Mariah Carey’s request for 20 snow white kittens at mall appearance denied

hotel 191109

Mariah Carey’s continuing her epic diva tour through the U.K. And thankfully, the press is there to document every little bit of it. And I’m not saying that with sarcasm – I really do relish reading about all her ridiculous demands. It’s the stuff legends are made of. Today’s demands? That she be surrounded by 20 white kittens and 100 white doves while she turns on the Christmas lights at a shopping center.

When I turn on a mall’s Christmas lights, I traditionally demand 40 tigers and three flamingos. I like a nice 1980s pink and yellow color scheme. Mariah is a little more classic with her all-white demands. To her credit, she did not demand that the kittens have their eyelids encrusted with Swarovski crystals nor their nails painted in alternating red and pink hues. So I think it could have been a lot worse. Nonetheless, the kittens were a no-go. The final dove status remains unclear. Uptight British jerks.

As one of the world’s biggest stars, Mariah Carey doesn’t know the meaning of the word No. But it appears Britain’s health and safety officials are about to teach her. They have flatly turned down her demands to be surrounded by 20 white kittens and 100 white doves as she turns on a shopping centre’s Christmas lights. Miss Carey, 39, wants confetti shaped like butterflies, her favourite insect, to shower over her at the end of her appearance at the Westfield complex in West London. The American singer had issued a string of extravagant requirements in return for her appearance at the Westfield complex in West London.

The list - known in showbusiness circles as a ‘rider’ - included being driven by Rolls Royce along a pink carpet right to the pink podium where she is to wave a wand to turn on the lights. A source revealed the model of car had to be changed six times before she was finally happy. Miss Carey, 39, wants confetti shaped like butterflies, her favourite insect, to shower over her at the end. She has also requested an entourage of 15 along with about 80 security guards.

However, it appears her demands for white kittens and doves - which were already proving difficult to track down - were just too much for her hosts. A source said: ‘We did manage to source the doves that we were going to release into the sky, but the kittens proved terribly difficult. ‘In the end, it was made clear that due to health and safety, there was no way we could have the animals at Westfield. ‘We do not allow pets into Westfield - that rule would apply for everyone. We have worked extremely hard to make sure that Mariah’s event is fantastic. Even the model of car had to be changed six times to one that her people liked.’

Before health and safety stepped in, finding 20 pure white kittens was giving Miss Carey’s hosts a headache. The simplest way would be to hire them from one of Britain’s animal acting agencies. But it was thought impossible to provide so many at short notice. Pet shops have the same problem. One worker at a shop in South-West London said last night: ‘We could get you one but not 20. For starters, all-white kittens are not all that common in Britain.’

[From the Daily Mail]

I bet Mariah also demanded that the kittens float down from the heavens using tiny pink parasols to gently guide them through the soft breeze. God what a friggin’ cute image. I really can’t argue with trying to get 20 kittens. If I were famous, my only diva demand would be to always be surrounded by oodles of tiny kittens. Of assorted varieties though. And they must be poufy. And smell like baby powder. And have bright pink paw pads – none of that brown business. I feel like I’m relating to Mariah more and more every day… NOW BRING ME MY BLUE M&Ms!

Mariah Carey annoys UK TV host by showing up an hour late, acting the diva

fp_4038567_ang_carey_cannon_111709

Mariah Carey has made a big deal about how she’s not really a diva and how the epic stories about her are ridiculous urban legends. Problem is, after she said that, she continued being a diva. Makes it a little hard to buy her hype. Mariah showed up an hour late for London’s “This Morning” show. She once famously cancelled an appearance on a breakfast show claiming she’s “not a morning person.” Ridiculous. And that “argument” doesn’t even hold here, since Mariah’s appearance was being pre-taped in the afternoon.

He has a reputation as one of the most mild mannered presenters on television. But even Phillip Schofield lost his patience following an appearance by notorious diva Mariah Carey on This Morning. The singer had agreed to be interviewed and perform her new single on the morning chat show, but infuriated Schofield and his co-presenter Holly Willoughby by turning up an hour late. She was due to arrive at 1pm but crew were left waiting around while Miss Carey, 40, - who once cancelled an appearance on a breakfast radio show saying she was ‘not a morning person’ - made her way from her hotel.

She finally arrived at 2pm - but not before Schofield had posted a series of irate messages on his personal Twitter page, which currently has 300,000 followers. Thankfully the show was not being filmed live. It was pre-recorded on Monday afternoon and will go out next Thursday. But he wrote at 1.15pm: ‘Sitting here twiddling our thumbs waiting for Mariah Carey.. la la la laaa.’

Half an hour later he sarcastically wrote: ‘Her people have arrived!’ Although there was still no sign of Miss Carey. He added: ‘Think I will give her until two o’clock.’ But he was further angered when, after finally arriving at the studios she delayed proceedings further by changing her mind over what outfit to wear. A clearly frustrated Schofield then wrote: ‘She’s changing her mind about what she’s wearing!!!!!’

When the interview was over, the presenter then said that she had apologised for her behaviour. He messaged fans saying: ‘She was subtly apologetic for being an hour late and yes, an entourage the size of Denmark’.

However, there was one last hiccup before Carey left the building. Schofield, who had earlier taken a picture of the star to upload to his Twitter page, was told by her publicity team that Mariah wanted to approve the picture first and banned the shocked presenter from using it. He wrote: ‘Going to be a delay in the posting of the Mariah pic I’m afraid. Her people have asked for picture approval. Nicely predictable eh?’

[From the Daily Mail]

It’s vintage Mariah. You’re supposed to be thrilled if she shows up at all. Honestly I could deal with the hour late, and would probably expect that of most celebrities. Especially with Mariah’s reputation. But the whole debating over the outfit at the last minute thing would really push me over the edge. And if she’s got an entourage the size of Denmark, you’d think someone could get it together enough to make sure she’s got the outfit figured out beforehand. I would bet you anything that even though it was 2 o’clock in the afternoon, this was still Mariah’s first activity of the day, which is probably why she was so late and disorganized. Perhaps seeing the play-by-play documented on Twitter will make her a little more mindful of why people call her a diva.

Mariah Carey calls music execs “idiots” for failing to take advantage of Internet

fp_4020041_goff_carey_mariah2_111509

Mariah Carey is fuming at the short-sighted, small-minded record execs who failed to harness the potential of the internet for downloading music. She cited artists like Prince, who sold his music online long before anyone else. Mariah flat-out called them idiots and stupid (though at least she didn’t name names) and pointed out that they’re supposed to be intelligent, powerful people. Instead they proved they’re hardly innovative.

MARIAH CAREY has blamed music industry bosses for failing to spot the internet download trend - accusing record labels of letting their artists down by allowing illegal file-sharing to become commonplace.

Carey is adamant label bosses should have realised the potential of the internet a long time before illicit song swapping became prevalent, and she’s furious because the practise means many musicians lose out on precious royalty money.

The Hero hitmaker insists that although record labels are slowly beginning to grasp the potential of the internet, they will never be able to repair the damage done by illegal downloads, because many consumers now feel entitled to get their music for free.

She says, “Frickin’ idiots! A lot of big, powerful music industry executives made a giant mistake and now we’re all paying the price. They gave the music business away on the internet. If they had just sat back and said, ‘Maybe let’s figure this internet thing out, it could be something cool,’ we could have found a way to distribute music online on our own terms, not somebody else’s.

“Prince had already shown them the way. He was so far ahead of the curve, putting his records out on the web. Everyone else was stupid.”

[From Contact Music]

I don’t blame any musician for being pissed that their music is being given away for free. I don’t think the solution is to alienate their fans – remember when Metallica sued the fans who downloaded their music? But musicians work hard on creating their songs. No matter how much money they do or don’t have, it’s their work product and the deserve to be compensated.

Though the RIAA spent a great many years suing the pants off people who shared music for free, it hasn’t helped artists, who now have a serious problem selling music. If the record companies had created a large, legitimate venue for music downloads before – or even right after – Napster and other file-swapping programs became a hit, they could have saved their profits. But now that people have gotten in the habit of downloading music for free, it’s hard to change that mindset. iTunes helped out a lot, but it still took several years from the time file swapping software came out until iTunes had a good collection of music to buy.

All that said, Mariah’s doing alright. She’s super successful so it’s not like she’s hurting. I can’t help but wonder what her goal is with all this. It’s a fair point, but it’s something people were saying a long time ago. I wouldn’t think that randomly pissing off record industry bigwigs would help her out any. I completely see her point, I’m just wondering why.

Mariah Carey dons unflattering swimsuit, talks about abuse in her past

35461pcn_mariah1
Oh, Mimi. What are you doing? It’s November, for goodness sake. Granted, I’m still wearing flip-flops in Virginia, so it‘s probably not that cold in Malibu. But I’m not a diva. And I’m not campaigning for an Oscar. Put some clothes on! Also, Us Weekly put these photos up with a link to a story called “See celebs who are tired of being called fat”. Rude much? Mariah doesn’t look fat to me. She’s curvy. She has a lovely, voluptuous figure. She just needs to learn what clothes are flattering on her figure. Usually she packs herself into some too-tight dress that makes her look like a stuffed sausage, or in this case, a really unflattering halter swimsuit which is cut badly for her figure.

Mariah was filming a music video for her song “H.A.T.E.U.” I’m not sure how Mariah in a halter cut down below her navel really helps, but she may be trying to convince us that she’s not pregnant? While she was on last night’s Larry King Live (full transcript here), Larry asked her about the pregnancy rumors. Mariah replied: “Right now? I’m going to take a swig of my scotch and let you know… [being pregnant] would be the happiest thing in my life, but what I’m saying is right now with this movie [Precious] coming out, with the next few singles from the album and those things that I’m doing, I need to focus on that because I cannot do the having-a-child thing halfway.”

Mariah also admitted to Larry that she had been “emotionally, mentally” abused in relationships, saying: “Well, it’s scary…You know, I just think you get into a situation, and you feel locked in if your situation is similar to one of the situations that I’ve been in which I won’t harp on.” Larry asked, “No, you don’t have to, but it is hard to get out?” Mariah replied: “For me, to really get out it was difficult because there was a connection that was not only a marriage but a business thing where the person was in control of my life,” Carey added. Good Lord, is she talking about her first husband Tommy Mottola? I’ve read interviews with Mariah before where she alluded to the idea that Mottola was a very controlling man, but I’ve never heard her allude to Mottola being abusive. Interesting.

Here’s more from the Larry King interview:

Mariah Carey on her ‘Precious’ role: “I drank some ugly juice”

wenn2638568

It’s no secret that Mariah Carey wasn’t a big fan of her styling for the film Precious. From the clips and promotional images I’ve seen, Mariah is wearing a fug wig, little to no makeup, and they even gave her a little mustache. This is Mariah’s chance at Oscar, and she knows that Oscar loves when a woman uglies it up. So she’ll campaign for her Oscar like a good girl (and unlike Mo’Nique, who seems to be pulling a diva act so hard, she probably won’t even get a nomination, much less an Oscar). Mariah’s heart is in this campaign - but she’s still going to let everyone know how unhappy she was with how horrible they made her look.

When Mariah appeared on Oprah back in September, she even dropped the f-bomb when she described all of the crap director Lee Daniels did to her to make her look horrible: “I didn’t even know what to do, man. I was like, ‘This is so ugly, I don’t know what to do.’ He put dark stuff under my eyes, he … put fluorescent lighting, the most hideous lighting. Some people had the most beautiful, angelic lighting, and I looked at Lee like, ‘You motherf-cker, why did you do this to me?” Mariah echoed the same sentiments (minus the f-bomb) when she spoke to Us Weekly on the red carpet of the Hollywood premiere:

Mimi — a.k.a. Mariah Carey — doesn’t enjoy being emancipated from her glamorous self.
The singer returns to acting in the buzzed-about gritty drama Precious, playing an 80s-era hard-knock social worker named Mrs. Weiss. And her look in the film — bad hair, dowdy clothes, even a faint mustache — is as far from fabulous as she’s ever been.

“It wasn’t just de-glamorized,” Carey, 40, told Usmagazine.com at Sunday’s Precious premiere at Mann’s Theater in Hollywood. “They added some hideousness on top of that too. I drank some ugly juice,” she said, laughing.

It’s not the first time the music star has told Us about the humbling experience, either. At a Precious event in Toronto Sept. 13, she noted “I couldn’t even look in the mirror! It was tough.”

Gabourey Sidibe, Precious’ young star, told Us in Toronto that Carey “hated” her time in the makeup truck. “She hated her wardrobe! It was the funniest thing. Like the first day of school or something, where you’re not wearing the right socks and the whole outfit’s ruined.”

“I wouldn’t let her look at herself!” added the film’s director Lee Daniels. “She just trusted me. I knew she was serious [about her performance].”

But once filming was through, Carey used her beauty school education to make things right again. “I just dealt with hair first — I have my own little tricks!”

[From Us Weekly]

Mariah also spoke to People Magazine about her fug “transformation” - and she goes off again! Mariah told People: “I felt completely rancid!” Mariah also said that the unglamorous look helped with her diva behavior: “I didn’t have to feel compelled to be always glamorous. With the music industry, it’s very like ‘Oh, she’s got a hair out of place! Go fix it!’ And so this was such a liberating experience and yet humiliated me. But I needed that. We all need that. We all need to understand how to be humble, and it’s a difficult business to do that in.” No! Mariah can’t be humble! I only love her because she’s an insufferable diva!

I pray to God that Mariah gets a slew of nominations for Precious, just because her campaign will be amazing and hilarious. I want her to get thousands of questions about her sh-tty styling, about her mustache, about her awful wig. I want Mariah to try to convince us over and over again that she’s not a diva. I want all of this just because I think it would be hilarious. For me. Not for Mariah. Motherf-ckers.

LaineyGossip put up this incredible 16-minute interview with Mariah, conducted by B. Scott. It’s kind of insane how far Mariah is stuck up her own ass, but it’s kind of cool too:

Nick Cannon wants to dress up as Ike Turner for Halloween

infphoto_1097403

Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon each may be going their own way with their Halloween costumes this year. Unlike last year, when they dressed up as fireskanks. How precious. No, this year Nick wants to go as Ike Turner. He claims it’s an homage. However Mariah is refusing to go as Tina, for fear that she’ll offend the legend.

MARIAH Carey’s husband Nick Cannon has revealed his plans for Halloween — he’ll be dressing up as Ike Turner!

The America’s Got Talent host said he thought it would be a great idea to dress up as the late musician — but his superstar wife is less than impressed and won’t be following suit by dressing up as Tina Turner.

“I want to be Ike and Tina, but she [Carey] doesn’t want to offend Tina Turner.” Cannon said. “I think it’s an honor.”

Ike — who reportedly died of a cocaine overdose in 2007 — became known more for his stormy relationship with former wife Tina than his music.

In his 2001 autobiography, he admitted, “Sure, I’ve slapped Tina… There have been times when I punched her to the ground without thinking. But I have never beat her.”

[From Showbiz Spy]

Unlike a lot of people, I actually like Nick Cannon. But I’m going to have to side firmly with Mariah. Read that last quotation from Ike’s book for reason enough. Frankly Ike is remembered as three things, in this order: 1) Tina Turner’s husband; 2) the man who beat Tina Turner (or punched her to the ground, since apparently that was an important distinction to Ike) and 3) a singer. I think I was at least 18 years old before I knew Ike Turner was a singer, though I’d heard of him plenty of times. I mistakenly thought he was just her volatile manager. Unless Nick goes around singing Ike Turner songs (and I’m not saying he wouldn’t), I think people are going to see him as dressing up as Ike 1 and 2, and not Ike 3.

And I’ll just point out that whenever Mariah Carey is the more logical one in a debate, it might be time to really look hard at yourself. Just a thought.

Mariah “I’m not a diva” Carey acting like a diva on tour

fp_3209893_carey_asman_nyc_062909

Yesterday Mariah Carey made a big deal about dispelling the longstanding belief that she’s a total diva. Unfortunately, while her words said one thing, her actions said another: she’s still a total diva. In fact MSNBC has a detailed article about the ridiculous lengths Carey’s staff has to go to in order to ensure she’s constantly protected (security sweeps before concerts, none of the venue’s own staff allowed in), given access to proper stylists (demanding six figures for her hair and makeup people alone), and generally catered to at all times. But don’t worry, she’s not some crazy diva.

Mariah Carey is not without flaws, as evidenced by the title of her new album “Confessions of an Imperfect Angel,” but her behavior on her current publicity tour is calling into question the veracity of the angelic claim as well.

“Her security is doing walk-throughs of her performance locations prior to her appearances, as if she’s the president or something,” said one person who was present at one such sweep.

It’s even more intense on the day of a Carey performance, says the source. “She’ll show up with more than a dozen people on her team, and she’s been asking that the people who actually work there are removed from the floor and only her staffers be present,” said the source, who adds that the demand is not always met.

The level of high maintenance Carey is displaying while promoting both “Imperfect Angel” and her new film, “Precious”, didn’t surprise one person, who has worked with Carey in the past.

“We were paying for her travel, her expenses, and yet she still wanted to be compensated nearly six figures just for hair and makeup,” said the source.

[From MSNBC]

I imagine bomb sniffing dogs and security guys hanging from the rafters, all in an attempt to make sure Mariah is totally safe at any given moment. I understand having security, and I understand being worried when you’re famous. But is Mariah Carey really the biggest target? Unless some person were forced to sit through Glitter, I doubt they actually hold a homicidal grudge against her.

Mariah is still on the baby talk circuit. Meaning all she’s doing is chatting up the potential children that she and Nick Cannon want to have, while insisting she’s not pregnant. It’s starting to get a little annoying – if you want to have kids, then have them already! Stop telling us about your secret baby names and all this hypothetical nonsense.

Mariah Carey has given the biggest hint yet that she’s planning to become a mom — she’s been choosing baby names with her husband Nick Cannon!

The singer insists she isn’t pregnant — but she is prepared.

“We have to keep the name secret because if we told everybody, then somebody might use it and then we have to change it, and then it wouldn’t be as good,” she said Tuesday on SIRIUS XM’s Morning Mash Up. “We picked these names out a long time ago.”

[From Showbiz Spy]

In that same article Mariah also claims she likes to go out in public disguised in Nick’s clothes. I’m sorry, but I bet I could count on one hand the number of times I’ve seen Mariah in anything other than a too-short lycra-infuse dress. We’ve just gone over all the ways in which Mariah is not low maintenance. Are we really supposed to buy that she’s in Nick’s jeans and a t-shirt? But remember, this is the new Mariah. The low key, relaxed, down to earth Mariah. She loves babies and puppies and big fuzzy sweatshirts. As long as they’re all custom made with pink diamonds. Dogs included.

Here’s Mariah dressed like a man while filming the music video for “Obsessed” on June 29th. She seems to be a natural, maybe she wasn’t BSing. Images thanks to Fame Pictures .

Mariah Carey says she’s not a diva

precious premiere 2 051009

Throughout Mariah Carey’s long career, there have been rumors of insane diva behavior. There’s the infamous one about how she only eats blue M&Ms. Really, her demands have become the stuff of urban legends. A quick google provide the following supposed ridiculous demands:

• Mariah has been known to have 11 bodyguards surround her restaurant table so diners can’t see her eat.
• When signing autographs this week at Selfridges department store, Mariah demanded a £50,000 antique table, covered with silk cloth, to scribble upon, flown in from New York. She sat on a £1,000 throne and was surrounded by roses and butterflies.
• Mariah has a steamy time in the bedroom … but it’s got nothing to do with her sex-life. As part of her obsessive campaign to preserve her all-important vocal cords, she insists on maintaining rainforest levels of humidity.
• She insists on wearing high heels at all times, and has even been filmed in her stilettos while using her home-gym equipment. “I can’t wear flat shoes,” she sighs. “My feet repel them.”
• She only consumes soft drinks through a straw and insists on these being available whenever she makes a personal appearance. She even has people to hold her drink as she sips.

[From the Daily Mail]

However Mariah says that this is all ridiculous and just rumors that have gotten out of hand. She doesn’t say she’s down to earth by any means, but rather that she’s a lot more normal than people think.

MARIAH CAREY insists her “diva” behaviour has been blown out of proportion - critics just to make up stories about her odd mannerisms. The Hero hitmaker has been dogged by claims she is a prima donna throughout her career, with countless bizarre allegations of her backstage demands, but she is adamant the reports are untrue - brushing off rumours she only eats blue M&Ms and once snubbed a hotel because she wasn’t greeted with flowers upon her arrival.

She says, “I try not to be a jerk. I really do. I try to be nice and cordial. I’ve seen the real extreme diva behaviour and I don’t think that’s who I am.

“I think I have mannerisms and that whole thing, and I’m running around in these shoes. But even before I had any type of fame, I was like this. Seriously.

“I don’t even eat (M&Ms)… They said I wouldn’t come into a hotel unless there were petals on the floor. I’m like, ‘Do you really think at 3am I give a s**t what I’m walking on?’”

[From Contact News]

I definitely believe that last one. But I think she’s also doing quite the PR campaign between her praised role in “Precious” (she’s even gotten Oscar buzz) and her talking on and on about babies with Nick Cannon. I think she’s trying to soften her image and appear more grounded. But if that’s the case, it would serve her well to acknowledge that she used to have diva moments and then say something about how she’s matured or something. Because she definitely used to. Because that straw in the soda held by an assistant thing? There’s photographic evidence.

Mo’Nique’s diva act might ruin her Oscar chances for ‘Precious’
The 2009 BET Hip Hop Awards Nominees

One of the early contenders for a major Oscar campaign this year is a little film called Precious. Precious debuted at Sundance to glowing reviews, and just showed at the Toronto Film Festival, once again to rapturous praise. It’s based on the novel Push, by Sapphire, and the film is produced by two of the heaviest hitters out there, Tyler Perry and Oprah Winfrey. Oprah will be promoting Precious heavily, I think. She’s already had Mariah Carey on her show - that was the episode where Mariah dropped the “motherf-cker” bomb live.

According to IMBD, the film is about: “Claireece Precious Jones endures unimaginable hardships in her young life. Abused by her mother, raped by her father, she grows up poor, angry, illiterate, fat, unloved and generally unnoticed. So what better way to learn about her than through her own, halting dialect.” Precious is played by Gabourey ‘Gabby’ Sidibe, with Mariah Carey and Mo’Nique in the supporting roles. All three of those actresses have been pegged for Oscar nominations already - with many critics promoting Mo’Nique as the film’s best chance for an Oscar win. Unfortunately, Mo’Nique doesn’t want to do the extensive publicity rounds involved in a serious Oscar campaign - at least, not without getting paid:

Breakout star Mo’Nique isn’t considered that “precious” by executives at Lionsgate, which produced her forthcoming film. In fact, insiders are saying the 41-year-old comedian’s bad attitude and shameless demands for money may jeopardize her chance for Oscar glory - all this before the highly anticipated movie opens on Nov. 6.

The star was MIA Saturday night at the New York Film Festival premiere of the buzzworthy flick “Precious.” She also allegedly ditched her promotional duties during the Toronto Film Festival when she was denied a $100,000 appearance fee.

“That money didn’t even include hair and makeup costs. She also demanded that her glam squad fly first class,” sniped an incredulous industry source. “Apparently, she’s ignorant as to how the Hollywood system works.”

According to our snitch, exasperated studio chiefs suggested that executive producer Oprah Winfrey get involved to deflate Mo’Nique’s substantial ego, but even O couldn’t stop the actress from seeing green.

“Mo’Nique said she signed on to do this film for a small amount of money. She said she didn’t care about ‘no Oscar’ - all that mattered was ‘those Benjamins!’ Because Oprah and Tyler Perry are backing the film, she feels as though there should be a budget to pay for her promotional duties,” the source explains.

But the star’s attitude is starting to work against her. Winfrey and Tyler have reportedly instructed Lionsgate to put their promotional machine behind fellow stars Mariah Carey and Gabby Sidibe for the Oscar race. Those two are adept at playing the game; both turned up in New York and Toronto to push the film for free (although Carey, left, was 30 minutes late to Saturday’s Alice Tully Hall premiere and entered to boos from the audience in response to her tardiness).

“When people say, ‘You care more about money than winning an Oscar,’ well, what does an Oscar mean? An Oscar means more work when you win it, and that means more money!” retorts Mo’Nique in response to the allegations. “I couldn’t eat that Oscar. Everybody needs money, baby. That’s how we survive, right?”

Reps for Winfrey, Tyler and Lionsgate declined to comment, but the film’s director, Lee Daniels, was quick to say, “Mo’Nique is not a diva. She puts her soul into whatever she does. I love her very much.”

He does add, however, that “doing the press is hard for her because she’s in the moment.”

[From Gatecrasher]

Well, I can see both sides to this argument - somebody should be paying for Mo’Nique to make some appearances because there is a lot of money floating around for this extensive Oscar campaign - and it seems like the producers are holding out on Mo’Nique just because she’s not, say, Beyonce. That being said, Mo’Nique should totally tread lightly - pissing off Oprah and Tyler Perry won’t get her anywhere. And it does sound like she has absolutely no idea how Hollywood and/or a major Oscar campaign works. Maybe instead of sniping at each other in the press, someone could sit down and really explain this stuff to Mo’Nique. Something along the lines of “Seriously, Kate Winslet didn’t even get the sh-t you’re asking for. Grow up.”

Mariah Carey performing on Today and looking a little pregnant

Visit msnbc.com for Breaking News, World News, and News about the Economy

Mariah Carey performed her latest single “Obsessed” on The Today Show this morning, and she looked a little pregnant. Though I guess you can’t be a little pregnant. It could be a bit of weight gain, since Mariah does tend to fluctuate. Earlier this week Mariah told In Touch all about how much she and husband Nick Cannon want to have kids. She could have been setting the stage for a baby announcement soon – but frankly they’ve been talking about kids since they got married. Discussing it at length in an interview and nothing coming of it isn’t that out of the question for them.

Mariah was also on The Today Show on Tuesday to promote the release of her latest album, “Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel.” It’s her twelfth studio album, and she’s had 18 number one hits - second highest right after the Beatles. Celebitchy pointed out that she was moving a bit slowly when she was singing, but if you check out her other videos that’s not unusual for her. She seemed exceptionally happy and glowy, which is so scientifically accurate it’s nearly the same as having Mariah’s positive pregnancy test in front of you. Really, when she seemed the happiest in both interviews was when she was talking about Nick. It’s clear they genuinely love each other, and though I was definitely one of the skeptics when they first got together, they’re now one of my favorite celeb couples.

Nick has made no secret of his desire to have kids, and while Mariah had previously said she didn’t want any, she seems to have quickly changed her tune after meeting him. Considering how clearly in love with him she is, I wouldn’t be surprised if this time it’s legit. Though it would have been great if she timed it to coincide with the release of her album, like she did with her latest perfume.

Here’s Mariah Carey performing on the ‘Today Show’s Summer Concert Series’ at Rockefeller Plaza this morning, and with Nick afterwards. Images thanks to WENN.com .
