When I think of Ashlee Simpson and Vincent Piazza’s relationship, I will forever remember her at the SAG Awards earlier this year as his guest, trying to pull focus during the red carpet interviews with that baby voice of hers. (I looked forever for that E! interview but couldn’t find a video of it, which just goes to show how important either of them are.) Vincent is of course on Boardwalk Empire, and Ashlee is a singer of some note, known more for getting caught lip syncing and being Jessica Simpson’s less famous sister. So their relationship ran its course after about a year and a half, which seems to be the expiration date on a lot of relationships, doesn’t it? The NY Post has the official news, couched in the context of Vincent being away “working” a lot, which is guy code for “I want out.” Here’s more:

Ashlee Simpson and her boyfriend, “Boardwalk Empire” star Vincent Piazza, have split after nearly 1 1/2 years of dating, Page Six has exclusively learned. The singer and Piazza broke up over the Thanksgiving holiday, sources tell us, after his burgeoning career kept them apart. One source told us, “Vincent has been working a lot, so he hasn’t been able to spend as much time with Ashlee, which has caused some problems. It was a mutual agreement to split, but things have been bumpy for a little while, so perhaps they might reconcile.” Simpson began dating Piazza in June 2011, following her split with Pete Wentz, the father of her 3-year-old son, Bronx.

Well it’s sad for Ashlee, especially given the fact that her dad is a closeted cheater who is in the process of divorcing her mom. Who would have thought that Jessica Simpson would have the healthiest relationship among her family members? That’s probably just a testament to how dysfunctional this family is.

On a side note, are you guys still watching Boardwalk Empire? I don’t remember many scenes with Piazza this season, but maybe he’s just skilled at blending in. Honestly I haven’t been paying full attention to it and gave up after a handful of episodes this year. When this happened (mouse over for spoiler for past show) Gillian killed that young guy who somewhat resembled her missing, dead son with whom she had an incestuous relationship I got upset and quit watching. Maybe those kind of shock scenes are what make the show so good, but it’s really taking some creepy turns lately.

Here’s what I feel I know for sure about the Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber breakup: I know that Selena broke up with Justin. I know that Selena wants everyone to know that she broke up with Justin. I know that Selena wants everybody to know that she didn’t and doesn’t trust Justin. I also know that they are still so very, very young and that this isn’t the first breakup they’ve had, but this is simply the most hyper-dramatic breakup they’ve had.

So, after Selena dumped Justin last week, she went around making sure every outlet reported that she did the dumping. Then Justin gave an interview to a radio station and the poor boy sounded so confused and like he was going to try to win her back. And then Selena flew to New York, which is where Bieber is now.

Singing through the heartache? During a Boston concert on Saturday night, Justin Bieber summoned another world-famous Justin — Timberlake — in a potential nod to his fresh split with Selena Gomez.

Armed with just a guitar, with another band member strumming as well, the 18-year-old singer crooned a stripped-down, acoustic version of “Cry Me a River,” Justin Timberlake’s smash 2002 ballad inspired by his own split from Britney Spears.

The Canadian-born sensation left it vague when asked about the split with Gomez, 20, during a radio interview that same day.” I don’t know what to say,” Bieber, 18, told Open House Party radio host John Garabedian. “I don’t know what’s going on in my life . . . To even assess that it doesn’t make sense ’cause I have not made any comment.”

The poor boy is so confused! He doesn’t know what hit him! That’s GOMEZ THUNDER, boy. Selena has wrecked him. So, why did she do it? Is she playing some angle? Will they get back together? Hollywood Life reports that Justin and Selena met up at her hotel in NYC on Sunday, and after spending some time at the hotel (approximately 2 hours), they went out to dinner at Morandi. They did not go to dinner alone – they were joined by Alfredo Flores (Justin’s BFF) and Priscilla Deleon (Selena’s cousin).

Interestingly enough, a source told Page Six yesterday, “Justin and Selena had been fighting and on the verge of a breakup for about six months. She was constantly calling and checking on him when they were apart. It was causing a lot of tension between them.” Hunh. Interesting push-back – and I kind of believe it too. I think it’s all true – Selena had trust issues and she was constantly checking in on Justin to see if he was fooling around (he probably was) and she got to a point where enough was enough. But will they get back together? God knows. But I do enjoy the way Selena is playing it. I love this girl!

I realize you don’t give a sh*t about these people, and neither do I, but it’s still fun to point and laugh. Tattoo artist and reality star Kat Von D has been dating celebrity DJ Deadmau5 for just a few weeks, and she moves super fast. I say this with somewhat certainty because there are staged paparazzi photos of her holding hands with her last “boyfriend,” a British rapper named Scroobius Pip, in late June of this year. So Kat Von D and DeadMau5, who you might know as the guy who picks fights with Madonna regularly (not Elton John’s husband), were regularly seen on loved-up paparazzi outings the past couple of months. Here we have but a sampling of recent photos of these two. There are a million photos of them. It’s like every time they stepped out of the house Kat called the paps.

On September 16, DeadMau5 even tweeted that he was “in love,” writing “Yeah, im love… inb4 I find a f*k to give over the Internet implodes over it at least I’m happy! Lol” Less than two months later and their love has died. Of course both of them took to twitter to share their complicated feelings of pain, loss and confusion. Just kidding, Kat was bitter and Deadmau5 probably cheated.

Cat’s out of the bag: Kat Von D and DJ Deadmau5 are a couple no more.

The creative couple pulled the plug on their brief relationship over the weekend, announcing their split on Twitter and adding in their own choice commentary on the matter.

“Man … can’t say I didn’t give it my best,” Von D wrote Saturday, followed shortly afterward with: “Man I sure was wrong. But at least he made it a no-brainer to break that off #lessonlearned.”

Just in case her followers still didn’t get her drift, however, the 30-year-old tattoo artist spelled it out in plain terms.

“Clarification: Deadmau5 and I are no longer together,” she tweeted.

Von D and the DJ, whose real name is Joel Zimmerman, reportedly began dating in September after meeting at a party.

“Now, we can get all of the ‘I told you so’s’ out of the way … and move on,” she quipped.

The 31-year-old musician didn’t keep quiet about the breakup either, but owned up to his supposed mistakes and acknowledged the split.

“Going to spend a little while screwing my head back on,” he wrote. “I guess im not cut out for relationships right now. and that’s all i really want to dwell on it right now.

“I’ll figure it out. no hard feelings.”

Deadmau5 continued to keep things cryptic, later adding: “it happened too fast, i lost my balance and fell into a familiar dark place that im having difficulty with. she deserves someone stronger.”

Von D was previously linked to Sandra Bullock’s cheating, tattooed ex Jesse James.

The pair were engaged to be married in January 2011, but amid rumors that James was cheating on Von D, they ultimately ended their engagement and their relationship in September 2011.

That Deadmau5 guy sounds like the more mature party, and I would bet Kat smothered him. Not to apply a female stereotype to her, but look at how often she was getting papped with him. She did the same thing with Jesse James and was ready to marry the guy before it dawned on her that he was a serial cheater. It took her long enough to figure it out. I would say that this relationship just ran it’s course after running too hot and too fast, but Perez Hilton is reporting that Deadmau5 may have cheated on Kat. Perez points to some tweets between Deadmau5 and a Disney actress named Chelsea Kane (she was also on DWTS in 2010) in which she tweets “Waking up to you fanning me with your ear almost made it all worth it. Thank you. ” Then Kat got pissed and tweeted an @ message to Chelsea “@ChelseaKane are you f*king serious? F*k off with that.” Deadmau5 kind of admitted it was true, tweeting “@ChelseaKane glad I could lend an ear feel better!” hahaha! So did Kat get cheated on and did she find out through Twitter? I would say that was harsh, but I really don’t give a crap about her. It will be about two weeks before she’s getting papped holding some new guy’s hand.

It was in the air last week… everywhere you turned, it seemed like there was a rumor about Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber and how they had maybe broken up. I didn’t want to believe it! After all, there had been plenty of breakup rumors before. And Justin and Selena had always pulled through. But not anymore. On Thursday and Friday, there were several reports about Bieber flirting with all of the young models at the Victoria’s Secret show (where he performed), and he even went to see The Lion King with Hungarian VS model Barbara Palvin (she’s 19 years old). There were some tweet-recriminations and tweet-shade, and by Friday afternoon, sources had confirmed that Bieber and Selena broke up.

What’s funny/interesting is that it seems like – and this is just a theory! – that Selena Gomez went around to media outlets, making sure that she got HER side of the breakup story out first. People Magazine’s “source” said: “She broke up with him about a week ago. With them being apart so much it got complicated. She had some trust issues. It’s not easy, but the relationship needed to end.” Suspiciously enough, Us Weekly got a similar-sounding quote from a source: “Selena broke up with Justin about a week ago. It’s been a really challenging experience over the last year because of their crazy schedules. Selena definitely had some major trust issues with Justin.”

Both “sources” using the dreaded “trust issues” excuse… it could be that the source isn’t particularly Team Selena or Team Bieber, but I still think it’s coming from Selena. I think she’s putting out the “trust issues” thing specifically so we’ll think, “Oh, I bet she had a REASON to have trust issues, she probably found out he was bangin’ someone else.” Like, the aim is to make Selena look sympathetic, like she was the victim of Justin’s wandering wang and she had to break up with him because she doesn’t want to be mistreated. It’s not the worst strategy. But don’t ask me, I was always going to be Team Selena. I like that girl a lot. Always have! TEAM SELENA 4 EVA!!!

Well, this is an interesting turn of events! Us Weekly claims that Conor Kennedy (18) and Taylor Swift (22) are OVER. Conor, a junior at Deerfield Prep School, was having issues with finding time to spend with his superstar girlfriend. Us Weekly doesn’t say who split with whom, or who was the one to say, “Maybe we should take a break or something.” But I’m guessing that it was Conor? Because Swifty was no longer available to sign him out of school to have sex with him at a quaint bed & breakfast.

Let the songwriting begin. After an intense couple months of dating, Taylor Swift and Conor Kennedy have broken up, a close friend of the country singer confirms exclusively to Us Weekly.

“They quietly parted ways a while ago,” the friend explains of the “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” crooner, 22, and the high school senior, 18. “It was just a distance thing. No hard feelings. They’re fine.”

First spotted with the six-time Grammy winner at the Kennedy family compound in Hyannisport, MA in July, Conor is the son of Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. and the late Mary Kennedy. But despite Swift’s speedy summertime bond with her new man and his brood, the romance had to take a backseat to Swift’s work duties. (Her new album, Red, was just released this week with record-breaking sales and widespread critical acclaim.)

“It’s been over a month since they’ve even seen each other,” the friend explains. “With her promotion for Red, she has no time off until the end of the year.”

Oooh, this is a decent scandal that is not wholly unexpected. I mean, I was kind of shocked when I read this headline, and yet it made some kind of sense to me. Russell Crowe and his wife of nine years, Danielle Spencer, have separated. They have two sons together, Charles and Tennyson. Right now, the explanation given for the split is his schedule – he’s been working a lot lately, and he has even more films to come. But is it ever that simple? Put another way: do you buy that Russell Crowe – with his sometimes sordid romantic history – would split up with his wife because he was working too much?

Gladiator actor Russell Crowe and his wife of nine years, Danielle Spencer, have separated, according to a report in Sydney today. The 48-year-old Oscar-winning actor and his 43-year-old singer wife have gone their separate ways, with Crowe turning his undivided attention to his acting career after the split, said the report.

The couple, who have two children – Charles and Tennyson, aged eight and six – have parted on friendly terms, the children remaining with Miss Spencer while her now-estranged husband continues filming the biblical epic Noah in the US.

The report has come as a shock to showbusiness circles in Australia because the couple were regarded as a having a strong marriage despite the demands of their careers, with New Zealand-born Crowe in constant demand for film roles while his wife, whose mother is English, has managed caring for the children as well as singing and appearing on Australian TV.

They were married in a chapel on Crowe’s farm in the hamlet of Nana Glen, in northern New South Wales, in 2003, following which they lived in a penthouse on the shores of Sydney harbour before moving into a £6 million mansion in the posh harbourside suburb of Rose Bay.

The Sydney Morning Herald, which broke the news of the split today, said Miss Spencer was the quiet, unassuming woman who tamed the Gladiator with her calm and steady nature. She once said of her husband’s fame and fortune that ‘all that stuff has nothing to do with me as a person.’

Despite the general belief that they were a strongly-bonded couple, some critics were surprised to note that Miss Spencer had been photographed on a night out with Damian Whitewood, her dance partner in a tv show, Dancing With the Stars, a few months ago. Crowe made a big point of dismissing rumours about their relationship later when he gave his wife a lingering kiss in front of the cameras at Sydney airport.

But the demands of his acting career have kept him away from Miss Spencer for much of this year. He has also missed most of the games of the Sydney rugby league club in which he has a financial interest and has left his wife to care for their children. He has six films coming out in the next 12 months – Man with the Iron Fist, Les Miserables, Broken City, Superman, Noah and the Winter’s Tale.

The couple met 22 years ago on the set of the movie The Crossing, but before developing his relationship with Miss Spencer he had a much publicised romance with Meg Ryan. He said of Miss Spencer after their marriage that the thought of marrying her had crossed his mind the first time he had met her. Miss Spencer was careful with her words when her husband was involved in a phone-throwing incident in a New York hotel seven years ago after he was unable to get through to her.

‘I’m not condoning his behaviour,’ she said. ‘I don’t want to make excuses for him because I’m certainly not. But I do understand when you’re apart that the loneliness kicks in.’

Does anyone else watch It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia? It’s not one of my can’t-miss favorites or anything, but it’s funnier than most of the network comedies on TV right now, and Danny DeVito is great on the show – he plays the crazy, perverted criminal patriarch to a band of losers. I always thought that DeVito’s casting on the show was kind of genius – even though Danny has played a lot of losers and malcontents in his career, most people have the warm-fuzzies for him whenever they see him, and the IASIP character subverts that. Anyway, it turns out that Danny might actually be kind of sleazy in real life. Following the announcement that Danny and his wife of 30 years, Rhea Perlman, were separating, Radar claims that Danny’s had a wandering eye for YEARS. Gross.

Well, it’s official now. Chris Brown confirmed to Us Weekly that he and Karrueche Tran are over. I assumed as much yesterday, when I discussed the reports that Chris and Rihanna had been hooking up in the bathroom of a NYC club. To be fair, I think Chris and Rihanna have been hooking up this whole time, maybe off and on for a year and a half or so. And Karrueche stuck by him, perhaps thinking that she was the one Chris really loved or whatever. Also: it kind of sounds like Chris dumped Karrueche, and he did it FOR Rihanna.

Chris Brown is officially back on the market. After a complicated year-long romance, the “Don’t Wake Me Up” singer, 23, and aspiring model Karrueche Tran have ended their romance.

“I have decided to be single to focus on my career,” Brown tells Us Weekly. “I love Karrueche very much but I don’t want to see her hurt over my friendship with Rihanna. I’d rather be single allowing us to both be happy in our lives.”

Indeed, Tran, 23, entered the public spotlight in February of this year –after Us Weekly broke news that Brown was secretly hooking up with his most famous ex-girlfriend Rihanna, 24. “She definitely chased Chris, and it worked! He was really into her in the beginning,” a source told Us at the time of the couple.

As reports of Brown and Rihanna’s secret trysts continued to emerge throughout 2012, the two women frequently swapped insults over Twitter; according to sources, Tran has long been aware of Brown’s cheating.

Things came to a head last month, when Brown (who assaulted Rihanna in February 2009) kissed Rihanna on the lips in front of a huge crowd at the MTV Video Music Awards in Los Angeles. The photographed smooch “totally pissed off” Tran, a source told Us.

“She felt the kiss was a public slap in the face . . . Seeing him with Rihanna at such a public event made her very angry.” (Rihanna also opened up about Brown in an emotional Aug. 19 interview with Oprah Winfrey on Oprah’s Next Chapter, calling the singer “the love of my life.”

I know, it’s not like so many of you cared about this story to begin with, but I have an update on the whole “Is Pippa Middleton’s ass of lies trying to steal Chelsea Handler’s boyfriend?” situation. The update is two-fold: one, Chelsea (or her people) confirmed to Page Six this morning that Chelsea and Andre Balazs are OVER, which means that when Andre and Pippa Middleton were spending all of that time together a few weeks ago, it was actually ON. Like, Pippa and Andre might have been hooking up or dating or something. Anyway, here’s Page Six’s Chelsea story. I rolled my eyes a few times:

Chelsea Handler — who’s known for writing about her drunken sexual exploits in best sellers including “My Horizontal Life: A Collection of One-Night Stands” — will riff on the kinky “Fifty Shades of Grey” phenomenon with her latest, which we hear is called “50 Shades of Chartreuse: This Time It’s Personal.”

Sources tell Page Six the “Chelsea Lately” host signed a seven-figure deal for the book with a title poking fun at the E L James trilogy, at the same time she’s upgrading her studio for her E! show by moving into Universal’s digs for the failed “The Tonight Show With Conan O’Brien” experiment.

Handler’s currently single, we’re told, after splitting with high-flying hotelier André Balazs. But it’s unclear whether her new book will catalog their on/off relationship.

The tome’s scheduled to hit bookshelves in October 2013. Handler’s rep declined to comment on the deal with Grand Central Publishing.

Handler’s also written the boozy books “Are You There Vodka? It’s Me, Chelsea” and “Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang.” A watered-down TV series based on “Vodka,” called “Are You There, Chelsea?” was canceled in May. Handler said, “I can’t just throw my name on something and hope everybody gets it.”

Meanwhile, Handler’s moving her “Lately” studio to better and larger digs on the Universal lot, and will broadcast her first show from the revamped studio Oct. 15.

The new studio, part of a $25 million deal signed in November to extend “Chelsea Lately” on E! until 2014, will hold about 250 audience members, up from 75 at the previous studio, and house an adjoining space to film other Handler projects.

While Handler handles business, Balazs was heavily on the prowl in New York City last week during Fashion Week. At the opening of Chez André, André Saraiva’s pop-up club in the Standard East Village, Balazs was spotted “flirting with every girl in the room,” says a spy. “He was dancing with all the women and lost his balance and fell into another girl, at one point, who had to prop him up.”

I’ve heard a lot of gossip about Chelsea and Andre’s on-and-off relationship over the past few years, and from what I can see, they were both utter messes when they together. And Chelsea really, really loved being Andre’s girlfriend, she loved the status and legitimacy it gave her. So… I’ve got to wonder what happened there. I’m sure it was something fascinating, no joke.

As for Chelsea’s book plans… whatever. I think it’s kind of gross and weird that this ’50 Shades’ crap is “inspiring” so many knockoffs and cross-promotional gear, and by “parodying” the 50 Shades franchise, Chelsea just seems cheap, like she’s going for low-hanging fruit, you know? But what else would we expect from a 37-year-old (LOL) party girl?

Here’s your first big shock: Selma Blair is 40 YEARS OLD. I know, right? Vampire! Now for your second big shock: Us Weekly claims that Selma and her baby-daddy are over. Sad, right? Selma and Jason Bleick have apparently called it quits just 14 months after welcoming their son Arthur (he was born July 2011). I’ve always liked Selma, and I grew to like her even more when she kept it real and dropped some hard post-baby truth-bombs. So why would anyone get tired of Selma? She’s fabulous!

Selma Blair is single again. The Anger Management actress, 40, has quietly parted ways with fashion designer boyfriend Jason Bleick, 42, whom she began dating in 2010.

“They were fighting nonstop,” says a source of the duo, parents to 14-month-old Arthur.

Blair and the baby have now moved into a temporary rental in L.A.’s Venice, according to an insider, but Bleick did get some quality time with his son September 8: “Jason met Selma at a restaurant, then took Arthur for a walk by the beach.”

She’s not really an “industry dater” in that she has some long history of getting with dudes with their own celebrity profiles or anything. I think she’s probably more of a misfit, more of unconventional bird than many of us realize. Anyway, I hope Selma is doing okay and I hope she get some work.
