do have one of the prettiest photo montages of Evangeline I’ve ever seen.

On Tuesday, we reported on the little snippet of interview Page Six got a hold of. Evangeline claimed that producers were always disappointed that she didn’t want to become the next Angelina Jolie. Some thought “Oh no she didn’t just compare herself to La Jolie” while I kind of thought Evangeline was using Jolie’s name as a way to say “I don’t want to be a big movie star.” It was open to interpretation, but now we’re getting a bit more context. In the same interview, Evangeline also refers to Angelina as an “ice queen” but says that she loves Angelina for it. What now?

Evangeline Lilly thinks Angelina Jolie is in “ice queen” — but insists it’s not a bad thing.

The Lost actress tells Women’s Health Magazine for its June issue that she admires the Changeling star, but wouldn’t want to be as famous as Jolie.

“No one knows that woman; she’s a complete ice queen, which is perfect,” Lilly said. “Why should she be any more? She doesn’t owe us anything.”

“Sure, I’d love to be her, but just the [humanitarian] side,” she added.

Evangeline is also bored of rumors that she’s dating former costar Dominic Monaghan.

“If I were to tell you that Sandra Miggum and Henry Pickett are dating, would you ever care? They’re completely fictional, so you don’t know them,” she says. “Well, people don’t know us. So why should they care?”

“Right now, I’m happy doing a job that’s not my ultimate dream,” she adds. “Even if you’re unhappy, just pretend that you’re happy.”

“Eventually, your smile will be contagious to yourself. I had to learn that — I used to think, ‘I’m being fake,’ but you know what? Better to be fake and happy than real and miserable.”

[From Showbiz Spy]

I don’t really think Angelina comes across as an ice queen, but I’ve never thought she was particularly smug either, and I know many, many people think that of her. Different strokes, different interpretations of behavior. Personally, I prefer Angelina’s cut-a-bitch stare to the neediness and desperation of so many starlets. Perhaps Evangeline’s “ice queen” comment is about how Angelina doesn’t seem to let the never-ending tabloid cycle get to her. Who knows.

Here’s what’s really bothering about Evangeline, though. It’s all of the complaining. Like someone forced her to dress up in great clothes, photographed her beautifully and held a gun to her head as she was being interviewed. If she doesn’t want to be a celebrity or an actress, fine. Quit Lost (please) and move away and do your missionary work. Problem solved. But don’t whine about it like it’s out of your control.

Evangeline Lilly frustrates producers b/c she could be ‘next Angelina Jolie’

wenn5297352
There’s no love lost between me and Evangeline Lilly’s Lost character Kate. Kate is the worst part of the show, one of the few poorly-drawn characters, and Evangeline isn’t a very good actress. But still, she’s cute, and I could see how her beauty and Lost fame could mean bigger paydays in film work. But Evangeline has never been interested in super-stardom, so I give her points for consistency. Evangeline has even said that after Lost, she probably won’t act again. Now Evangeline has given another interview where she’s talking about how she has shunned the opportunities given to her to “become the next Angelina Jolie.” It sounds like Evangeline is quite proud of frustrating movie producers:

THE only reason “Lost” star Evangeline Lilly isn’t as famous as Angelina Jolie is because she doesn’t want to be.

The TV actress tells the June issue of Women’s Health that her producers “have seen that I haven’t picked up on the opportunity to become a big movie star. It frustrates [them] that they’ve given me this chance to become the next Angelina Jolie” but she hasn’t gone after it.

Lilly adds, “Sure, I’d love to be her, but just the humanitarian side.”

[From Page Six]

I don’t really think Evangeline is bragging, saying that she could be the next Angelina Jolie - Lilly seems to be using Angelina’s name as shorthand for “big film actress”. In any case, I think Megan Fox would have something to say about Evangeline being the next Jolie.

Evangeline was recently announced as one of the new “faces” of Loreal, joining Elizabeth Banks and Freida Pinto. It was an interesting move for someone who claims to not be interested in the whole stardom thing, but I’d bet Lilly is just taking the money to do her missionary and humanitarian work. Or she’s going to blow it all on strippers and blow, either/or.

Evangeline Lilly probably not leaving ‘Lost’

A few months ago, “Lost” star Evangeline Lilly proclaimed that she probably wouldn’t be interested in acting post-“Lost”. Internet rumors began swirling last week that Lilly intended to quit “Lost” this season, and was already auditioning for the new fall television shows. That rumor turned out to be false, however. A “source” close to Lilly confirms that she’ll be on “Lost” for a while, but the denial is very carefully worded.

An Internet rumor claiming that Evangeline Lilly is auditioning for fall 2009 pilots — and thus may soon be leaving the role of Lost’s Kate — has been summarily dismissed as false.

“None of this is true, not even remotely,” a source close to the actress tells TVGuide.com.

So, from where was this far-out fable born? While the original online account cites a “solid” source as saying that Lilly is putting out feelers, the writer of said story “never called anyone to clarify [her claims] — not ABC, not Lilly’s publicist, not her agents,” says our own insider. “It was quite irresponsible.”

Both ABC and Lilly’s spokesperson declined to comment for this story.

From TV Guide

Why would both Lilly’s people and the ABC people decline to comment? Maybe there’s more to the rumor than initially thought, although I tended to believe Evangeline when she said she wasn’t going to make a go of acting in the long run. In a few more years, she’ll probably be in some poverty-stricken country doing relief work.

For fans of “Lost”, the character of Kate probably wouldn’t be sorely missed. Kate is… how do I put this?… kind of a wet blanket. She always gets herself into trouble, she always goes off somewhere half-cocked. Lilly and Matthew Fox are the “stars” of what should be just a straight-up ensemble, and if their parts get cut back, I won‘t miss them. If “Lost” loses Kate, perhaps we can have more episodes focusing on Sayeed and Sawyer (swoon).

Sidenote for the Losties: How great is this season? How sweet is it that Desmond named his son Charlie? I jumped out of my skin when Locke got into another car accident! And I love the new characters… this new guy who crashed on the latest plane crash, the one who pocketed the gun, he’s got a good story, I can tell.

Are Evangeline Lilly and Dominic Monaghan back together?

Lost stars Evangeline Lilly, 28, and Dominic Monaghan, 31, are said to have quietly rekindled their romance this February after breaking up three months ago. They met while filming the complicated castaway drama and were often photographed surfing and swimming in Hawaii together where the series was filmed. Monaghan’s character Charlie Pace was killed off the show last season, so he moved back to LA to continue his career. Lilly had to stay in Hawaii to film, and the distance was too much for them. They were reported to have broken up last November after three years together, when Monaghan was seen out with another woman. Neither commented on the relationship at the time.

Now Star reports that they’re back together, and that Lilly flew from Hawaii to Hollywood to attend the opening of Monaghan’s photography exhibit. Maybe they’re just friends and she’s being supportive, but if she traveled all that way they could have reunited:

Just three months after splitting up, Lost lovers Evangelina Lilly and Dominic Monaghan have quietly patched things up. The 28-year-old Canadian even flew from Hawaii, where the ABC show films, to Hollywood for the opening of Dominic’s photography show on March 13.

“They never stopped loving each other,” a source tells Star,. “She remained in Hawaii for the show, and he moved back to L.A. when he was killed off, so the distance took its toll. They decided to take a break, but it was really hard on them both.”

Frequent telephone calls and visits just reinforced to Evangeline and Dominic, that they belonged together. “It was as simple as that.”

[From Star Magazine, print edition, April 14, 2008]

I really like these two together and I hope this news is true. Many people commented about this relationship that they couldn’t see what gorgeous Lilly sees in quirky Dominic, but according to at least one study men who are less attractive then their wives make the best husbands, and it’s nice to see people together who aren’t both drop-dead gorgeous.

Still, we have the pictures from that night and Dominic was seen flirting with a cute brunette, while Lilly was chatting with friends. Maybe these two took pains not to be photographed together.

Thanks to WENN for these photos. The one of Monaghan looking flirting is credited “Dominic Monaghan and guest attending a private party at the Hamilton-Selway Fine Art Gallery in West Hollywood,” 3/13/08.

Evangeline Lilly & Dominic Monaghan breakup

top-hobbitlove1.jpg

Evangeline Lilly and Dominic Monaghan have reportedly broken up. The two actors met on the set of “Lost” and started dating shortly thereafter. They supposedly got engaged last spring, though they never made any public statement and no one seems to have ever spotted a ring. Monaghan played a hobbit in the “Lord of the Rings” and articles about the two were always tagged with some mention of a beautiful girl and a hobbit. Kind of sad. They seemed really happy and passionate and into each other.

“LOST” hottie Evangeline Lilly and her hobbit-like fiance, Dominic Monaghan, have hit the skids. Monaghan, whose character was killed off the show, was spotted crying, holding and kissing a woman who was not Lilly at El Coyote restaurant in L.A. on Saturday, reports entertainment blogger Nelson Aspen. “They were right in the middle of the room, they weren’t interested in privacy,” he said. “They looked very intimate. They were nursing margaritas, leaning in, chain-smoking, having intense conversation.” The two eventually drove off in a Toyota Prius together. Reps for Lilly and Monaghan did not return calls.

[From the New York Post]

Dominic Monaghan is having a bad few months. First he gets killed off from “Lost” and then his girlfriend/fiancée breaks up with him. No wonder he’s a weepy mess. Considering all that’s was said in the article, there are other interpretations for what went on. Though you’d think their reps would have bothered to refute it by now. I can’t say why, but I really liked this couple together. Maybe because they seemed sort of mismatched to the rest of us, but neither of them seemed to be aware of it. It was sweet. Something tells me Evangeline will be spending a lot of her spare time calling LiveLinks.

Evangeline Lilly Tours Middle Earth With A Hobbit (includes last season’s Lost plot)

hobbitlove1.jpg
Lord of the Rings fans give a sigh a jealousy, Evangeline Lilly is touring New Zealand with her boyfriend and former co-star Dominic Monaghan. He was killed-off at the end of season three of Lost. The pair refused to be photographed together, but Lilly did have this to say about their trip.

“I’m hoping not to do too much sightseeing,” Lilly said.

“I’d prefer to find a little nook, find a little town or cabin … go and have a beer with some locals, walk through the farms, pick wildflowers, write, read, be on my own. That’s what I need here. That’s what I’m looking for.

“If I was in Egypt or India I think I’d want to go and see the sights. Here, it’s more about absorbing the spirit and the soul of this place … ”

Lilly, who turns 28 on August 3, says she has wanted to come to New Zealand ever since she was taught by a Kiwi school teacher as a 14-year-old.

“He went home for Christmas, brought back a slideshow, told us all about his country. I fell in love. I swore on that day that I would move here and raise my kids in New Zealand.”

New Zealand Herald

Speculation is rife that they will be going to the Lord of the Rings locations and seeing where Monaghan filmed his role as the hobbit Merry. And obviously that they’ll be looking for a house to raise their yet unborn children. Actually, it is a completely rotten time of year to be here, mid-winter, she’ll probably go home and call her old teacher an idiot. Good beer though, very cold.

During last week’s visit to Sydney she talked about the Christmas fire that left her possession-less, caused by an electrical fault.

“It was a really liberating and exciting thing to happen,” Lilly told The Sunday Telegraph on a visit to Sydney last week.

“All that I lost were the things inside. I’ve always believed things are more of a chain than a vehicle. To not be tied down to anything was a great feeling.

“I was at work and I was like: `So I’ve got the clothes on my back, my wallet and my car and that’s everything I have in the world’.

It was like I was 20 again and the world was my oyster and I could go anywhere, do anything and be free.”

Daily Telegraph

While she might be enjoying her new freedom, I’ll bet the house she buys in NZ to raise her kids will be thoroughly checked for electrical issues.

Picture note by Celebitchy: Images are older ones of Lilly and Monaghan in Hawaii. I know that some people are still working their way through the confusing labyrinth of Lost episodes, and I included the note in the title about the sort-of spoiler so as not to ruin it for them.

Drew Barrymore, Jennifer Lopez, Cameron Diaz & Evangeline Lilly

Drew, J.Lo, and Evangeline all looked lovely at the Golden Globes. I’m impressed with J.Lo’s makeup, which has looked mismatched recently but seems just right and not overdone here. Drew is a vision in white. She’s appearing in the upcoming film Music and Lyrics By with Hugh Grant, and judging from the way they’re posing kind of far from each other I would say this appearance is for professional reasons, but I would like to be wrong.

Evangeline Lilly’s dress is a gorgeous swirl of muted pastels and I love her loose curly hair.

Cameron Diaz is a haughty mess. She tried to pull off upswept carefree hair, but her hair is too straight and it just looks messy. Those bright red glossy lips look clownish, and I can’t stand her frilly white dress. She’s taking too many risks here at once, and falls flat. Am I being too harsh on her?
