Golden Globes fashion: the best & worst dressed

wenn2714752

Okay, I’m going to try to limit this fashion post to the absolute best and worst, in my humble opinion. And this one is just for the ladies! If you want to see the men, try our hot men buffet. Anyhoodle, the prevailing fashion themes seemed to be: lots of black, lots of nudes, lots of ruffles and, of course, bad hair. Which was because of the rain. It sucked for the actresses, because you know that so many of them had spent hours getting their hair done just right, only to have it deflated instantly.

One of my least favorites was Drew Barrymore. Bad color, bad styling, bad hair, okay makeup. Drew is not one of those women who can pull off that nude-pink color. Very few women can, and Drew wasn’t the only one to make a bad color mistake. But the big appliqués on the shoulder and hip were terrible. Just bad, bad, bad:

wenn2715121

Marion Cotillard was one of my favorites, and honestly it was just about the color of the dress. That beautiful green-teal-blue color photographed so beautifully, and it looked great with her coloring too. I wasn’t crazy about the black lace inset, but it worked on her. One of my favorite things about Marion is how gigantic her ears are, and how she consistently wears her hair back on red carpets, as if to emphasize her ears – it’s a very confident move:

wenn2714332

I’m already breaking my own rule – because I didn’t love or hate Elisabetta Canalis’s dress, but I figure people want to talk about it. You know what’s funny? George Clooney didn’t let Canalis pose by herself for fashion shots! Every photo of Elisabetta is a photo of George. So, yeah. She’s not sticking around. As for the dress, I liked the color, and this is a good example of a pale color not washing a woman out. The vague bondage theme is probably appropriate too, yes?

wenn2715338

Now, one of my least favorites – Penelope Cruz. This junk was a f-cking disaster close-up, just judging from E!’s red carpet. When Penelope came up to talk to Ryan Seacrest, she looked and acted pissy, and I’m wondering if this dress might be the reason. It’s just so gaudy and haphazard, with the horizontal stripes throughout the bodice, and the lace appliqué on the shoulders and hem. It just looked messy. Oh, and when she turned around, you could see her ass. So, the dress is see-through too:

wenn2714333

Sandra Bullock was one of my favorites from the night, once again because she chose a beautiful color. The dress itself was weird and utterly diaphanous in certain light. It looked nice on Sandra, although her hair was a hot mess. Still, Sandra is famous for getting it wrong on the red carpet, and I thought she looked pretty great. It was her night, after all!

wenn2714799

Oh, Nicole. Once again, an example of this f-cking nude color not working. I guess this color is technically “champagne”. It’s still ugly, though. Bad design too, and I don’t get this styling movement to pair pale colors with bright lipstick. It’s jarring, and it rarely works. Nicole’s hair looked good, though. Still happy to see her back to bright red.

wenn2714919

For goodness sake, Julianne Moore. Pull your sh-t together. And you know Tom Ford dressed her too. He probably didn’t want her to pull focus from him, that bastard. This dress is horrid.

golden_globes_02_wenn2714255

Oh, and how ugly was Diane Kruger’s dress? She was another hot mess. Such a beautiful woman too, it was disappointing. She usually brings it.

golden_globes_21_wenn2714274

Okay, there were more ladies that I want to bring up, but this is getting long, so just note – I thought Olivia Wilde’s dress was pretty, and I though Fergie was looking really nice. Heidi Klum looked horrible and so, so ‘80s and Carey Mulligan was aiming for quirky, but just looked out of touch. Oh, and Mariah Carey was a f-cking mess, but she wasn’t important, thank God. I’m sure I missed some, but those were my best and worst for the evening.

Golden Globes: the Hot Men Buffet

golden_globes_pressroom_05_wenn27145291

I am not immune to the hot-man buffet that was the Golden Globes. There were cute men all around, although it did seem that the red carpet and the presenters were very heavily favoring television stars. I’m not going to wax rhapsodically about the dearth of real movie stars, but seriously! We got George Clooney and Robert Downey Jr., and not much else. Yes, Gerard Butler was there and he looked good. Colin Farrell too. But some of my hottest guys of the night were television people, so what’s up with that? Anyway, here’s some of my personal list of hot men.

First, The Movie Star himself, George Clooney. I watched the E! pre-show, and let me tell you something… George is totally over Elisabetta. She’s not going to make it much longer after the Oscars. Every time she tried to grab him, he pulled away. He’s over it. And for some reason, his beard (his actual beard) looked really scraggily too. It wasn’t his best night, fashion or sexy-wise.

wenn2714744

My real favorite couple was Colin Farrell and his girlfriend/baby-mama Alicja Bachleda. They looked very glamorous together, she’s flawless, and Colin looked like he bathed. Very, very nice. He’s the hotness:

wenn2714400

Ladies and gentlemen, Simon Baker! God, he’s gorgeous. This man knows how to wear a tuxedo. He’s just so, so pretty.

67th Annual Golden Globe Awards - Arrivals

Mmm… Jon Hamm. I love that his girlfriend can’t keep her damn hands off of him. It’s like she’ll use any excuse she can get to make out with him. Who can blame her? If I got within one mile of The Hamm, I would be a horny Hamm-seeking missile too:

Golden Globe Awards 2010 - PRESS ROOM

Speaking of knowing how to wear a damn tuxedo, I give you Alexander Skarsgard. I was on the phone with my mother for the pre-show, and even she was like “Who is that?!?” My answer? The hottest vampire ever!

Celebrities Sign Charity Car At 67th Annual Golden Globe Awards

Do people find Sam Worthington hot? I think he looks and acts kind of like a meathead, but whatever. I could see how he could be pretty to look at:

67th Annual Golden Globe Awards - Press Room

And finally, my guy Gerard Butler. From the photos of him, it looks like he walked the red carpet alone, but then sat with Jennifer Aniston during the show, and they posed together in the press room. I think he looks like he actually put some effort into looking good, but why won’t this motherf-cker shave? Why won’t any of them shave for a big night? Ugh. But still… he’s hot.

wenn2714747

Here’s Mickey Rourke, who some people think is sexy. My love for Rourke went down a notch when I saw that he brought his little Russian girlfriend to the show. The whole thing is sketchy, in my opinion:

Did I forget anybody? If I did, I’ll add them, just tell me in the comments!

Golden Globes wrap-up: winners & losers

wenn2714932

The Golden Globes are usually one of the best awards shows because they serve liquor, wine and champagne, and after the first hour, everyone is hammered. Unfortunately for this year, it didn’t seem like that many people wanted to get wasted, but on the plus side, the Hollywood Foreign Press did agree with me on some of the big awards of the night. Here’s the list of some of the big winners of the evening:

Film:
Best Picture- Drama – Avatar
Best Director – James Cameron for Avatar
Best Picture – Comedy/Musical – The Hangover
Animated Film – Up
Actress – Comedy/Musical – Meryl Streep for Julie and Julia
Actor – Comedy/Musical – Robert Downey Jr. for Sherlock Holmes
Actress – Drama – Sandra Bullock for The Blind Side
Actor – Drama – Jeff Bridges
Supporting Actor – Christoph Waltz for Inglourious Basterds
Supporting Actress – Mo’Nique for Precious
Screenplay – Up In the Air

Television:
Best Drama – Mad Men
Best Comedy – Glee
Best Miniseries/TV Movie – Grey Gardens
Actor in a Drama – Michael C. Hall
Actor in a Comedy – Alec Baldwin
Actress in a Drama – Julianna Margulies
Supporting Actress – Chloe Sevigny for Big Love
Supporting Actor – John Lithgow for Dexter
Television Movie – Grey Gardens
Actress in a TV Movie – Drew Barrymore
Actor in a TV Movie – Kevin Bacon

golden_globes_pressroom_05_wenn2714529

Some of my highlights from the show included Jeff Bridges’ victory and spontaneous standing ovation from his peers, Mo’Nique’s emotional and touching acceptance speech, Michael C. Hall looking strong despite his cancer, and any time the camera panned to any of the following: Jon Hamm, Robert Downey Jr. Colin Farrell, Gerard Butler, Jeremy Renner or Meryl Streep, who at one point looked like she was meditating.

wenn2714907

So, what do the Globes mean?!? I’m taking this away from the show – the Best Actress and Best Actor Oscars are now Bullock and Bridges’ to lose. I really think the two of them are the frontrunners, and at this point, I think Christoph Waltz is a shoo-in for Best Supporting Actor. He’s charming, by the way. He seems like a real sweetheart, and it’s good to see a relative unknown (like Waltz is in Hollywood) sweep the awards. As for Supporting Actress, I hesitate to say that Mo’Nique is the shoo-in. Yes, she’s picked up several of the big harbinger awards for the Oscars, but Mo’Nique isn’t really adhering to a strong Oscar campaign, and the Academy might look for an excuse not to give her an award. Sure, I definitely think Mo’Nique will get nominated, and she’s probably the front-runner. But will she end up with the award? I’ll have it figured out in another few weeks!

Jennifer Aniston & Brangelina will not face off at the Golden Globes

infphoto_1153281

A couple of weeks ago, Life & Style Magazine started a rumor that Jennifer Aniston, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie were all going to “face off” at this year’s Golden Globes (which are this Sunday, hurray!). The whole story was a sad attempt to create some old uncool Bermuda Triangle drama, especially depressing because A) This sh-t’s been going on for more than five years now; B) Because the dumb “showdown” already happened at last year’s Oscars and C) Where Aniston was confirmed as a presenter at the Globes, Brad and Angelina were utterly unconfirmed. Well, breaking news or whatever: Brad and Angelina aren’t coming. Yes, Angelina’s stylist (who I hate) Jennifer Rabe “confirmed” to Us Weekly that Brad and Angelina won’t be dropping by, because Brad didn’t get an acting nomination for Inglourious Basterds. Glittery sack dresses are especially depressed with this news, because one of them dreamt of being worn like a muu-muu by Angelina!

Glorious news, for Jennifer Aniston: she won’t have to avoid ex Brad Pitt — or his lady friend Angelina Jolie — at next Sunday’s Golden Globe Awards. Although the acclaimed Inglourious Basterds is a contender at the ceremony, costar Pitt (who was passed over for a supporting actor nod) nor Jolie will be in attendance.

Jen Rade, stylist to Jolie, 34, confirmed the news to UsMagazine.com. Rade spoke at length to E! News on Sunday about the no-show. “They’re not going because he’s not nominated individually,” she said. “Inglourious Basterds is, but not him.”

Single girl Aniston, 40, has been confirmed as a presenter at the awards; Inglourious’ many nominations led to much speculation about an Aniston-Jolie-Pitt faceoff. (Pitt and Aniston announced their split five years ago in January 2004, divorcing later that year.)

Pitt, 46, and Jolie plus their six kids became temporary — and enthusiastic! — New Yorkers over the holiday season. Jolie was in town to reshoot scenes for her film Salt, and the clan took advantage of the Big Apple despite the frigid temperatures: romantic dinners for the couple, Broadway matinees for some of the kids, a boys night out at Dave and Busters for Pitt, Pax, 7, and Maddox 8, the girls’ visit to Jolie’s film set and more.

[From Us Weekly]

Aw, I was kind of hoping they would show up, just so Ricky Gervais (who is hosting) would heckle them and we could laugh. You know Ricky had some zingers prepared for Brangelina too – he was already cracking jokes about them in the commercials for the Globes. So, will Ricky crack a joke about Aniston? He wouldn’t dare, would he?

Mo’Nique says ‘Precious’ role helped her forgive real-life abuser

wenn5407773

Mo’Nique, fresh from her Golden Globe nomination and SAG award nomination for her searing performance in the film “Precious,” says that the breakthrough role has done more than put her on the map as a serious actress. The preparation and character study she did in order to convincingly play the part of Precious’ abusive mother made her confront and ultimately understand the abuse she suffered as a child, at the hands of her own brother. Mo’Nique says she now forgives her brother for molesting her and hopes he will get help.

Mo’Nique is going through a very public forgiveness in her new movie Precious – a performance that was not easy but has earned her a Golden Globe nomination.

“I know Mary Jones. I know that monster,” Mo’Nique told Joy Behar on her show Tuesday night of her character, a mentally ill, abusive mother. “That character for me, in my life, was my older brother.”

The actress, 42, revealed in 2008 to Essence that she was sexually molested at 7 years old by her teenage brother. “I didn’t tell my parents until I was 15-years-old. [Unlike Precious] I had my family, but when you go through that as a child, you really don’t know which way to turn,” she said.

Although she opened up to her parents as a teen, Mo’Nique, who has not spoken to her brother in years, said she didn’t really confront her past until she was an adult. “I’m angry. I’m mad. I’m hurt. I’m crying, but doing this movie made me say, ‘You know what? I forgive.’ I forgive and I wish he would get the help that he needs, so no one else will go through it,” she said.

She adds: “Understanding Mary Jones in her sickness really made me understand my brother in his sickness. Not all molesters are bad people. We want to make them these monsters. It’s a sickness and if we address it as a sickness and try to get help, so many of us wouldn’t have a story to tell.”

[From People]

Mo’Nique has said in other interviews that there were times during the shoot of the film when she wasn’t sure if she could go through with some of the things she was asked to do as part of the character. I’m sure she’s happy she pushed herself through it now, because she’s one of the favorites for the Supporting Actress category at the Golden Globes and even a contender for an Oscar nomination. It can’t be easy to play a role like this, especially when you have your own abuse story in real life. But in this instance, it helped her.

Golden Globe nominations: Streep, Bullock, Clooney & Damon are faves

wenn2676313

Oh, I had forgotten the Golden Globe nominations were coming out this morning! The Globes are probably one of the best barometers for the Oscars, although just because someone wins the Globe, or is nominated for a Globe, doesn’t mean it’s going to happen for the Oscars. Still, it’s a great harbinger, and it’s also a great way to see how the races are shaping up.

Big news – Avatar is in competition for Best Picture, after getting left out of many of the critics “Best Picture” lists. Sandra Bullock and Meryl Streep both got dual nominations – Sandra for Comedy and Drama actress for The Proposal and The Blind Side, with Meryl going up against herself in the Comedic Actress category. Matt Damon got two nominations too – supporting actor for Invictus, and Comedic Actor for The Informant! Christoph Waltz from Inglourious Basterds is well on his way to getting the only acting Oscar nomination for that film… although Basterds did get noms for Best Picture, director and screenplay. Here’s the list for films:

Best Motion Picture – Drama
Avatar
The Hurt Locker
Inglourious Basterds
Precious
Up in the Air

Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy
500 Days of Summer
The Hangover
It’s Complicated
Julie and Julia
Nine

Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama
Jeff Bridges, Crazy Heart
George Clooney, Up in the Air
Colin Firth, A Single Man
Morgan Freeman, Invictus
Tobey Maguire, Brothers

Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama
Emily Blunt, Young Victoria
Sandra Bullock, The Blind Side
Helen Mirren, last station
Carey Mulligan, An Education
Gabourey Sidibe, Precious

Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy
Sandra Bullock, The Proposal
Marion Cottilard, Nine
Julia Roberts, Duplicity
Meryl Streep, It’s Complicated
Meryl Streep, Julie & Julia

Joseph Gordon Levitt, 500 Days of Summer

Best Director – Motion Picture
Kathryn Bigelow, The Hurt Locker
James Cameron, Avatar
Clint Eastwood, Invictus
Jason Reitman, Up in the Air
Quentin Tarantino, Inglourious Basterds

Best Screenplay – Motion Picture
District 9
Hurt Locker
It’s Complicated
Up in the Air
Inglourious Basterds

Best Animated Film
Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs
Coraline
Fantastic Mr. Fox
The Princess & the Frog
Up

Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture
Penélope Cruz, Nine
Vera Farmiga, Up in the Air
Anna Kendrick, Up in the Air
Mo’Nique, Precious
Julianne Moore, A Single Man

Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture
Matt Damon, Invictus
Woody Harrelson, The Messenger
Christopher Plummer, The Last Station
Stanley Tucci, The Lovely Bones
Christoph Waltz, Inglourious Basterds

[From OK! Magazine]

The nominations for Nine are interesting – Marion Cottilard and Penelope Cruz. No Kate Hudson, no Judi Dench, no Nicole Kidman, no Sophia Loren. I bet that changes for the Oscars! I’m also rooting for Julianne Moore and Colin Firth for A Single Man, just because I want them both on every red carpet. Because they’re awesome! And Clint Eastwood got nominated too! Good for him. And Meryl! God, will she finally get her Oscar this year? It’s been, like, 30 years since she last won. It’s just tragic at this point.

Ricky Gervais confirmed as host of alcohol-soaked Golden Globes

wenn5360599

Ricky Gervais has been confirmed as the host of the 2010 Golden Globes, to be held in January. In the past few years, the Golden Globes have gone host-less, opting instead for just straight category presenters and a disembodied voice announcing whoever or whatever. It’s been 15 years since there was a real “host” of the Globes, according to People. Part of the reason the show works well without a host is because the setting is more like a fancy dinner than an awards show – food and copious amounts of alcohol are served, and by the end of the evening, the last Globe winners are usually slurring their words a bit.

All that being said, I’m totally thrilled Ricky will be hosting. He’s the highlight of any awards ceremony, he’s brilliant, he’s hilarious and he’s naughty. He’s the kind of host a crowd of drunk actors will fully appreciate. At this year’s Globe ceremony, he stopped his presenting duties to congratulate his friend (and Extras guest actress) Kate Winslet for her win for The Reader. Ricky, referencing her part on Extras, said “Well done Winslet! I told ya – do a Holocaust movie, the awards come, didn‘t I? Trouble is with Holocaust films: There’s no gag reel on the DVDs. There isn‘t.” Here’s the video:

He’s provided memorable moments on the Golden Globe awards in the past – and this year Ricky Gervais will have the chance to do so again. The British comedian will host the 67th Annual Golden Globes in January, PEOPLE has confirmed.

“Not only is this the biggest Hollywood celebration of the industry, which includes both film and TV, but also an environment where I feel I can get free reign as a host,” Gervais said Monday. “I have resisted many other offers like this, but there are just some things you don’t turn down.”

This marks the first time that the telecast has had a host since 1995

“We are delighted to have Ricky Gervais as the host on our show,” said Philip Berk, President of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.

A four-time Emmy winner, Gervais has also won three Golden Globes. In 2008, his HBO show Extras was named best television comedy at the Globes.

The Golden Globes will be broadcast live on NBC on Jan. 17 from the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles (8 p.m. ET). Nominations will be announced on Dec. 15.

[From People]

A while back, I said on some post or another that Ricky should be asked to host the Oscars. While I hope that does happen some day, I do think Ricky should get his feet wet hosting shows like the Golden Globes and the Emmys. Do those shows for a few years, and then move on to the Oscars. He’ll be brilliant!

At the 2008 Emmys, Ricky had one of the best moments too – he called out Steve Carrell for taking his Emmy the year before:

Jennifer Lopez ditched her wedding ring because it didn’t match her dress

fp_1796771_fp_golden_globes1_011109

Here’s a question for you married ladies: do you take off your wedding ring if it doesn’t “go” with an outfit? Better yet: how does one determine that your wedding ring clashes with what you’re wearing, exactly? That was the excuse Jennifer Lopez gave to the press when she turned up on the Golden Globes red carpet without her marital rock. Sounds legitimate enough when taken on face value, but when added to the already growing pile of stories about her impending divorce from husband Marc Anthony, you can’t help but wonder.

JENNIFER LOPEZ has denied further rumours her marriage to MARC ANTHONY is in trouble, insisting she didn’t wear her wedding ring to the Golden Globes because ‘it didn’t go with the dress.’
The actress made the bizarre remark after she was snapped posing on the red carpet at the awards ceremony without her wedding band.

But J. Lo insists she was just making a fashion statement.

She told American magazine In Touch: “Every time I’m not wearing my ring, people think I’m getting divorced.

“That’s crazy. It just didn’t go with the dress.

“Divorce is not and was never an option.”

The couple has been dogged by break-up reports for weeks, with one U.S. tabloid claiming the couple will announce a break-up publicly on Valentine’s Day.

[From The Sun]

I do think it’s a bit silly to assume that a couple is breaking up because one of them goes to an event without their wedding ring. Especially when that couple is going out to said events together. But the excuse does seem a little weird. I wear my ring no matter what I’m wearing for an outfit. It’s a beautiful ring and has a lot of special meaning to me. If an outfit clashed that much with it, chances are, I’d ditch the outfit before I’d ditch the ring. In fact, I recently had to take my wedding ring off temporarily, until after my baby is born because my fingers are all swollen- and I feel naked without it! But then again, I’m not J.Lo.

Here’s Jennifer and Marc on the red carpet before the Golden Globes on Sunday. Images thanks to Fame and Bauer-Griffin.

Golden Globes Canceled

null
The award show second only to the Oscars has been axed. Of course celebs will still get their ego stroking in the form of the a golden trophy. Instead of a glitzy affair with a red carpet and more hair extensions than Britney’s closet can hold, a simple announcement of winners will be made. The unofficial word is that the entire event has been canceled.

“The Golden Globes telecast, Hollywood’s biggest party of the year, has been canceled, reports DeadlineHollywoodDaily.com, after weeks of bitter acrimony between striking writers, Globes organizers the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and broadcast partner NBC.”

[MTV]

This Sunday should have been a big night for NBC. The network had exclusive right to the award show and would have raked in big advertising dollars. But with the Writers Guild of America still striking the awards could not go on. Writers threatened to picket the live telecast of the awards and the red carpet arrivals. Celebrity boycotts followed their picket threats with support from the Screen Actors Guild.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association asked NBC to take the show off the air. With celebs refusing to cross the picket line and the lack of a red carpet what will there be to air anyway? A press release with the winners is expected to be the humble way in which winners will be announced.

“A stripped down announcements telecast will be aired by NBC News. It will consist of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association handing out Golden Globes to the winners, who will then pick up the awards and pass through a press room for photos and interviews.”

I can just see tumbleweeds rolling along the carpet and Ryan Seacrest standing there smoking a cig waiting for something to do. He would probably bitch to the camera man about how it took him an hour to get his hair just right. It’s a sad day.

Note by Celebitchy: Pictures are from last year’s Golden Globes. Also, poor Rumer Willis will get stiffed out of her chance at being “Miss Golden Globe” and getting to hand out the stature.

Introducing Miss Golden Globe 2008

Rumor Willis is to be Miss Golden Globe 2008. Now, I must confess to never having heard of this title, but I can tell you there is no pageant involved. Rather, you need to be the spawn of at least one famous parent. Son or daughter is okay, and I guess not married, given the title is Miss if you’re female. Seems to be a prize which you don’t have to do very much to actually win, just be born, but if you aren’t born to the right parents you are out of the draw.

So what does Rumor’s participation in the event involve? Handing out those pointy golden trophies to the winners, and looking glamorous while doing it of course.

Maintaining the tradition of having a child of Hollywood royalty in charge of handing out the prize at hand, Rumer Willis was named Miss Golden Globe 2008 on Wednesday by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.

Willis, the 19-year-old daughter of two-time Globe nominee Demi Moore and four-time nominee – and winner for the TV series Moonlighting – Bruce Willis, follows in the footsteps of such illustrious names as 2007′s presenter Lorraine Nicholson (Jack’s pride), 2004′s Lily Costner (Kevin’s kid) and 1995′s John Clark Gable (son of Clark).

People

Rumer’s previous red carpet appearances may have only been due her famous parents, while this time she’s got an actual job at an awards ceremony… as a result of her famous parents.

Sadly for Rumor, who has her own developing acting career, she’s obviously not going to be nominated for any awards this year if she’s Miss Golden Globe.

Here’s a list of the previous Golden Globe trophy presenters, including a young Melanie Griffith.

Globes will be broadcast 13th January, and Steven Spielberg will be awarded the Cecil B. DeMille Award for his “outstanding contribution to entertainment”.

Picture note by Celebitchy: Rumer Willis is shown on 11/7/07 at the DKNY Delicious Fragrance Launch Party in NY. Thanks to WENN and PRPhotos for these pictures.
