Madonna gets cheeky & wigged out in Givenchy at the Met Gala: amazing?

Guess who else wore Givenchy, just like Beyonce and Kim Kardashian? MADONNA. Are they the same level of celebrity? Ugh. Anyway, let’s talk about Madonna. Let’s talk about this look and Madonna’s insistence on showing up at the Met Gala every year, even though she’s “fallen out” with the cool kids, like Gwyneth, et al. I think Madonna is just throwing it in everybody’s faces at this point. I think the Met Gala is just her chance to shine and be a famewhore and have fun and get attention. They say that she arrived AFTER Beyonce, which is a pretty big deal considering Beyonce was the co-chair.

As for Madonna’s look… it was punk, I guess. The wig is fug, the outfit is funny and my favorite part is the crucifix hanging off of her butt. What do you want from her? She’s Madge. If she doesn’t show some butt cheek at a punk-themed event, who will?

Gwen Stefani could have showed some butt cheek and I think many of us would have expected it. But Gwen kind of didn’t know where to go, I think. She lives a pretty punk life as a rock star, so she tried to mix that with some glamour in this Maison Martin Margiela dress, and I’m not sure she succeeded. It’s not bad, and I think she really thought about the theme, but it’s more boring than I was expecting.

And just for a laugh, here’s Miranda Kerr in Michael Kors. For Kerr, punk = abs? I think she looks really dumb.

Courtney Love says Gavin Rossdale runs all aspects of Gwen Stefani’s career

Courtney Love

Here are photos of Courtney Love at Sundance where she is undoubtedly raiding the swag rooms. Hahaha. That was actually just a joke, but then I started to wonder why Courtney attended Sundance at all, and Page Six has detailed her swag coup under a list of “greedy celebs who attend the annual festival to raid the gifting suites: “[A]fter a couple of minutes and a few obligatory press pictures, Love walked away with a $695 Kudsak leather jacket, $600 worth of Johnny Was tops, and a $2 bottle of Hint water. After all, it’s easy to get dehydrated when you’re swagging on the slopes.” Easy work if you can get it, right?

Meanwhile, Courtney just doesn’t know when to shut it. Of course, this is a chronic problem for her, and in just the past year or so, she’s talked about how if Kurt Cobain came back, she’d have to kill him; how her benzos addiciton is all Winona Ryder and Andy Dick’s fault; and how she wants to marry a titled nobleman and become Lady Love. She also accused Dave Grohl of trying to seduce Francis Bean and claimed to be Lindsay Lohan’s sobriety coach, which is hilarious because if was true (which it wasn’t), Courtney was pretty much saying that she is the worst sobriety coach in the universe.

Now Courtney is running her mouth again to ABC News, which is listening for whatever reason, and she’s talking sh-t about Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale’s marriage. Essentially, she says that Gavin is running the whole show and even does all the work for Gwen’s fashion lines. What the hell?

Courtney Love

Courtney Love sounds a little bitter over Gwen Stefani’s success and her marriage to Gavin Rossdale.

In ABC News’ profile on the outspoken Hole singer, she claims that she dated Rossdale before he got together with Stefani.

After noticing a Yves Saint Laurent coat that the No Doubt singer wore on January’s Vogue cover that Love coveted, she says in her interview, “Funny thing, you know, I would’ve never really bet on Gwen. Not back in the day.”

Love claims that Stefani’s success and her “[bleep]ing empire” of a clothing line, L.A.M.B., can be credited to her musician husband.

She also claims that because Rossdale’s band Bush never found continued mainstream success after the nineties, he now runs Stefani’s career.

“His band never did that well but he is very, very smart,” she says. “He runs the Gwen show, that’s him. He runs the clothing line, he [bleep]ing built that up, he has nothing else to do.”

She adds, “He was so good looking, but I kind of envisioned that me and Gavin Rossdale would end up on the French Riviera, like, taking tennis lessons and [bleep]ing our respective polo teachers.”

[From Page Six]

I think we all realize that Courtney, who has long claimed that she slept with Gavin while he was with Gwen, has no idea what she’s talking about when it comes to Gwen’s career and Gavin’s alleged masterminding thereof. I do think that there is tension in Gwen and Gavin’s marriage (like most marriages), and Gwen may very well end up at a nice spa getaway soon after trying to do it all, but I don’t think that Gavin is the one sitting around dreaming up crazy-ass haircalf wedge shoes and metallic cargo shorts. Courtney basically is dreaming crap up in her own head and decidng that’s the truth of the matter. And for the record, Bush was a very successful band in the 1990s with three multi-platinum albums. Gavin might be struggling to rebuild the band and reach his former musical success, but it’s not like “he has nothing else to do” but act as a behind-the-scenes tyrant. Shut up, Courtney.

Here’s Gwen and Gavin out on Saturday with the kids while shopping for topiaries. They probably just shook their heads at Courtney’s silly, drugged-up words.

Is Gwen Stefani on the verge of a nervous breakdown while ‘doing it all’?

Gwen Stefani

Here are some photos of Gwen Stefani with and without Gavin Rossdale as she completed some Christmas shopping. I’ve been a big fan of Gwen’s since the mid 1990s when “Just a Girl” hit the airwaves. I have always been envious of her stellar ab muscles. In her recent Marie Claire interview, Gwen lamented that her busy life (mother, singer, designer, etc.) had forced her to give up working out so much over the past year or two, but I really don’t believe her because she was looking pretty ripped onstage a few weeks ago at one of Gavin’s gigs. During the same interview, however, Gwen admitted that her life’s been super hectic since she began recording the new No Doubt album. She said, “Every day I fail at something. Every day someone is suffering because I’m doing all these things.” Now a new story in this week’s Star poses the theory that Gwen is about overdue for a nervous breakdown:

Gwen Stefani

Outsiders might envy Gwen Stefani, considering how much success she’s enjoying these days. Her band, No Doubt, is now preparing for a comeback tour after releasing a critically acclaimed album, Push and Shove, that debuted in the No. 3 slot on the Billboard charts. The mother of two is also managing three thriving clothing lines while pushing forward on her solo music career — all with the support of her loving husband, Bush frontman Gavin Rossdale. But those close ot the pop star and fashion icon say that she’s in way over her head — and if something doesn’t change fast, she could crack under the pressure.

Gwen’s loved ones are concerned that the grueling rehearsal schedule for No Doubt’s 2013 tour will be the straw that breaks the singer’s back. “Gwen is a complete mess right now,” and insider reports. “She can’t keep up with everything. She gets no sleep, and she cries constantly because she feels like she’s letting Gavin and the kids down by not being with them as much as she should.” Tony Kanal — No Doubt’s bassist, who dated Gwen for seven years before her marriage — has also commented on how overwhelmed she is. “She thinks she’s failing at everything,” he has said. And Gwen herself has hinted at her anxiety during a recent interview: She described all the projects she’s working on and then admitted, “It is ridiculous. It’s impossible!”

The pressure seems to be wreaking havoc on her physical health as much as her emotional state. “Her stomach is in knots, her back aches constantly, she can barely move her neck and she has headaches nonstop,” the source says. “Her acupuncturist is at her beck and call night and day because she’s always in so much pain.”

But acupuncture doesn’t work miracles — and the stress may be destroying her most valuable asset: her vocal cords. “Her exhausting nonstop schedule is taking a huge toll on her voice,” the mole reports. “It has been coming and going in a way that scares her and her bandmates.”

It’s also terrifying to her husband. The rumor mill was recently abuzz with gossip that Gwen’s marriage was in trouble after she and Gavin were spotted coming out of a therapist’s office together — but, according to her pal, the truth is that Gwen is the only one in counseling, and Gavin goes along to be supportive.” He begged Gwen to get therapy and is begging her to ease up before she has a major breakdown,” the insider explains. But with so many committments that she can’t back out of, a breakdown may be the excuse she needs to finally get some reat.

[From Star, print edition, January 7, 2013]

I can easily believe this story. Gwen is burning several candles at both ends. Honestly, I have no idea why she decided to join up for the No Doubt reunion except that the band really doesn’t exist without her, and she’d probably feel guilty if she turned down Tony Kanal and the other boys. But it isn’t as if Gwen has to be a singer, a rock chick, and a clothing designer in order to support her family, you know? (Note: I’m not asking her to give up her career, but she doesn’t have to do all if it if she doesn’t have the energy. She could afford time time off from either singing or designing, and the world won’t collapse.) Her sons would certainly have been able to attend college without this No Doubt tour, and I think it’s a case of Gwen needing to learn to say “no.”

Here’s one very obvious reason that this story could be true. Gwen has recently admitted to touching up her platinum hair color up every 10 days, and it’s very important to her that no one ever see her dark roots. In this photo taken about a week ago, Gwen’s roots are definitely showing.

Gwen Stefani covers Vogue, talks about her marriage: ‘It’s fun to get to this point’

Gwen Stefani covers the January issue of Vogue Mag, and OMG this cover. The Photoshop on Gwen’s head/hat and the Vogue logo is ridiculous. Surely they could have chosen a better photo for THE COVER?! Surely they could have used a photo in which poor Gwen doesn’t have her legs spread? Yikes. This is a disaster. As for the article… it’s interesting. The piece is heavy on the No Doubt. Obviously, because of their new album, and it’s nice that all of the No Doubt guys are quoted throughout the piece (there’s a nice story about how the dudes are grateful that Gwen keeps them acting like gentlemen). You can read the full piece here, and you can see the pictorial here. Some highlights:

On ‘having it all’ worries: “Getting to the studio and not being able to make it happen, but missing out on being at home, missing out on putting the kids down. What’s more important? I felt so guilty. I am letting everyone down in the studio right now; I’m letting down my kids; I’m letting down myself. Because time was so precious. So I didn’t know what the album’s tone would end up being in that kind of state, but it’s really upbeat considering.”

Being with Gavin for 16 years: “It’s pride. You feel proud. There are just so many rewards that come with it. You have to work at it. But, actually, it’s fun to get to this point. Because you learn so much about somebody. It’s like these wars that go on and then you kind of get through it to the other side, and it’s like, Wow. And obviously, you get stronger. And then having kids takes the whole relationship to another place. It is the ultimate collaboration. Both of us have such strong opinions about how it should be, and it’s really fun to do it together.”

Gavin is more of genuine artist: “He’s the busiest person I know, always songwriting,” she says. Stefani is a tortured writer, always procrastinating. “Gavin says, ‘Oh, you’re doing your thing that you do,’ and I’m like, ‘I don’t have a thing. It’s just hard: writing it, recording it, finishing it. I am not like Prince, where it just flows out and God comes through me.’ I never write unless I have to. Gavin does. All the time. He’s more of a genuine artist in that way.”

On motherhood: “It’s superfun being a mom, but it’s not what you think it’s going to be. And it’s really gradual. At first, your life is totally the same. You have this cute little thing that you get to drive around everywhere and you’re so proud and it’s amazing. And as they grow older, it really does start to change your life. Like, Oh, my God, they have school, they have to get through first grade, they have to learn to read.”

[From Vogue]

Ha, I laughed at her quote about her kids – “Oh, my God, they have school, they have to get through first grade, they have to learn to read.” I mean, she could get slammed for saying something so ditzy, but I understand what she’s saying. She’s more focused on the present, and the way her kids are getting older has kind of snuck up on her. It’s sweet. Also: Gwen doesn’t say anything about the rumors about her marriage troubles (she just says nice stuff about Gavin overall), nor does she say anything specifically about the Native American drama with No Doubt’s last music video, although the Vogue writer (Jonathan Van Meter) does discuss it.

Gwen Stefani & Gavin Rossdale step out together after the nanny butt-touch

A few days ago, we discussed whether or not Gavin Rossdale is fooling around with his hot, young, blonde nanny. There were photos of Gavin and the hot nanny taking a hike together (with Kingston and Zuma) several days ago, and at one point during the hike, Gavin put a friendly hand very close to the nanny’s ass. I don’t want to leave the impression that Gavin was, like, caressing a nanny butt cheek or anything, but his hand was suspiciously close to her ass, and it felt like a very “familiar” gesture.

Anyway, these are some new pics of Gavin and Gwen out and about yesterday in LA, where they dropped their sons off at school together. Friendly spin: they didn’t know they would be pap’d, and the paparazzi are simply trailing Gavin all the time now because they want to bust him with the nanny. Realistic spin: just like every other time there are bad rumors about the state of their marriage, Gavin and Gwen have arranged for a nice “happy family” photo op. Oh well… I like that Gwen keeps including her little fluffy dog in the photo-ops. He’s part of the family too!

So, should we all just go back to minding our own bidness about these two? Obviously, they’ve weathered other storms and they’re still making it work. Is that admirable? Or is it a sign of something profoundly dysfunctional? I’m 50-50 on it. I think it’s both admirable AND dysfunctional.

Is Gavin Rossdale fooling around with his young, blonde nanny?

Note: the most “interesting” photos of Gavin & the nanny can be seen here at LaineyGossip.

It felt like there were 20 million new photos of Gavin Rossdale and Gwen Stefani over the long weekend. I kept checking through our photo agencies and I was like, “Good God, Gwen and Gavin are making the paparazzi work extra hard this year.” The photos of Gwen and Gavin together are from the 24th, when they went to her parents’ house. The photos of Gavin with the boys and the blonde nanny are from the 25th. We need to discuss what’s happening in those photos.

Fame/Flynet tagged the photos with this: “Musician Gavin Rossdale takes his boys Kingston and Zuma out for a hike in West Hollywood, California on November 25, 2012. There appears to be a dirty handprint on the butt of their nanny…is there trouble brewing in the Rossdale/Stefani household?” LaineyGossip has some other photos from the same hike – go here to see those pics. In those, you can see Gavin and the nanny from behind, with Gavin putting his hand just below the small of her back (and maybe just a tad above her butt crack). He’s not really touching full-on ass, but it still seems like a shockingly intimate gesture. And if Gavin’s dirt-covered hands were actually fondling the nanny’s butt cheeks when they had been out of sight of the paparazzi? Trouble.

Here’s my positive spin on this: Gavin and Gwen are pap’d all the time. To my mind, they actively engage in the Celebrity-Child-Industrial Complex. Gavin knew he was being pap’d, he could plainly see the paparazzi and why in the world would he intimately touch the nanny in front of the photographers if he was really boning her? It makes more sense if the nanny is simply part of their family, and their intimacy is familial.

Here’s my negative spin on this: there are always rumors about Gavin and Gwen and their allegedly troubled marriage. They always manage to push a “happy family” photo-op whenever those rumors arise. But maybe there is something to the rumors. And maybe the nanny is one of the problems in their marriage?

Gwen Stefani covers Nylon, laments the lack of importance of music award shows

This isn’t as sexy/exciting/offensive as yesterday’s No Doubt post (about their racist music video which seemed designed to offend Native Americans), but I still think this is noteworthy. Gwen Stefani covers the new issue of Nylon Mag, and at this point I do think we have to acknowledge that Gwen is tweaking and/or Botoxing, right? Before six months ago, I just thought Gwen was an ageless vampire who took care of herself, but at some point this year, I really just began to think that she’s doing something to her face. This pictorial just draws it out even more for me. Anyway, Gwen got the cover because she’s promoting No Doubt’s new album, and the guys in the band actually posed for a photo for the magazine. Some highlights from the interview:

Gwen Stefani on fame: “I’m telling you right now, being Number One or playing in a garage–they’re both super fun.”

On how she gets inspired: “I got all my favorite people that I work with [together] and we had a creative day. We basically all sat around with our art books and [magazine] tears and just put them up and did collages and tried to get a direction. We ended up not using anything, but it was really fun.”

On the evolving music world (the MTV VMAs included): “It used to have so much weight. People even paid attention to the categories! Now if you win one–I don’t even think anyone takes your picture. It’s like, whatever.”

[Via Nylon]

She’s right about the music awards. I remember when the VMAs were actually a big deal, like they were the cool version of the Grammys. Now no one cares who wins a VMA and no one really cares who wins a Grammy either (if they ever did). As for everything else… I don’t even know. I feel like Gwen is trying to “prove” that she’s still the badass rocker grrl, but it just feels… dated…?

No Doubt pulls their music video for ‘Looking Hot’ after complaints of racism

You know how No Doubt has a new album (Push and Shove), their first one in years and years? Well, the band just released their second (I think?) music video from their new album, for the single “Looking Hot”. And the music video is a HOT mess. I should admit that I only watched the video for the first time knowing that it was racially charged and controversial, so I have I don’t really know if I would have watched it without that knowledge and thought that it was okay. Probably not. It’s pretty bad. The music video features… I guess it’s supposed to be like the old Wild West? And Gwen Stefani is like a Native American princess and she’s tied up and singing about how she’s looking hot, and the rest of the dudes in the band are Native Americans or cowboys or something…? As I said, it’s a mess. Here’s the video (I’m including some different versions to see what might get pulled…?):

No Doubt – Looking Hot (Official video) from Flochjan on Vimeo.

So, obviously, the Native American community had some stuff to say. Stuff like “Damn, y’all. RACIST.” Those complaints led to either YouTube pulling the video on its own, or No Doubt asking for the video to be removed. No Doubt also issued a statement about the mess:

“Being hurtful to anyone is simply not who we are. As a multi-racial band our foundation is built upon both diversity and consideration for other cultures. Our intention with our new video was never to offend, hurt or trivialize Native American people, their culture or their history. Although we consulted with Native American friends and Native American studies experts at the University of California, we realize now that we have offended people. This is of great concern to us and we are removing the video immediately. The music that inspired us when we started the band, and the community of friends, family, and fans that surrounds us was built upon respect, unity and inclusiveness. We sincerely apologize to the Native American community and anyone else offended by this video.”

[Band statement via Hollywood Life]

So… do you think that the band just did the music video without thinking at any point, “Hey, is this racist? Will this offend Native Americans?” I kind of think that’s exactly what happened. I think a bunch of 40-something rock stars just thought it would be cool and sexy to play “Cowboys & Indians” as adults. Ugh.

Miley Cyrus was Nicki Minaj for Halloween, and Gwen Stefani was “Dead Sandy”?

We’re just doing an assortment of Halloween photos from various events – some of them will be from neighborhood trick-or-treating, some of them from actual events and parties. Let’s start off with Miley Cyrus showing off her Nicki Minaj costume via Twitter. Miley threw a Halloween party (which is apparently an annual thing now?) at Beacher’s Madhouse. The Cyrus Clan was there, as was Liam Hemsworth (who was a unicorn, and I would love to see those photos!) and Zac Efron, who came to the party dressed as a Brokeback Mountain cowboy. COUGH.

Here’s Harrison Ford and Calista Flockhart taking Calista’s son (their son!) trick-or-treating in Brentwood. I guess they’re supposed to be “nerds”? Is there some significance to Harrison’s “Timmy” name tag?

Here’s Gwen Stefani last night in London, at Jonathan Ross’s party. Sandy from Grease/dead Hurricane Sandy I guess.

Gwen only made it to London yesterday – and she brought a costumed Zuma through Heathrow. He’s Darth Vader, right?

Are Gwen Stefani & Gavin in couples therapy for their troubled marriage?

My opinion: Despite the fact that Gwen Stefani consistently works the media to her advantage, she somehow manages to avoid looking like a famewhore, or that she’s manipulating public opinion in her favor. I have no idea how she manages to avoid those labels – “famewhore” or “media manipulator” – but I get the feeling that the general public opinion of Gwen is “I like her. She’s not my favorite celebrity but I like her.” So, she moves throughout the industry very effectively. Whenever there are weird or bad rumors about her marriage, she and Gavin Rossdale step out with their kids, and all the tabloids get are lots and lots of happy-family images. Gwen never complains about the spotlight and she never trashes anyone publicly. She’s never really talked in depth about all of the rumors about her marriage, and maybe she never will say anything beyond “we’re fine” or “marriage is hard but you have to power through.” So on that too, it’s impossible to “tag” her for hypocrisy really. Maybe Gwen is truly the master of all manipulation – she makes it look so easy!

Anyway, why did I just go off on all of that? Oh, right. In Touch Weekly reports that Gwen and Gavin were seen leaving a couples therapy session, and that Gavin has been away from the family for extended periods of time. I suspect that this will be yet another report that Gwen “officially” ignores but in a few days, she and Gavin will be photographed with their kids looking like a perfectly happy family:

Another Hollywood marriage is in trouble. In Touch can exclusively reveal that on Oct. 8, a visibly upset Gwen Stefani, 43, left a couples therapy session in LA with husband Gavin Rossdale, 46.

“Over the past two years they’ve spent less and less time together,” a source close to the couple tells the new issue of In Touch, on newsstands now.

Although the pair have denied they’re splitting, the source reveals, “They used to be affectionate with each other and laugh a lot. That never happens anymore.”

The couple’s troubles stem from the Bush front man’s busy tour schedule, which prevents Gavin from spending time with his wife and their sons, Kingston, 6, and Zuma, 4.

“There were months where he wouldn’t even be at the house,” says the source.

[From In Touch Weekly]

Yeah… I’ve got to defend them while at the same time acknowledging that I would totally believe that they could split up at some point. First, Gavin and Gwen are both rebooting their music careers, Gavin with Bush and Gwen with No Doubt. They’re going to be apart more and more. It happens, and it happens a lot with touring artists. As for the couples therapy… if they are going, it’s not necessarily a sign of something awful. Robert Downey Jr. and Susan go to couples therapy all the time, and I consider them one of the strongest couples in Hollywood.
