Last week, Kaiser covered a Star story that alleged (in no uncertain terms) that Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale are on the verge of breaking up after a decade of marriage. Strangely enough, Gwen and Gavin have subsequently spent the entirety of this past weekend getting papped out in “happy family” mode with their two children, Kingston and Zuma, starting with a venture to a birthday party as photographed above. Naturally, I feel sort of guilty for jumping to the conclusion that this couple may very well have posed their way through a series of pap-friendly ventures. Still, this seems suspicious, right?

I’ve always really liked Gwen and Gavin as a couple and was a fan of both their respective bands, No Doubt and Bush, back in the 1990s. For many years, they seemed very solid, but Gwen’s had to weather an enormous onslaught of stories about her husband’s past. In her story, Kaiser floated the theory that learning of the drag queen ex, the love child, and the dalliance with Courtney Love may have cumulatively taken its toll on Gwen. Honestly, who could blame any wife for being upset if she in fact learned about these skeletons through the press? Gwen and Gavin dated for close to eight years before getting hitched, and it would be truly terrible if Gavin had kept all of these things from her during the entirety of their relationship.

Another potential source of conflict that I’ve considered while observing them as a couple over the years is that Gwen’s career (including fronting No Doubt, solo albums, and the fashion empire) is far more successful Gavin’s. Sure, they were both rock stars when they got together, but Gavin’s earning potential has cooled significantly ever since Bush broke up over a decade ago. His solo album failed to reach an audience; he’s since gotten the band back together, and they’re heading out for a tour this year. I doubt Bush will ever reach their previous commercial success ever again, and Gavin may secretly resent the fact that she’s the breadwinner in the marriage. While I realize that not all men would feel that way, it’s a possibility.

Gwen and Gavin spent all of Sunday together in front of the cameras as well. First, they went, um, fishing at L.A.’s Troutdale ponds with the boys. Notice that Gwen’s lipstick never wavers.

Then on Sunday evening, Gwen and Gavin took their kids to the playground at Malibu Country Mart. These photos look especially posed, and Gwen doesn’t look happy at all. Maybe she’s just tired after the long weekend in front of all those cameras.

Can you believe that Gavin Rossdale and Gwen Stefani have been together for ten years? That’s kind of amazing, in the celebrity world and the music world. Although there have been some scandals involving Gwen and Gavin, I always think of them as one of the stronger family units around. Of course, I always thought that about Will Smith & Jada too, and they’re probably dunzo. Anyway, over the years, Gwen has had to deal with certain stories about her husband that she may or may not have known about before the stories went public – stuff like Gavin’s “one night stand” (or full-on relationship) with a drag queen named Marilyn, his one night stand with a woman that led to his fathering Daisy Lowe, and his relationship with Courtney Love, which may have overlapped with the start of his relationship with Gwen. And given all of these stories, Gwen and Gavin’s marriage has suffered, and Star Mag claims they’re almost done:

Poor Gwen! Her husband’s dark past and infidelities have lead her to reach a breaking point in love, according to a new report in Star magazine.

Gwen Stefani, 42, and Gavin Rossdale, 46, have been in and out of couple’s therapy trying to repair their marriage, but a source tells the mag that divorce is “inevitable.” And Gwen’s brother, Eric Stefani, 44, also agrees that divorce is possible, according to the new report.

“He’s just not been honest with her about his past,” another source tells the mag.

Two years into the marriage Gwen was hit with Gavin’s first secret — that he had a daughter, Daisy Lowe, now 22, by his ex-girlfriend song-writer/designer Pearl Lowe. And then began the rumors about Gavin’s affairs. In 2009, 80s cross-dresser Peter Robinson — famously known as Marilyn — revealed he had had a short fling with Gavin, before he married Gwen. And in 2010, Gavin confirmed the affair in an interview with Details magazine claiming it was a one-time experimentation when he was 17-years-old.

“That was it. You have to know what you like, and I know what I like,” Gavin said in the Details interview.

Right after Marilyn spoke out, Courtney Love, 47, claimed on the Howard Stern show that she had an eight-month affair with Gavin while he was dating Gwen.

“You mean he was having sex with you while he was with her?” Howard asked.

”Everyone … yeah … and a few other people,” Courtney said to Howard. “We didn’t have a lot of pressure on each other, but we did like each other quite a bit.”

Yikes! With all of these secrets revealed way after the two had married, Gwen now fears what else he has hiding in the closet.

“Gwen often wonders what other secrets Gavin is hiding. It’s getting harder and harder for her to go through the motions with a man she sometimes feels like she doesn’t even know,” a source tells Star.

Gwen and Gavin married in 2002 after meeting in 1995 when their rock bands – No Doubt and Bush — were on tour together, before Gwen turned into a rock star in her own right. Aside from Gavin’s secrets, her newfound success has also caused tension between the two.

“When they got together, it was Gavin who had the big career,” the source tells the mag. But now that the tables have turned and Gwen is more famous than Gavin and that’s “been a really hard journey for him.”

For now, Gavin is preparing to go on tour with his band Bush while Gwen stays at home with their sons, Zuma, 3, and Kingston, 5.

What to say about this? I wouldn’t be upset or shocked if they split up, but it’s going to take more than a ham-fisted Star Magazine story to make me believe that Gavin and Gwen are going to throw away their ten-year marriage. Call me a romantic, but I think they’ve weathered their rough patches rather well, and I think they’ve still got some years left together.

Gwen Stefani was decked out as Cinderella for a party at Kate Hudson’s house over the weekend. She looks like a little girl playing dress up, complete with heavily applied blue eyeshadow, bright pink blush and pink lips. I have to give her credit for taking the look as far as she did, with stacks of necklaces, an updo with a tiara and a feather purse. She really went all out and she’s not hanging out of that outfit too much either. Bitch loves her makeup though, and she put it on with a trowel here.

Here’s Zooey Deschanel barely trying. At first I thought she was Duchess Kate in that outfit, but her hair is all teased out and she’s carrying that fake martini. Radar is claiming she’s “dressed as a woman from the 60s.” Hopefully she had someone specific in mind. This looks like one of those “group costumes” where everyone dresses up around some loosely formed theme and it’s hard to tell exactly who they’re supposed to be unless you see all of them together. They look like they’re having a bachelorette party. (Update: Thanks to those of you who pointed out that they’re supposed to be Valley of The Dolls characters!)

Jessica Alba was a sexy witch. Such a mom costume. Throw on a hat and a wig. It looks like she has a veil with some spiders on it, and she probably tried harder than I’m giving her credit for.

Gwen Stefani owns them all and she knows it. I wonder who her friend is in the hair band costume.

I could have sworn that Gwen Stefani was just recently the cover girl for InStyle, but I must have hallucinated that. She’s the magazine’s November cover girl, and surprisingly enough, I kind of love the photo shoot. Usually I find InStyle’s shoots too airbrushed and not really that stylish, but Gwen looks great here. As I was looking through the photos, I realized how crazy it is that she’s 42. She’s looked the same for more than a decade, and I think she could easily pass for a woman in her late 20s. Maybe it’s all of the makeup. Maybe it’s her youthful spirit. Maybe it’s just great genes. Here are some highlights from the interview:

Gwen on being a mom: “Being a mother is probably the most challenging thing I do.”

Gwen on finding balance: “At work I’ve learned how to delegate. You don’t have to be on a ladder in a warehouse, micromanaging. You can be at home. And teamwork is also such a big part of marriage and parenting.”

On making time for her sons: “The thing I’d like to do is enjoy these boys while they’re young – so I don’t regret I was working too much when they’re big and don’t want to cuddle with me anymore.”

Her trademark blonde: “My hair color is L’Oréal, but I won’t reveal the number. And I do my roots as often as Marilyn Monroe did hers. I’m serious. I found out.”

The one time she went red: “Right after we came home from the first No Doubt tour I felt like I might get recognized, so I colored my hair red. And I hated it.”

Her makeup: “The makeup goes on every day, even if I’m not going anywhere.”

I always find it interesting that Gwen is so old-fashioned about “putting on her face” as we in the South say. My mother is just like that too – she will not leave the house without a full face of makeup (even when she’s sick, even when she’s going to the hospital) and it honestly doesn’t make a bit of difference. She looks pretty much the same, with or without makeup. As for Gwen, I’m sure she does look different without “her face” on, but I suspect she looks even younger, honestly. Previously, Gwen has claimed: “I like to wear make-up for Gavin and I don’t feel energized till I’ve put it on, then I’m ready to go.” I think that’s BS – she’s not wearing makeup for Gavin, she’s wearing it for herself.

Back in the day, right after Angelina gave birth to Shiloh in Namibia and the Jolie-Pitt family had returned to America, Angelina and Brad started spending some time with Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale. Little Kingston and Shiloh were born just days apart, and if I remember correctly, Zuma’s birth was close to Angelina’s pregnancy with the twins too (I just looked it up – Gwen and Angelina were pregnant at the same time again, and gave birth within a month of each other then too). Anyway, I was never really sure if Angelina and Brad kept up their end of the celebrity friendship – they’re always traveling and such, but it looks like Gwen and Angelina managed to organize a playdate for the kids in London. Angelina took her four youngest kids over to Gwen and Gavin’s London home, and I’m sure chaos ensued. These are some photos of Angelina and the kids leaving – you can see more here at the Mail.

Angelina Jolie and Gwen Stefani bonded in 2006 after giving birth within a day of each other. And it seems their low-key friendship still runs strong. The Tourist actress was spotted taking some of her brood for a playdate at the pop star’s London home today.

The 36-year-old, who is in the city while her partner Brad Pitt shoots his new film World War Z, arrived at the Primrose Hill abode with Zahara, 6, Shiloh, 5, and 3-year-old twins Vivienne and Knox in tow.

She gently encouraged her tentative charges out of the car and inside the property and later sent her security guard off to collect dinner from the local Wagamama noodle restaurant. The No Doubt star’s son Kingston was born the day before Shiloh, while her youngest Zuma is now the same age Angelina’s twins.

The Hollywood mothers are said to have a firm friendship, which has largely played out away from the cameras. Gwen, 41, joined Angelina and Brad for a celebratory dinner in May after the premiere of his film Tree of Life at the Cannes Film Festival.

And Brad and Gwen’s husband Gavin Rossdale have bonded too – in 2006, soon after the births of Shiloh and Kingston, they spent the Fourth of July weekend jet skiing and riding quad bikes together.

Gwen’s family split their time between the U.S. and U.K. while Angelina is expected to stay in London until Brad’s film wraps up.

I can’t even imagine what Gwen and Angelina have to say to each other. I mean, Gwen seems so girly and maybe even a little bit ditzy, and Angelina is so… somber. Does Angelina ever get silly? Will she and Gwen share a bottle of wine and bitch about Brad and Gavin? Does Angelina ever go into sexual details about Brad with Gwen the Girlfriend? I really, really want to know now. Judging from Angelina’s smiley face as she’s leaving, she and Gwen had a nice visit.

As for the kids, here are some random thoughts….It looks like Kingston and Shiloh got into the face paint. Zahara does not look amused. I wonder if Kingston is more into Shiloh, his contemporary, or Z, the older woman? Little Knox is always so chill, and I have my fingers crossed that he’ll be a full-blown ginger, like a Fassbender-Jolie-Pitt (GAH! THAT NEEDS TO HAPPEN). And little Vivienne has grown out of the tantrum stage and now she just has the best little expressions EVER.

You know I’m not some huge fan of the Gwen Stefani-Gavin Rossdale pairing. I don’t actively dislike either of them, and I occasionally wonder about the state of their marriage, or perhaps glance through some photos of their kids, but in general, I’m “meh” on them. Gwen seems to have toned down her daily paparazzi-friendly jaunts, but I do wonder how photographers managed to take so many high-quality photos of Gwen and Gavin on the Malibu beach this weekend. Maybe Gwen and Gavin don’t care… but some of these photos look posed. Like, LeAnn Rimes-level posed.

Random thoughts about the photos… Gwen’s abdomen looks really great, especially given her age and the fact that she’s given birth twice. You have to spend time developing those ab muscles, and I’m jealous. Gwen’s abs look better than Gavin’s, although Gavin is no slouch either. In fact, I like him shirtless. He looks hot and tan.

Kingston is 5, Zuma is 3, by the way. Both of them get their hair professionally done, and they go with their mom to get their nails done too. It’s harmless, people! Although I do wonder – do you think Gwen really wishes she had at least one girl?

Gwen Stefani is starting to bug me. As Kaiser noted in our last post on her, she showed up at two premieres at Cannes looking all dolled up like she’s an actress who is actually starring in a movie showing at Cannes. Only she’s a singer and she’s there to support her friends. That’s fair enough, she’s famous and people want to take her picture, except she kind of pushed it over the edge for me with this latest batch of photos.

Here is she is on a boat at Cannes with her older kid. You might think that she’s just hanging out and happening to get papped, but she knows the photographers are there and she’s facing them and posing and sticking her ass in the air. She looks good and she knows it and she wants to show it off. If she only showed up at one premiere at Cannes, or if we didn’t see photos of her out with her with her kids playing happy family at the park constantly I would just shrug and move on. These pictures were staged, though, two of our photo agencies had them, and they’re like the second set of Gwen on a boat in her bikini during this vacation. Does she get to write the whole thing off since she’s getting so much publicity out of it?

I know we’ve been doing a lot of fashion posts from the Cannes Film Festival, and if you’ve been getting bored, I apologize. The festival ended on Sunday, so these are some of the last pics we’re going to do. These are photos of Gwne Stefani at the Friday premiere of This Must Be The Place, that Sean Penn film where he looks like Robert Smith. I just wanted to do these photos separately from everything else so we could concentrate on everything that’s wrong with Gwen.

First of all, her appearance. The gown is Armani Prive. The makeup is clown college, I suppose. The dress in and of itself is kind of tacky. I generally dislike these kinds of “boob cutouts” and any kind of “breast bow” situation, so there’s a lot for me to dislike here, style-wise. But the makeup takes the whole look to another level. WTF is Gwen’s problem? Who is doing her makeup? Who hates her this much? Is she doing it herself? Because honestly, this looks a homemade makeup disaster. This is the kind of makeup job one drunk girl gives her equally drunk friend when they’re about to go out clubbing for the night.

But the biggest problem I have with this is the WHY of it all. WHY is Gwen walking all of these red carpets in Cannes? Does she literally have nothing better to do? She was one an It Girl, somebody with a career. Now she acts like her full-time job is posing on red carpets and pap’ing her family. It’s all getting really tacky.

This is a post devoted to some of the additional photos from last night’s Tree of Life premiere in Cannes – we already covered Angelina and Brad’s red carpet appearance here. Brangelina’s buddies Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale were also on hand for the premiere. Considering I have no idea what other purpose Gwen and Gavin would have for being in the South of France, I’m going to say that they probably came explicitly to party and hang out with Brangelina. Gwen wore this Stella McCartney jumpsuit thing that only a small-breasted woman could wear without being arrested. Also: I’m pretty sure McCartney jacked this entire design from vintage Halston, because I was pretty sure this look WAS vintage Halston. As for Gwen’s styling… the makeup is too heavy, but that’s Gwen. That’s her “thing”. But the hair… Jesus, the hair. It’s a wonder Gwen’s hair doesn’t fall out in clumps.

Wherever Jude Law goes, he hears the Ocean’s 11 theme in his head.

In nearly every photo I saw of Zoe Saldana, she had a major case of bitchface. Why so peeved, Zoe? You thought you were the next big thing and now when you show up at Cannes, none of the photographers even bother to point their lenses at you? That was mean. I apologize. Zoe is wearing Armani… I would never have guessed “Armani” for this candy-cane-sarong dress. It’s kind of interesting, and Zoe definitely works it better than most girls would.

Let’s end it with some additional Brangelina photos that came in after I published yesterday’s story. This one, below, might be one of my favorite Brange photos EVER. While Brad and Angelina are often affectionate on the red carpet (and off), Brad usually isn’t so grab-happy and clutchy. I like it. I like the way he’s holding her, pulling her closer to him. I love the look of his hands on her. Is this gross? Whatever. I think this is a lovely, sexy photo, and dear God, I love Angelina’s profile.

Angelina is simply shocked that Brad was man-handling her! SHOCKED.

Gwen Stefani is the cover girl for the new issue of Elle Magazine – it’s their music issue, and Elle did an unexpectedly great job with the photo shoot and profiles. In addition to Gwen, musical stars like Willow Smith, Adele, Robyn, Nicki Minaj, Feist, Stevie Nicks and Aretha Franklin are also profiled and photographed (full slideshow here, at Elle). Gwen gets the long interview, and since she seems to be one of those women some of you love to hate, I thought I’d give you her interview excerpts. I think she comes across decently here – she cops to being vain, she gets a bit touchy when Elle compares her to Rihanna and Gaga, and she gushes about Gavin:

Gwen on vanity & performing while pregnant: “It was horrible. Certain songs would make me want to puke. You feel pretty gross when you are first pregnant. You don’t feel cute, you feel disgusting. You’re getting fat. It was hard. I mean, I’m very vain. That would be my middle name. Of course I am, you know what I mean? I love the visual.”

On writing hits: “I do! Why wouldn’t you want that many people listening to the songs that you wrote? There’s no way to go back after you have had it. So the intentions of even the solo records were always about trying to write those guilty-pleasure albums that just get in your head and you can’t get out. I’m not cool, I’m not into the B-sides. Prince, who is one of my idols, gave me some advice when I worked with him: “Have you ever just tried writing a hit? Like, don’t just try writing a song, try and write a hit song.” I remember him saying that and me thinking, Yeah, you’re right. Why would you write anything else?”

On Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Katy Perry: “I don’t see myself in those girls. I usually put pants on. I see these girls as more going for the sex-symbol thing. I was more, in the band, like a tomboy. Of course, I think every girl is sexy, so there’s going to be a little of that. But I see a lot of younger artists going more toward the sexy thing.”

On Gavin: “The first time we ever kissed was right around Valentine’s Day; we were in New Orleans on tour. I always think about that because it’s unbelievable that we’ve been able to stay together. I feel so proud of us. It’s one of my biggest achievements.”

On pop music: “When we were growing up, some of the hits were legendary ones that you hear your whole life. But certain songs, I don’t know if you’ll ever hear them again. Because that’s what that music is, like a guilty pleasure, it’s right at the moment. It’s like fashion—it’s now, then it’s gone.”

Aw, I don’t hate her. I do think she probably has low self-esteem and yeah, she has a famewhore streak too. But the chick is talented – she’s got pipes, and she writes her own music, and that’s more than most pop stars can say.

Oh, I keep meaning to add this to a story, but I don’t write about Gwen that often, so here you go – in an interview a few weeks ago, Gwen was talking about why she wears so much drag queen makeup and she said, “I wear make-up every single day. I like to wear make-up for Gavin and I don’t feel energized until I’ve put it on, then I’m ready to go.” She wears the drag queen makeup FOR Gavin? Discuss.
