Rhys Ifans arrested at Comic-Con after shoving a woman & bashing America

fp_4533072_ang_greenberg_08_09

Many think that alcohol not only loosens tongues, but acts like some kind of truth serum. “In vino veritas” and all of that. Personally, I found that different alcoholic beverages make me feel different things. Tequila always makes me a happy, giddy drunk. Whiskey makes me amorous. Vodka makes me kind of depressed. Gin makes me really, really sick. I’ve never really found a drink that makes me racist or xenophobic. Well… I might have talked trash to some English guys about the UK, but I ended up making out with all of them, so it doesn’t count, right?

So what does it say about Rhys Ifans when he gets hammered at Comic-Con (in San Diego, California, FYI) and starts bad-mouthing America? Does Rhys hate America? Or was it just the liquor? More importantly than the America-bashing, what does it say about Rhys that he shoved and acted aggressive and belligerent towards a female security guard? Woman-hater? Violent misogynist? Or was it, once again, just the alcohol?

“The Amazing Spider-Man” villain Rhys Ifans was arrested and cited for misdemeanor battery for shoving a female security guard before Friday night’s Comic-Con panel for the film, police tell TheWrap.

Ifans, who smelled of alcohol, became irate when a member of his entourage was unable to enter the hall for lack of proper credentialing, police said. They said he shoved the guard in order to pass through, and was allowed to participate in the panel, but the guard subsequently made a citizen’s arrest.

A spokesman for Sony said that Ifans “deeply regrets the incident.”

“He was aggressive and belligerent,” Lt. Andra Brown said of the Welsh actor. “He was… berating everyone from the security staff to the United States of America.”

“He was cited and released, which is a non-custodial misdemeanor arrest,” added Brown, who said that the San Diego City Attorney will now determine whether to pursue charges. Ifans could be required to pay a fine, or could contest the case before a judge.

“But, according to him, the U.S. sucks and he doesn’t want to come back,” Brown said.

An individual with knowledge of the incident said security was very “tight and aggressive backstage.” The person said Ifans stepped outside to smoke a cigarette, and when he tried to get back in security tried to stop him and his entourage, which escalated into an argument.

Ifans also marked his 44th birthday Friday, according to the birthdate on his passport provided by police.

In Sony’s “Spider-Man” reboot, due next summer, Ifans plays the villainous Lizard, a scientist who takes on reptilian features after looking for a way to grow back his missing arm.

“Rhys Ifans was detained by Comic-Con security after a brief incident backstage prior to and immediately following the ‘Amazing Spider-Man’ panel,’” a spokesman for Sony said in a statement. “Police were notified and a citation was issued to Mr. Ifans, who deeply regrets this incident.”

Ifans’ agent did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Ifans joined the “Spider-Man” panel late, after a sneak preview introducing his character. He spoke little, and co-stars Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone and director Marc Webb fielded most of the questions.

Here is a statement to TheWrap from Lt. Brown:

“Rhys Ifans (the Lizard in the new “Spider-Man” movie) was placed under citizen’s arrest for battery on a security guard. A member of his entourage did not have proper credentials for the entrance he was at. He was abusive, belligerent, and aggressive, and shoved a female security guard aside to shove his way through. After the panel, he was cited and released. He was verbally abusive to all around…security, the PD and the USA. After receiving his citation he left the venue.”

[From The Wrap]

On one side, I feel for Lt. Brown, just because I can totally imagine how much it sucks for an adult woman trying to act as a security guard in a sea of kids and nerds. I also think that there might be a missing part to this story, a part where Rhys pulled the “Don’t you know who I am?” card and Lt. Brown didn’t know, nor did care, and that is what made this incident worse: wounded celebrity pride on Rhys’s part. All of that being said, DUDE, get a grip. You’re at Comic-Con! Stop shoving women and acting like a d-bag.

Rhys Ifans talks about being “dumped” by “A-list superstar” Sienna Miller

mr_nice_02_wenn3034725

These are photos of Rhys Ifans at the premiere of his film Mr. Nice, last night in London. In the film, Rhys has a starring role as a famous (and real-life) Welsh drug dealer Howard Marks, who became one of the major marijuana suppliers in America, and was later imprisoned in America for years. It sounds like an interesting film, actually – and apparently, Howard “Mr. Nice” Marks is something like a patron saint for pot smokers. Regarding Rhys: I think he looks nice. God knows he’s not the best-looking man, but I like that he’s aging naturally and that his hair is thinning and yet… he still looks pulled together and rather sexy, in an unconventional way. I recently saw Rhys in Pirate Radio, and I was impressed – I wouldn’t have put Rhys and Phillip Seymour Hoffman in the same room together (too much quirky charisma), but they really worked beautifully. Also: Rhys belongs in 1960s clothes, so I’m glad to see him in a cute little mod skinny tie and a slim-cut suit jacket.

Anyway, in a recent interview, Rhys talked about his long-past relationship with Sienna Miller. As you may remember, Sienna dumped Rhys for the very married Balthazar Getty, and Rhys totally won the public’s sympathy. I admired Rhys because he didn’t go on a publicity tour bashing Sienna – he’s never said one bad (or good) word about her, actually. But I guess after two years, he’s ready to discuss it. Sort of.

Welsh actor Rhys Ifans used music to mend his broken heart following his split from Sienna Miller – by founding a new rock band.

The “Notting Hill” star was devastated when Miller ended their year-long relationship in 2008, and he returned to his native Wales to recover.

And the former Super Furry Animals musician bounced back from the break-up by throwing himself into music with new band The Peth.

Ifans tells Britain’s The Times, “To come home and be with the people I love most in the world is better than lying on any couch. I highly recommend if an A-list superstar dumps you, just join a rock ‘n’ roll band.”

But Ifans admits he’s baffled by his resulting reputation as a womanizer after his romance with Miller – insisting he’s a loser when it comes to being a Lothario.

He adds, “Even though I’ve had my moments of drink and drugs excess that have gone on for far too long, when I gave the Lothario bit a little run, it was hopeless. You spend all night getting to like this girl, and then you’re supposed to move on, avoid her and her calls. I just couldn’t do it. I’m too soft.”

[From SF Gate]

Aw. I bet he’s a fun boyfriend. He’s sort of a fixer-upper, but he’s a keeper. I hope he finds someone nice, and not some immature, selfish user coughcoughSiennacough.

Here’s the trailer for Mr. Nice… ugh, Chloe Sevigny is in it. But otherwise it looks good.

Emma Thompson’s date to the ‘Nanny McPhee’ premiere is a real pig

nanny_mcphee_big_bang_008_wenn5449773

On those rare occasions when I find something to write about for my beloved Emma Thompson, I always want to begin the post with “I love you I love you I love you Emma Thompson marry me.” Because I would marry her. In a heartbeat. I think we would have a wonderful life together. She and I and her daughter Gaia and this lovely little pig. The pig was Emma’s “date” for the London premiere of Nanny McPhee and The Big Bang. God, I love her. Look how she’s posing with the pig. My guess is that the dress is Vivienne Westwood. I don’t know who dressed the fabulous sow.

Not only is Emma the star of Nanny McPhee, she wrote the screenplay and she’s an executive producer. So who do you think came to her and asked, “Um, how about the pig as your date?” And instead of pulling rank, Emma was like, “A pig? Fabulous.” Of course, she might have been drunk, too. Because she looks kind of drunk in these photos. Not that that’s a bad thing! I would love to be drunk with her. I would imagine it would involve a lot dramatic readings while wearing scarves and a lampshade.

premiere_nanny_mcphee_015_wenn5449858

Oh, here’s Emma with husband Greg Wise (swoon!) and daughter Gaia. Gaia is a pretty little thing.

nanny_mcphee_premiere_arrivals_03_wenn5449904

Maggie Gyllenhaal is also in Nanny McPhee, and she was at the premiere. Ralph Fiennes is also in it! Random, right? But Ralph didn’t come to the premiere unfortunately.

nanny_mcphee_arrivals_0020_wenn5449901

Rhys Ifans is also in the film. By the way, when did Rhys Ifans become such a panty-dropper? Is it just the beard? If it’s just the beard, then I hope this man never shaves again. This is a really, really hot look for him, and I’ve never felt anything for him before now.

Rhys Ifans says ‘I learnt my lesson’ from Sienna Miller

siennarhys1

Rhys Ifans has remained remarkably classy about his split with Sienna Miller last year. She left him abruptly and took up with the very married Balthazar Getty. While Getty’s wife Rosetta has had all of her public relations resources working overtime to bash the illicit couple, Rhys took the high road and never really spoke about his version of the split.

Now that he’s out promoting his new film The Boat That Rocked (which has Bill Nighy and Phillip Seymour Hoffman in it, meow!), Rhys has already given a couple of interviews in which he alluded to the split but never came out and said anything about Sienna.

However, The Daily Mail caught up with him at the London premiere Monday night and got him to say “’[The paparazzi] don’t bother me anymore now though, it’s all about who you’re shagging and I don’t do that anymore… I learnt my lesson there, didn’t I? I won’t make that mistake again.”

Rhys Ifans has been off the radar lately – and that’s just the way he wants it.

The actor and hellraiser has revealed he’s had enough of famous girlfriends after ‘learning his lesson’ when he split up with Sienna Miller last summer.

Rhys, 40, was speaking at the Leicester Square premiere of his new movie The Boat That Rocked, set aboard a pirate radio ship in the swinging Sixties.

The gruff Welshman said he was sick of the attention from photographers during his relationship with Sienna, and added: ‘I had a harpoon on board the boat ready for when the paps tried to spy on us.

‘I would have loved to drown a few of them.”

‘They don’t bother me anymore now though, it’s all about who you’re shagging and I don’t do that anymore… I learnt my lesson there, didn’t I? I won’t make that mistake again.’

[From The Daily Mail]

I really think Rhys meant the “I learnt my lesson” comment in a general way, like he learned his lesson not to date a woman who is catnip to tabloids. It didn’t seem to me like he was trying to bash Sienna, he was just making a general comment about how he doesn’t like a lot of attention focused on his personal life.

In interviews, Rhys has always seemed like a really sweet, thoughtful guy, and I bet he was a good boyfriend. He’s really won me over with his classy behavior. Team Ifans.

Here’s Sienna and Rhys out in London last May .

Rhys Ifans gets drunk, sleeps in boats, isn’t talking about Sienna Miller

Rhys Ifans has kept a pretty low profile since his break-up with Sienna Miller last year. He’s gearing up to promote a new film, The Boat That Rocked, and has given a pretty good interview to The Daily Mail. He talks about the work, about pub-crawling, about his privacy, but the one thing he doesn’t talk about is Sienna Miller. Of course, he alludes to it, but never comes right out and says anything bad or good about her. For that, I admire him.

Rhys admits that while shooting the Richard Curtis film, he ended up so drunk that he woke up in a fishing boat one morning. Who hasn’t? It’s when you wake up on a barge that you need to start going to AA meetings. Rhys says he doesn’t consider himself a hellraiser, because his actions haven’t caused anyone any harm (cough, cough, Sienna). It’s a long interview, but here are some of the highlights:

[Rhys Ifans’] latest film, The Boat That Rocked, is directed by Richard ‘Love Actually’ Curtis and tells of a pirate radio station situated off the coast of England in the Sixties which, broadcasting 24-hour rock and pop, is a thorn in the side of the powers that be.

Ifans plays the sexually rampant Gavin, king of the Brit airwaves, who returns to broadcasting after a drug tour of America. Philip Seymour Hoffman plays his arch-rival at the station, The Count, while station boss Quentin is brought to life by Bill Nighy.

He clearly enjoyed himself during the shoot. ‘I was hanging out with some of the funniest men in Britain. There was a lot of seedy male bulletproof banter and a lot of drinking in the evenings. We shot the exteriors in Weymouth and were outside all day – fresh air and wind – so you kind of deserve a pint when you come into shore. It’s what the proper pirates did when they came back to land, with shrinking livers and a thirst for the ladies – they hit the hostelries; the only difference might have been that they didn’t win the pub quiz like we did. But I could be wrong.’

So who were the biggest drinkers? ‘Well, I did wake up in a fishing boat one morning,’ he admits. ‘All tangled up in the netting, face down, stinking of mackerel. That was when I couldn’t get home. I thought I could cross the harbour on a fishing boat, and I failed miserably; I just climbed on this boat for some reason, but I fell over and fell asleep.’

‘I’ve got nothing to hide and I’m not doing anyone any harm, and I really don’t know why my going out interests anybody anyway,’ he says, his expressive voice emphasizing each syllable.’

‘I don’t consider myself a hell-raiser; I’m living the life I know, as all my friends do. Most of Britain goes out on a Saturday night and lets their hair down, and I’m not going to change my ways. I learn my lines, turn up on time and only now and again bump into the furniture, and I work very, very hard at my job.’

From The Daily Mail

I wonder if Sienna ever regrets the way she ended things with Rhys. Her relationship with Balthazar Getty has done a lot of damage to her career (and his), but post-split, Rhys just seems to have licked his wounds in private, put his head down and gotten to work. It’s an admirable way to handle a situation, even if Rhys ends up sleeping on the occasional fishing vessel.

After coming to semi-stardom through his scene-stealing turn in Notting Hill, Rhys has really proven himself to be a talented actor who does consistently good work. It seems like he’s really trying to be seen as more than just an actor who can fill in the weird, offbeat characters. I’m really looking forward to The Boat That Rocked, it looks amazing. And Rhys is just one part of an overall amazing ensemble. Take that, Sienna.

Here’s the trailer for The Boat That Rocked. It’s out in the UK on April 3 and in other European countries in mid April, but doesn’t come out in the US until August, according to IMDB.

Rhys Ifans takes Kimberly Stewart on a strip club date

Nothing sets a girl’s heart aflutter in the early stages of dating like some freshly picked flowers; a handwritten note; or a trip to your man’s favorite strip club. Or at least that’s what Rhys Ifans would probably tell you.

Rhys was recently dumped by fiancé Sienna Miller. Via the phone. Sienna then claimed to friends that she never really had romantic feelings for Ifans. To his credit, Rhys didn’t go off the deep end, he has yet to rack up a DUI, and as far as I can tell he hasn’t made any large, stupid man-type purchases like a jet ski… or a decent haircut. I haven’t actually researched any of this, but I haven’t run across any benign dribble about it in the Daily Mail, and considering the mundane crap they’ll report on, I’m pretty sure it would have been splashed across the front page.

What he did do was start dating Kimberly Stewart, empty socialite daughter of Rod. By most accounts Kim makes Paris Hilton look like Jonas Salk. Apparently Rhys wanted to set himself apart from all the other guys and show Kim right of the bat just what kind of thoughtful guy he can be. So he took her to a nice dinner… at his favorite strip club.

Kimberly Stewart is said to have been left disappointed with Rhys Ifans after he apparently took her to a lapdancing club.

The pair have been spotted out in London on several dates since they met recently.

But it seems Rhys’ idea of a romantic night out involves a trip to strip club Spearmint Rhino..

‘It was awful,’ a source tells the Daily Star. ‘What girl wants to go to a titty bar with her new boyfriend at the beginning of a relationship?’

Earlier, Kimberly, 28, and Rhys, 40, had been partying at London’s Bungalow 8 club, where the Notting Hill actor got into a row with the paparazzi.

[From Now Magazine]

Ahhh, romance. Really, a guy could skip the flowers and the chocolates as long as he showed up at my door with a nice pair of pasties. There’s something about how sad and mopey Rhys Ifans often looks that makes me feel really badly for him. He seems to want a girl to settle down with, and somehow gets these fairly hot blonds. But they’re only into him for so long, then it’s back to the strip club. Maybe he should just start dating someone from there. It’ll save him a few steps, and I think they’d be a little less likely to leave him for Balthazar Getty.

Here’s Rhys and Kimberly on their way to Spearmint Rhinos strip club on July 31st. Images thanks to WENN.

Is Sienna Miller having a secret affair with Balthazar Getty?

Sienna Miller seems intent on carrying on her string of bad relationship decisions. The actress has taken up with married father of four Balthazar Getty, an actor on the ABC show Brothers and Sisters. They were introduced to each other last summer, and started spending a good deal of time with each other at the Chateau Marmont in March and April. News of the World has a very detailed account of the pair’s relationship, including what appears to be a day-by-day near stalking of the couple, along with pictures.

Sexy Brit actress Sienna Miller is secretly on the Edge Of Love with a married multi-millionaire oil heir, we can reveal. The rampant movie beauty has been enjoying romantic nights with tycoon actor and dad-of-four Balthazar Getty after dumping heartbroken Notting Hill star Rhys Ifans earlier this month. The besotted pair have been holed up together day and night in Hollywood after his heartbroken wife fled the country with their kids.

Despite playing a cat and mouse game to stay out of the headlines they have been spotted secretly meeting at restaurants near their hillside hideaway. A source revealed: “They went to great pains to find a place where they thought nobody would find them. They daren’t go out together, so they spend most of their time inside. When they do leave, they go separately.”

In one rendezvous on Thursday, 26-year-old Sienna drove to a restaurant while former heroin addict Getty, 33, even cycled there to try to avoid being spotted with her. Now Getty’s clothes designer wife Rosetta has run away to Italy with their four children —the youngest born only eight months ago—after rumbling her wandering husband.

And pals say lovestruck Sienna has even used her ex-boyfriend and Edge Of Love co-star Matthew Rhys as a smokescreen for their romance… trying to give the impression she might be back with HIM after her split from 39-year-old Ifans.

[From News of the World]

I have no idea what “rumbling” means in this context, but it can’t be good. Even though it made me giggle. Thank heavens for ever-evolving British slang. Supposedly Sienna broke up with ex-boyfriend Rhys Ifans because she wanted to “do the right thing” before stuff went further with Balthazar. Apparently the right thing only has to do with her relationship, and not Getty’s wife or four kids.

What a seedy situation. You can check out the News of the Word’s play-by-play of the couple’s secret relationship. The Huffington Post picked up the story as well, so it sounds like it’s pretty legit. Sienna Miller makes such poor relationship choices. Rhys Ifans seemed to be a notable exception. He was head over heels for her, and it was absolutely adorable. She seems like someone who will have to repeat her mistakes a couple times before she learns the lesson… if she can learn it.

Sienna Miller broke up with Rhys Ifans over the phone

After a feeble attempt to quash breakup rumors by going on in an interview about how great her relationship with Rhys is and how they love to stay home and eat together, Sienna Miller is said to have broke up with the homely actor over the phone.

Supposedly Rhys Ifans, 39, was jealous of Sienna’s ex boyfriend, coincidentally named Matthew Rhys, The new Rhys’ obsessive behavior and mistrust of Sienna’s relationship with the old Rhys is said to have driven her away. The 26 year-old actress called Ifans on the set of his film and told him it’s over:

The blonde Alfie star broke the bad news to Welshman Ifans in a tearful phone call last weekend.

She blamed her decision on their long-distance relationship, during which Ifans became suspicious that she had rekindled her romance with Matthew.

But Sienna, 26, insists she and her ex are just good friends — even though she has seen a lot more of Matthew during her regular trips to LA in recent months.

Heartbroken Rhys, 39, received the bad news on the Bristol set of his new film The Boat That Rocked.

A source said: “Sienna broke the news at the weekend in a call from Prague.

“Things have been awkward for a while after she caught Rhys going through her text messages.

“She went bananas and Rhys said he was looking for what he called ‘incriminating evidence’. He has been giving her a hard time lately, questioning her commitment to him and the time she puts into the relationship.

[From The Sun]

This is why many actresses are guarded and choose to only give general comments about their relationships or not talk about them at all. It’s foolish to go on about the private details of your life that may change at any time. It does get you on the cover of magazines, though.

Sienna Miller and Rhys Ifans are shown on 5/10/08 out in London, thanks to WENN.

Sienna Miller is ready to break off her engagement to Rhys Ifans

The unlikely pairing of Brit actress Sienna Miller, best known for dating Jude Law back when he was marginally hot, and her alleged fiance, “Notting Hill” actor Rhys Ifans, may be on the rocks. Rumors are flying that Sienna’s work schedule and her trademark flirting and partying are causing Rhys to show his jealous streak- and Sienna is ready to call the whole thing off.

Sienna Miller and Rhys Ifans are reportedly on the verge of a split.

Hot on the heels of engagement rumors, Sienna is said to be struggling to cope with Rhys’ possessiveness; and his behavior reminds her of ‘controlling’ ex-boyfriend Jude Law.

A source says, “Rhys gets very jealous – he hates her socializing with other men and always wants to know where she is and who she’s with. During a row she yelled at him: ‘It’s just like being with Jude’.

“Rhys freaked out, because he prides himself on being the laid-back opposite of Jude. But he just gets worked up seeing men admiring his girlfriend and trying to hit on her.”

Tensions between the pair have worsened due to work commitments. Sienna has been filming GI Joe in America while Rhys has been working in the UK.

“They had a huge bust up recently,” the friend added.

“Sienna promised to spend a week with Rhys. He arranged his filming schedule, but at the last minute she canceled her trip, saying she had to work. Rhys hit the roof when he called her and found out she was partying in LA.”

Another source said, “It’s awful but everyone who knows them can just see it coming a mile off.

“Rhys still seems madly in love with her but everyone’s speculating Sienna has grown out of the relationship.”

“It’s almost painful to see them gone from being this 24/7 love-fest to him looking as if he’s struggling to keep her attention. It’s so sad.”

[From Showbiz Spy]

It’s got to be difficult to date Sienna Miller- especially when you look like a hobo. But Rhys had to know what he was in for with Sienna- the woman is a serial skank who changes men like most of us change our underpants, and probably leaves them worse for wear. As for Sienna, she probably thinks she could do better than Rhys, but if she were smart, she’d realize that she peaked with Jude Law, and it’s all downhill from there.

Picture note by Celebitchy: Sienna Miller and Rhys Ifans are shown on 5/10/08 out in London. They went to lunch and stopped at a store called “Dragons” which looks suspiciously like a baby store but also has non-child furniture. Sienna is said to have bought a stuffed pig.

Sienna Miller’s been proposed to 5 times

top-spx-013400.jpg

Most of the entertainment blogs seem to have a strong dislike of Sienna Miller. I can’t recall ever reading anything good about her – but the dislike seems so strong that I almost feel badly about her. I couldn’t really figure out what she’s done that makes everyone think she’s so awful, and yet I have an instinctive dislike towards her too. Apparently she’s been dating British actor Rhys Ifans for a few months, but has gone to great lengths to keep the relationship under wraps, and avoids being seen with him in public. The two met after Sienna dated one of his best friends, Matthew Rhys, who she met on the set of “The Edge of Love.” Matthew Rhys no longer speaks to his former BFF Rhys Ifans, accusing him of sealing Sienna from him. Lovely. Ifans is supposedly over the moon about Sienna, and has proposed to her five times. She, on the other hand, won’t even publicly acknowledge their relationship. Sounds like a match made in heaven.

Sienna Miller’s new love Rhys Ifans has asked her to marry him five times. Sienna – who has constantly denied she is dating Rhys, despite the pair frequently being pictured together – isn’t taking their romance seriously, while the ‘Notting Hill’ actor is “besotted” with her and desperate for them to wed. A source said: “Their romance has been a big secret for months now. Friends believe Sienna sees the relationship as a bit of fun, while Rhys has fallen in love. Rhys wants the world to know but Sienna was keen to play it down – even though she usually flaunts her romances. “He is besotted, totally in love. He can’t believe his luck. He has already asked Sienna to marry him about five times but Sienna just laughs it off. “His friends are worried that she will break his heart when someone better comes along.”

The source added to Britain’s Daily Mirror newspaper: “Rhys Ifans’ name is mud among his former band of Welsh acting buddies. They all think it is disgraceful behaviour that he stole someone else’s girl.” Sienna’s close friends are certain the relationship will not last because Rhys parties too much and lives “like a student”. One friend said: “He blows everything he earns on going out and drinking. He lives like a total student. His place is a mess. He has lots of really weird habits.”

[From Female First]

It sounds like Sienna Miller’s friends are snobs, but that’s not a big surprise. Rhys played Hugh Grant’s odd, bumbling roommate in “Notting Hill.” The two don’t really make much sense to me as a couple, and I feel badly for the guy. Anyone who would propose five times, get shot down five times, and still stick around has got to be “crazy in love” as Beyonce would say. Sienna doesn’t seem like the type whose ever close to ready to settle down yet. Hopefully she’ll break it off before she completely breaks the guy.
