Kathy Griffin said she faked engagement, never slept with Steve Wosniak

Comedienne Kathy Griffin is claiming that she and supposed ex-fiancé Steve Wozniak (the teddy bear billionaire co-founder of Apple) were never really engaged. In fact, she’s claiming that their relationship was pretty much platonic the whole time, even though she says they were dating. Griffin claims she and Wozniak never slept together – and she wore a giant fake engagement ring to the Emmys – which he didn’t even notice.

Kathy Griffin says she never went all the way with her ex, Apple co-founder billionaire Steve Wozniak. “We were dating, but were just friendly. I never f—-d him or anything!” she told Usmagazine.com during a visit to our NYC offices last Thursday. “The truth is,” she added, “we really were friends the whole time.” They definitely had their laughs together, she said.

“When we went to the Emmys together, I put on this really huge engagement ring and didn’t tell him,” she told Us. “There are these great photos of me posing with this great big fake diamond ring. He didn’t notice!” she added. “I was like, ‘Oh, by the way at the Emmys, I had on a fake engagement ring!’ And he was like, ‘Oh, that’s very funny.’”

She announced their split in April (they met in 2007 after he watched her perform). After they called it quits, she said “he met someone very quickly and then they [got] engaged.” No hard feelings, said Griffin, who plans to visit Wozniak (who appears on her Bravo reality show) in Saratoga, New York, on July 11. “I have had dinner with them, and she’s a thousand times more appropriate!” she said. “I hate to say it, but in the Bruce, Demi, Ashton [scheme of things], I’m the Bruce!”

[From US Weekly]

My first reaction is that she’s trying to save face, but that doesn’t really seem like the self-deprecating Kathy Griffin we’ve come to know. It’s a little confusing that they were dating but “just friendly.” I thought dating happened once you felt more than friendly for someone, no? The thing about the engagement ring doesn’t surprise me at all – I know at least thirty guys that would never notice something like that unless someone pointed it out.

Griffin and Wozniak seemed like an unusual but cute match. From the interviews she did this past fall, it sure seemed like they were together in a more traditionally romantic sense. Either way they’re obviously still good friends, and it’s great that they can be happy for each other’s new romantic successes.

T.R. Knight slams politician at GLAAD awards

The GLAAD Media Awards were held on Saturday night, and had quite the A-list celebs. The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation gives out awards to celebrities, television shows, and films that that portray accurate and inclusive representations the gay community. Ugly Betty won for Outstanding Comedy Series, while Brothers & Sisters took home the award from Outstanding Drama Series. Not surprisingly, Kathy Griffin’s My Life on the D-List won for Outstanding Reality program.

Kathy Griffin sure knows how to yuk it up with her gays.

The redheaded funnylady picked up the Outstanding Reality Program award for her My Life on the D-List last night during the GLAAD Media Awards at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood.

“I got the Michael Kors dress, the H. Stern jewelry and [stylist] Robert Verdi put me together,” she said. “I didn’t let a straight person near me tonight.”

[From E!]

T.R. Knight used his time onstage to address some important political issues.

T.R. Knight spoke of the recent murders of teens Lawrence King and Simmie Williams Jr., who were killed earlier this year allegedly because they were gay. The openly gay Grey’s Anatomy star also blasted republican Oklahoma state representative Sally Kern, who has come under fire since it was revealed that in a recent speech she compared gays to terrorists and said she believed the “homosexual agenda is destroying this nation.”

“I am realizing more and more how privileged I am to be able to use my voice to support an organization like GLAAD,” Knight said. “I will continue to do so until the Sally Kerns are taught the real teachings of Jesus Christ.”

Adnan and Kathy Griffin take a ride down Robertson in a convertible

Britney’s probably-ex boyfriend, paparazzo Adnan Ghalib, and comedian Kathy Griffin took a ride down Robertson Boulevard in a convertible and then held hands as they walked down the street, stopping to shop at Victoria’s Secret together. It was surely a staged photo op, but it was a scene for Kathy’s show, not Ashton’s. Kathy is filming her reality show “My Life on the D List,” for Bravo and it seems she came up with the clever way to create a scene. The Daily Mail reports that photographers initially thought she was Britney in a wig, and they also point out that Griffin regularly skewers Britney in her comedy act, making it all the more interesting that she appropriated Britney’s ex boyfriend to cause a stir:

The couple were followed by a host of photographers and videographers, who originally mistook Griffin for Spears in a red wig.

Having moved from behind the camera to be a paparazzo target, Ghalib happily introduced the funny girl to the crowd of photographers.

When asked by the herd of paparazzi what the Toxic singer would think of Ghalib’s association with a woman who has publicly mocked her, he refused to answer.

The surprising meeting of Griffin and Ghalib has left gossips wondering if the pair are dating or plotting a TV stunt together.

Redhead comedienne Griffin, currently starring in reality show Life On The D-List, regularly targets the troubled singer in her stand-up routines and TV shows.

Griffin regularly uses Spears’ shambolic performance at the MTV Video Music Awards last year as a focal point of her stand-up routine.

[From The Daily Mail]

Kathy has a billionaire fiance so it’s not like she’s going to throw that away for a romp in the sack with Adnan, but the guy oozes slimy charm and he’s got a cute accent. You know Kathy was thinking about it - I am.

Thanks to WENN and Splash for these photos.

Kathy Griffin Banned from The View Again

kathyviewheader.jpg
Sometime co-host Kathy Griffin has reportedly been banned for a second time from appearing on that post-menopausal bitch-fest, The View. Seems that every time Kathy comes on the show, she uses it as fodder for her stand-up comedy routines, in which she mercilessly skewers the celebrity guests and hosts—including Barbara Walters.

Kathy Griffin is an outspoken comedian who has apparently stepped over the line, at least where Barbara Walters is concerned. Griffin does a dead on impersonation of Babs. She has been performing her standup act in a sold out run at Madison Square Garden. Her final show is tonight, and she had planned to be a guest on this morning’s broadcast of the popular talk show, The View.

Griffin apparently received a phone call yesterday from the shows producer Bill Geddie. He informed her that they have canceled her scheduled appearance because she was too mean to Barbara during her last special on Bravo.

The comedian said that she had been banned once before, but was incredulous to have been rebanned. Griffin is likely to use this momentary setback as fodder for her stand up act. Babs may regret the slight because of the ensuing fallout that is likely to occur.

[From Bitten and Bound]

Barbara Walters really needs to get over herself. It’s obvious that Kathy Griffin idolizes Walters, and is poking fun in the same, good-natured way a kid sister picks on her older sibling. Griffin herself has admitted to antagonizing Walters on the set because she loves trying to “shock” her. It also happens to be hilarious. Besides, Griffin isn’t the first comedienne to mimic Walters—Gilda Radner did a killer impression of Babs on Saturday Night Live back in the ‘70s. If Walters had been hosting this piece of crap show back then, Gilda probably would have been banned, too.

Kathy Griffin engaged to Apple co-founder billionaire

kathysteve.jpg
Comedienne Kathy Griffin has landed one of the world’s richest bachelors, Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak. She brought the huggable guy to the Emmys with her, and looked like she was wearing an engagement ring, although she wouldn’t comment when asked about it, saying “I don’t kiss and tell.”

On an appearance on Larry King about her censored Emmy speech she said “What do you make, Lar? You make a few million a year? He craps that out for lunch. I mean this guy has so much money — but I love him for his personality.”

It looks like Wozniak became smitten with Griffin from afar and pursued her, coming to see her perform in July. He is said to have left her a gift basket with items for her dog before they met. That’s sweet!

Just one year after a bitter a divorce from husband Matt Moline, it looks like Kathy Griffin may be ready to walk down the aisle again. We spotted Griffin with boyfriend and Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak at the Emmys, and the fiery comic was sporting what appeared to be an engagement ring. “I don’t kiss and tell,” the usually forthcoming Griffin told Usmagazine.com.

The couple did reveal that they met in Saratoga where Wozniak came to see Griffin perform. “I was a fan of hers before we met,” he tells Us. “I love her personality and her quick thinking. I think we have so much in common.” Quips Griffin, who later shared chocolate covered strawberries with Wozniak at the Entertainment Tonight party at the Walt Disney Concert Hall, “The thing is he doesn’t realize that I am the brains of the operation and he is like some dumb bimbo that I picked up!”

[From US Weekly]

People are saying that Wozniak isn’t much to look at, but I would take an average-looking good guy who is successful any day over a hot one who can’t rub two sticks together. Remember the first season of that stupid dating show “Average Joe” from 2003? The woman who was trying to find a mate, Melana, ended up at the end with the choice of a funny as hell moderately chubby but cute guy, Adam, who was an Internet millionaire with his own bar in NY city, or a hot but dumb waiter who still lived with his parents. She picked the hot dumb guy! (The average guy that everyone loved, Adam Mesh, got a spin off show in which he picked another chick, but that didn’t last predictably and now he’s married to a woman that was his neighbor.)

Anyway Kathy Griffin looks like she made a good choice, and if she’s at all inclined for the good life she can most likely indulge to her heart’s content. You go Kathy!

ABC won’t let Ellen DeGeneres use her own sitcom clips

top.jpg

Remember Ellen’s sitcom, back in the day? I don’t think a ton of people watched it before she came out, but I always thought it was funny. Before her current talk show, I always heard people saying they thought she was annoying, but now everyone seems to be in love with her (I’m no exception – listen to her old comedy CD, it’s hysterical). Ellen had Mariska Hargitay on her show this week, and wanted to show a clip of Hargitay guest starring on Ellen’s sitcom back in 1996 (though weirdly enough, the episode was taped in 1994 during the show’s first season). ABC gave Ellen a big old no, even though she worked for the network for years – and her show is still syndicated on many local ABC channels.

“Talk show host Ellen DeGeneres has been refused access to clips from her own former sitcom. The comedienne asked ABC/Disney bosses to let her show a segment from her old program, which featured a guest appearance from actress Mariska Hargitay - and was told the footage was off limits.

“DeGeneres, who hit the headlines a decade ago when she ‘came out’ as a lesbian on the sitcom and in real life, was hoping to use the clip to show Hargitay when the Law & Order: Special Victims Unit star made her debut on the Ellen show on Friday.

“‘She was a guest star on my original sitcom and it was a hilarious scene… I wanted to show it today… but Disney will not let me have any clips of my show to show, unless we pay a whole lot of money. It was my show… We’d be advertising it, it would help them.’”

[From Starpulse]

That would piss me off too. I’m kind of surprised Ellen even mentioned it, since she’s considered the real “Queen of Nice.” We forget that Rosie O’Donnell used to have that title, before the “View” and drawing horns on pictures of Elizabeth Hasselbeck. Ellen had Kathy Griffin on her show this week, and admitted that she originally didn’t watch Griffin’s show “My Life on the D List” because she thought it’d be too mean-spirited, but said she’d given it a viewing and enjoyed it. The contrast between the stars was interesting to watch.

“Ellen’s good-natured style of humor made for an interesting conflict with the sharp, pointed jabs Kathy is known for taking against celebrities, a difference the host brought up in the interview.

Ellen: “Do you feel bad? Do you feel like you could then go up — because I know all these people. So, for me — and I was also on the other end of it — I used to get… After I came out, I was the butt of everybody’s joke. So I know what it feels like to be talked about all the time.”

Kathy: “Not mine. Not mine. And that’s really — people say ‘Do you have lines? Do you have lines?’ [lines that you won’t cross] Yeah, I don’t make fun of people who have a sense of humor about themselves, I don’t make fun of people — honestly, what I do is I make fun of people who created a situation. I don’t say about Star Jones, ‘Uhm, she’s fat. Goodnight everybody!’ I say ‘I worked with her and my experience was she was a [censored].’ That’s my experience with her, we all know it. Don’t act like I’m the first one to say that … but, also, if you were puking all over in nightclubs or get out of the car without the panties that’s a different story because that’s something you’re controlling … and it’s fun. Honestly, I make fun of people’s behavior more than I make fun of how they look. And I’ve been that person too, I’ve had the nasty pictures and had the ‘worst dressed’ and all that too.”

[From After Elton]

After that, Ellen had a segment where she held up pictures of famous people and told Kathy she had to find a nice thing to say about each of them. Kathy made a few barbs instead (you could tell she was trying not to but couldn’t resist) and Ellen looks visibly pissed/annoyed and almost angry at her a few times. It’s kind of funny. Here’s a clip below.

Kathy Griffin’s Emmy speech to be censored

griffin1.JPG

So there’s this awards show called the Creative Arts Emmys. It has categories like “Outstanding Individual Achievement in Animation,” “Outstanding Costumes for a Variety/Music Program,” and “Outstanding Special Class Program” where they nominate other awards shows. Think of them as the Junior Emmys. I believe the show is held in a high school gymnasium’s empty swimming pool, or something close to that. They generally didn’t get a lot of publicity, until E! came around and had hours and hours of time available to devote to otherwise passed-over content. Hence the Creative Arts Emmys are now shown on TV a week after they actually take place. I have no idea why. Comedian Kathy Griffin won an award for “Outstanding Reality Program” for her show, “My Life on the D-List.” I haven’t seen the show and couldn’t give a flip about Kathy Griffin, but she gave an acceptance speech that really riled some people.

“‘Mel Gibson. Michael Richards. Isaiah Washington. Imus. Jerry Lewis. Every time a celebrity offends a segment of the population, he pays a price, in one way or another,’ said [Catholic League president Bill] Donohue in a Monday statement. ‘The question now is whether Kathy Griffin will pay a similar price for her outburst. And as we have learned, her verbal assault was calculated.’

“‘I guess hell froze over,’ Griffin told a receptive audience as she accepted her Emmy statuette. ‘A lot of people come up here and thank Jesus for this. He had nothing to do with this… suck it Jesus, this award is my God now.’

Donohue described Griffin’s remarks as a ‘kind of vulgar in-your-face brand of hate speech’ coming from a self-described ‘complete militant atheist,’ and pleaded with The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences’ chairman and CEO Dick Askin to help in condemning what she said.

“‘Kathy Griffin’s offensive remarks will not be part of the E! telecast on Saturday night,’ the Academy said in a Monday statement, according to The AP.

[From Reality TV World]

It’s pretty clear to me that Kathy Griffin wasn’t mocking Christianity, she was just mocking how important awards are to Hollywood, by joking (in a cutting manner… but hey, humor beyond formulaic jokes can be cutting) that her award is now her God. It doesn’t seem that she was mocking Jesus; she was mocking herself by acting like an award mattered more than anything else in the world. She could also be mocking the way so many celebrities suddenly thank God when they get an award, but never acknowledge religion at any other time. Everyone’s entitled to their opinion, but I really don’t think this was that offensive. Think of all the Jesus/nun/pope joke toys out there.

Ivanka says no to The View

ivanka.jpg
Well it appears there was some truth to the rumor that Ivanka Trump would be asked to joint the view as a co-host. While talking with Ryan Seacrest, she responded “There’s zero chance I would do that.” When Seacrest pushed her, she did vaguely confirm that an offer of some sort had been extended. “I’ve gotten a lot of requests. Let’s just leave it at that.” Snippy much?

I had thought Ivanka was the classier of the Trumps, but it appears I’m wrong. She’s too busy being sexy and doing sexy sexy things to be on The View.

“I’m working on the sexiest projects around the world. So, to me, to be on a television show every single day at a designated period of time just wouldn’t work in terms of my schedule.”

[From E News]

I too am far too sexy to work for most major morning shows, so I understand how she feels. Wait, it’s that her projects are too sexy. Okay I too have a job so sexy that I wouldn’t be able to deal with Barbara Walters. It’s a gift, it’s a curse, what can I say? Could Ivanka possibly sound more like her father? Somehow I’d hoped she’d escaped the Trump Sexy Curse and would have some class, but that talking-yourself-up-all-the-time thing is just very tacky.

Kathy Griffin seems to be bandied about most for the gig. She recently said gave an interview where she mentioned that she thought it would be fun, but wasn’t sure it would work out.

“They (the producers of The View) are not throwing piles of money at me. They’re not begging. I love when you hear these actresses say, ‘The producer literally got on his knees and opened a briefcase full of money.’ With me, no. It’s like, ehhhh, they might, they might not, if they do they don’t want me to talk so much. Believe me, there are a lot of provisos… Honestly, I don’t think they’re going to come up with the Griffin dollars. But I’m happy to go and check it out and see what they want. I’ve done The View a bunch of times and it’s a very fun show to do.”

[From the Winnipeg Sun]

It sounds like the produces are pretty serious about not paying this person much. Rosie O’Donnell left because they wouldn’t pony up the cash, and it seems like it’s taking them forever to even come up with a name. They never replaced Star Jones. She left a bit before Rosie started, but she’d already been officially hired to replace Meredith Viera. This show has been in flux for the last few years – and maybe that’s a good thing. It had many stale years prior to that. Let’s hope they can find someone good, who can avoid fights with the Trumps… and avoid their sexiness, if at all possible.
