Demi Lovato changes her hair from cherry red to blonde: pretty or washed out?

Demi Lovato, whose Twitter account reveals that she’s suddenly made like Goop and decided to cleanse her little pop star colon (“Away on a mind and body cleansing retreat!! This is exciting.“), tweeted a new photo of herself over the weekend with newly blonde locks. This is quite a different look for her, and I’m not sure whether or not I like the newly blonde version of Demi as much as her usual dark brown locks. Although I do prefer the blonde shade more than the cherry red of Demi’s recent hair days; the red shade was one that’s seldom seen in nature and looked okay against the flashbulbs of the People’s Choice Awards red carpet but took on a ghastly glow in candids a few weeks later:

While Demi is away on her cleansing retreat (yuck), her estranged father, Patrick Lovato, is swiftly pulling a Michael Lohan. The 19-year-old singer/actress and her father have not spoken for over a decade, but that hasn’t stopped Patrick from talking to the press and taking it upon himself to self-diagnose all of Demi’s emotional and eating disorder issues. At the moment, however, Patrick is facing cancer surgery and just wants to talk to his daughter, so (naturally) he put out a plea through Radar Online:

Demi Lovato’s estranged father is facing a dangerous surgery to remove a tumor in his throat and he’s heartbroken over the fact that his daughter refuses to speak to him.

Patrick Lovato spoke exclusively to RadarOnline.com, pleading for his youngest daughter to give him a call.

“Demi and I haven’t spoken in so long and all I want her to do is call her daddy,” Patrick tearfully said. “I’m begging her the only way I know how. I want to talk with her so badly.”

The former Disney star and her older sister Dallas have been estranged from their father for over a decade.

“We were so close when she was little,” Patrick said. “My little daughter was my partner, I just love her so much.”

Patrick lives alone now, following the death of his beloved dog Dakota, and says that he still holds out hope that he and Demi can repair their relationship.

“I want Demi to know that I would do anything in the world for my little girl, I just want to hear her voice,” Patrick cried. “Demi, please call your daddy!”

[From Radar Online]

I generally figure that — barring extreme cases of parental alienation — there’s a really good reason why children choose to stop speaking to their parents. In this case, there are likely several reasons why Demi and her mother cut this guy out of their lives, and I imagine that some of Demi’s ongoing emotional issues (including engaging in self-mutilation) have to do with what went on during her early childhood. She’s written song lyrics that would point towards Patrick being an alcoholic, so there’s at least one clue. While I do feel for the guy wanting to talk to his daughter before surgery, trying to guilt Demi through the press is no way to achieve that goal.

Lea Michele versus Demi Lovato: who looked worse in busted, awful Marchesa?

Lea Michele won big at last night’s People’s Choice Awards. She took home “Favorite TV Comedy Actress” which she treated like an Oscar, she was so pleased with herself. Ugh. HER FACE. I know that’s so rude and I’m going to hell in hand basket already, so just let me say that whenever I see Lea Michele’s face, my immediate thought is “SMACK.” As for her dress – well, if you didn’t immediately recognize the ice skater hideousness, it’s totally Marchesa. It looks so much like that horrible Marchesa dress that Blake Lively wore a few months ago. WHAT IS WITH THE STRINGS? Why does every Marchesa dress have to involve so much g–damn fringe?

And since we’re talking about how awful Marchesa is, let’s talk about Demi Lovato’s dress too – it was Marchesa. Pageant dress. Except that it’s like a really budget, cheap pageant dress that a contestant for Miss America wouldn’t even touch. This is dress for Miss Orange County or something. Awful. It’s not even a good color on Demi! She needs something bolder, not a pastel. Also – I’ve never noticed Demi’s booty before. She’s got a cute butt, and a really nice, curvy shape.

Did Demi Lovato and Wilmer Valderrama finally (hopefully) break up?

Have I ever mentioned before how predatory Wilmer Valderrama appears to the naked eye? I mean, he’s so notorious that there should really be a show called, “To Catch A Wilmer.” Yet the dude is so crafty and keen to not actually cross that line, so he goes for the barely-legal Disney types. And he might be pretty hard to physically catch given his tendency to be snapped by the paparazzi while out for a run as he was here in Miami in mid December.

Anyway, Wilmer loves to snatch up vulnerable girls when they’re riding high from their respective Disney affiliations but have yet to prove themselves in other career capacities. It’s like a convenient downdraft before the perfect storm of Wilmer manipulation. He famously dated Lindsay Lohan in 2004 right when she started to get into big trouble and ended up randomly hospitalized for “exhaustion” and whatnot. Then he went inactive and undetected for awhile before setting his sights on Demi Lovato and proceeding to screw up her fragile mind. The two have gone a few rounds in the on-again, off- again, baby-come-back ring, and it’s all been such a terrible idea considering Demi is in recovery for an eating disorder and other emotional issues.

Now it appears that Demi and Wilmer may have broken up yet again, if clues from her Twitter are to be believed:

Well, it was weird while it lasted.

On-the-DL couple Demi Lovato and Wilmer Valderrama have parted ways, a source confirms to E! News.

Lovato’s rep has always been—and continues to be—mum on the subject, but we’re hearing that the age gap (she’s 19, he’s 31) just proved uncrossable for the duo.

Meanwhile, though she never officially admitted to dating her longtime friend, Lovato did post a couple of suspect tweets today…

First, she retweeted another girl’s tweet, a Marilyn Monroe quotation reading, “A wise girl kisses but doesn’t love, listens but doesn’t believe, and leaves before she is left.”

Then Lovato added herself, “The smartest thing a woman can ever learn, is to never need a man.”

News of the split—not to mention the cryptic tweets—comes after Valderrama randomly added Lovato’s ex, Joe Jonas, to his inner circle. The duo spent New Year’s weekend in Vegas partying together, and then the following Saturday night they were both at Beacher’s Madhouse revue in Hollywood, though Jonas made himself scarce once Lovato showed up at around 1:30 a.m.

Valderrama’s shoulder was said to be the one she cried on in the wake of her split from Jonas back in 2010.

[From E! Online]

I hope they’re done for good and that Demi doesn’t want Wilmer back. Oddly enough, she has been flirting a bit via Twitter with Pete Wentz:

Pete isn’t so bad, really. Even if he is a bit douchey, he’s much more worthy of dating than Wilmer. Ugh, Wilmer is just so reprehensible, and now the dude’s gotten his claws into Joe Jonas. The question remains though — will Joe be Wilmer’s next victim?

Demi Lovato angrily tweets at Disney over eating disorder joke

Perhaps against my better judgment, I like Demi Lovato quite a bit. I’m not particularly fond of her crazy hats and apparent 1980s Madonna style fetish, but she’s a pretty good egg for a Disney kid and a girl who seemingly can’t help but constantly fall back into Wilmer Valderrama’s arms. Talk about a potentially fatal flaw, right?

Still, Demi has a very decent set of wits about her and has admitted when she’s been out of line in the past. She’s also in the very precarious process of recovering from an eating disorder, which she talked about at great length and for which she suffers horrible comments after gaining back some much needed weight. So it comes as great news to learn that Demi stook up against the House of Mouse and called out a very tasteless eating-disorder joke made by a character on the “Shake It Up” show — a revolting program filled with brats that deserves to be called out for a lot more:

Demi Lovato’s health has improved since seeking treatment for “emotional and physical issues” a year ago, but the topic of food is still a sensitive one.

After watching a recent episode of the Disney Channel’s “Shake It Up,” the actress, 19, took to Twitter to express her anger and disapproval after a character made the comment, “I could just eat you up, well, if I ate,” in jest.

“What are we promoting here? #notfunnyATALL,” she Tweeted on Friday. “I find it really funny how a company can lose one of their actress’ from the pressures of an EATING DISORDER and yet still make [a] joke about [it].”

And the network took notice.

Later that day, Lovato got a response from a Disney Channel rep, who said they were pulling the episode she originally referred to, along with an episode of So Random! that also pokes fun at food issues.

“It’s NEVER our intention to make light of eating disorders!” @DisneyChanelPR wrote shortly after Lovato’s comments.

The “Skyscraper” singer thanked the network, but added that she misses the days when actresses like Raven-Symoné and Hilary Duff were on the channel because now everyone on it seems to be “getting THINNER AND THINNER.”

[From People]

Don’t you love how Disney Channel’s PR immediately responded when Demi brought the issue to light? They should know what’s on their programs and catch this crap before the script even makes it into the hands of its actors. But of course it takes one of their former sitcom stars calling them out to take even the slightest notice of a problem that could (and does) influence far too many young girls. Shame on Disney Channel and good for Demi.

Demi Lovato’s provocative gown at the Latin Grammys: too mature and low-cut?

wenn3604020

Last night, the Latin Grammys were held. It didn’t look like that amazing of an event, and fashion-wise, it was super-boring. There were some good “gets” but they didn’t really bring it sartorially. The biggest “whoa” of the evening was probably Demi Lovato in this super-low-cut dress. She’s 19 years old, and this feels so wrong, right? It’s too much. Or too little, however you want to say it. Too exposed, too much flesh, too much boobage. Gross. I don’t even like her newly red hair either. Go dark and cover up, Demi!

wenn3603993

And like the shark in Jaws, Wilmer Valderrama lurks behind Demi, in her wake, waiting to feed on his young prey. I loathe him so much. He has date-rape face.

wenn3604670

Shakira was there! Her dress is so pageanty and boring. Her hair was bad too.

latin_grammys_24_wenn3604007

Here’s Sofia Vergara in Reem Acra – the dress is lovely, albeit a bit boring on her. Still, the woman is gorgeous and THAT BODY. Insane. Fun fact: she’s wearing jewelry from her own “K-Mart fine jewelry collection”. Nice.

wenn3604154

Zoe Saldana in green Elie Saab. This is really gorgeous on her – note this is the same shade of green as Gwyneth Paltrow wore last night too, but on Zoe, it’s stunning. Plus, the cut of the dress is amazing. This is maybe my favorite thing she’s ever worn.

Demi Lovato & Wilmer Valderrama are “back together”: bad idea?

wenn5737601

Demi Lovato, best known as the Jennifer Aniston to Ashley Greene’s Angelina Jolie, still has serious man issues. A little backstory: right after Joe Jonas dumped Demi for Ashley Greene, Demi rebounded with Wilmer Valderrama. Wilmer was sort-of/kind-of Demi’s boyfriend when she went crazy and went for “rehab” for issues that probably extended beyond the eating disorder that her publicist admits to. When Demi got of rehab (and while she was still an out-patient), she began seeing Wilmer again. And then something happened (God knows what) and Demi started quietly boning Ryan Phillippe. Of course, Demi and Ryan went nowhere, but with those two men, we can establish a pattern, can’t we? Demi likes older douches, the kind of douches who “prey” on very young, inexperienced girls with emotional problems. Anyway, according to Life & Style, Demi has gone back to Wilmer. Oh, Demi.

Demi Lovato and Wilmer Valderrama are giving love another go! Life & Style can exclusively reveal that on Oct. 22 the on-again, off-again couple were spotted getting hot and heavy at Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane’s house party in LA.

“They showed up together and made no effort to hide that they’re back together,” an eyewitness inside the party tells Life & Style. “They were stealing kisses throughout the night, holding hands and just seemed to enjoy being together.”

The “Skyscraper” singer, 19, and the 31-year-old former star of That ’70s Show, have broken up twice since they began dating in 2010, but this time they didn’t leave each other’s side all night. “Demi couldn’t seem happier about it!” the eyewitness tells Life & Style.

“They were dirty-dancing to the music, and when they were seated, Wilmer had his hands on Demi’s knee the entire time,” the eyewitness reveals. “He was being very boyfriend-like and affectionate.”

Demi famously dated Wilmer before her time in rehab to treat physical and emotional issues last November.

“Treatment was the best decision that I ever made, and it saved my life,” Demi says. “I feel a lot better, and I feel like now that I’m able to speak about it, I’m able to help younger girls with their issues they’re dealing with and that makes me feel like a role model.”

[From Life & Style]

Demi, we need to talk. Girl, look, I understand. I have also consistently liked older men, even when I was a teenager. It doesn’t have to be all Courtney Stodden, Sketchy Teenage Bride, nor do you have to limit yourself to the low-hanging fruit of these douchey “older men”. Honey, you’re 19 years old. If you’re so obsessed with going out with an older guy, give yourself an age limit – no more than 10 years older, how about that? No older than 29. And take the time and effort to find a dude who isn’t impregnating randoms (Ryan Phillippe) or some kind of a–hole who is obsessed with only sleeping with virgins (Wilmer). Find some nice guy who has gone to college or something. Date someone outside of the industry. And for the love of God, aim higher than Wilmer Valderrama.

Demi Lovato: “I thought that orange juice was going to make me fat”

fp_7798154_rij_2011_vma_set1_62_152

I really like Demi Lovato. Well, I’m not crazy about her music, but I like Demi as a role model for young girls. She certain hasn’t had the easiest run of things in the past few years, and has done the rehab thing for her emotional issues and an eating disorder, but she appears to have taken her treatment very seriously. Since leaving inpatient rehab, Demi has spoken out on cutting and bullying and admitted that she was completely out of line during the height of her issues. Now, Demi is promoting her upcoming tour and gives a few more details about her bulimia, friendship, trust, and fame:

fp_7703013_rij_2011_teenchoice_set1_44_123

On Her 5X Daily Bulimic Binges: I think at the worst it was a little more than that. I was just so sick. I thought that orange juice was going to make me fat.

On Selena Gomez Calling Her At Rehab: I think I was out of tears at that point [Selena] called me and she was crying, she was like, “Hello.” I’m like, “Why are you crying? I’m the one in treatment – like, I should be crying. She’s like, “Are they treating you OK?” I was like, ‘Yeah, they’re treating me great.” She’s definitely one of my closest friends and no matter what, we’ll always be close as sisters. We met 12 years ago, that’s more than half of my life.

On Talking About Recovery: I just realized that once I went into the treatment center, pretty much anything and everything was going to come out anyway. At the same time, I wanted to help other people who shared my issues.

On Her Fans’ Responses: I’ve been getting really great responses. Some of my fans have said that because I’ve been able to speak about my issues, that they’re not afraid to speak about theirs, which is an amazing feeling.

On Her Biggest Life Lesson So Far: Just be to be careful who you trust. Sometimes you don’t know who you can and cannot trust. I still learn that over and over again. The best way to deal with that is just to keep your chin up and stay strong and turn the other cheek. Kill ‘em with kindness.

On Touring I’m so excited to get back on the road. With this tour, I’ll be playing piano and guitar and dancing to songs from my new album. I’m in a much happier and healthier place now, so I’ll be able to decide when I need time off. It’s a different era in my career. I’m sure that if I need time off I’ll be able to speak about it and I’ll take a step back.

[From Parade and Daily Mail]

Some people might think that Demi could be using her issues merely to promote her music career, but I think there’s much more to it than that. Especially with all of the pro-bulimia websites (which actually give tips on how to binge and purge like a pro) that exist, it’s very important that Demi is using her position to tell her impressionable young female fans how horrible the disease really is. While she occasionally stumbles and lets the world know that weight-related comments really bother her, I hope she continues on her current path. Obviously, she doesn’t look fat at all; in fact, Demi looks fantastic.

Demi Lovato gracefully breaks free of Disney shell, unlike Miley Cyrus

wenn5723796

Disney child stars might make a ton of money in a few short years, but they certainly don’t have a very easy time in the maturation department where their continuing career success is concerned. Just look at Miley Cyrus, who made many millions of dollars as a pre-packaged entity, “Hannah Montana,” but has faltered since turning 18 by taking “growing up” to extremes; that is, she abruptly sexed up her image and lost revenue in the process:

wenn5684930-682x1024

miley_cyrus_2_wenn3084084

In sharp contrast to Miley’s approach to adulthood, Demi Lovato, who just turned 19 a few weeks ago, has celebrated by releasing her third album, Unbroken, which critics have stated is a successful step towards maturity without alienating her younger fans too. This album’s release arrives eight months after Demi finished rehab for bulimia and cutting issues, and she’s since accepted responsibility for her past diva-related actions. Since then, she’s given a slight indication that she is still vulnerable to criticism over her weight, but Demi appears to have gained steadfast control over her musical career. Unbroken vaulted to the top of the iTunes charts within mere hours, and this commercial success has been bolstered with critical acclaim as well:

A weird thing happens about halfway through Unbroken. It transforms from guest-filled, R&B-oriented dance-pop, the kind one might expect a former Disney princess asserting her adulthood to make, into a series of intimate, sometimes painful confessions, the marks of an artist who’s actually growing up. Instead of sounding disjointed, the changes parallel the 19-year-old’s recent journey, which included a rehab stint to treat bulimia and cutting issues. By the time she hits the ballad Skyscraper, a towering performance that sounds both desperate and determined, she has clearly transitioned from a teen star into a young woman worth listening to.

[From USA Today]

Instead of going too edgy or staying a Disney princess, Demi Lovato’s Unbroken, which drops Tuesday, is a perfectly mature album without scaring away the teens that grew up loving the Camp Rock star.

Unbroken represents the opportunity to wipe clean several slates, something Ms. Lovato is well suited for. She’s long been the least musically predictable of her Disney class, which also includes the Jonas Brothers and Miley Cyrus. Her albums – Don’t Forget from 2008, and especially Here We Go Again, released the next year – were the savviest of the group’s, full of biting and aggressive pop-rock.

[From New York Times]

Instead of going too edgy or staying a Disney princess, Demi Lovato’s Unbroken, which drops Tuesday, is a perfectly mature album without scaring away the teens that grew up loving the “Camp Rock” star.

[From MTV]

There are two ways for pop stars to make a Survivor Album: either power-sing through your problems like Christina Aguilera, or make like Rihanna and dance till you forget what you’re supposed to be getting over. On her first release since checking out of rehab, Demi Lovato wants to have it both ways. Clearly it’s been a tough year for Lovato. But as Rihanna could tell her, sometimes bad years make great songs.

[From CNN]

On Tuesday at midnight, Demi bought her own copy of Unbroken at Best Buy. She was greeted outside by thousands of fans and reportedly gave the following statement: “A year ago I was not in a good place, and I needed help. There are so many beautiful girls in this audience that don’t know that they’re beautiful, and they are.” She also expressed gratitude to her fans for “being there for me every single day when I was away.” Not bad for a Disney kid, but it’s also not unexpected for one that also managed write most of her own songs along the way. While Demi’s music (including Unbroken‘s lead single, “Skyscraper”) isn’t exactly my cuppa, I wish her continued success and hope that she keeps making great strides in her personal life too. Miley could certainly take a few notes from Demi’s playbook as well.

Demi Lovato: “I’ve gained weight. Get over it.”

wenn3485193
Demi Lovato recently took to Twitter to address some comments after the VMAs that she had gained weight recently. She wroteI’ve gained weight. Get over it. That’s what happens when you get out of treatment for AN EATING DISORDER.” Then she deleted that (after #DemiLovato became a trending topic) and added another tweet that didn’t sound as defensive. She wrote “Guess what, I’m healthy and happy, and if you’re hating on my weight you obviously aren’t. :) #UNBROKEN” It must be frustrating to have people comment on your weight as a celebrity, but she could have ignored it. As it is, it sounded like it bothered her quite a bit. She told Seventeen in April that she doesn’t “let anyone’s insecurities, emotions, or opinions bother me.” She’s admitted that she struggles with bulimia and with cutting.

wenn3485184
She looks great figure-wise and to me the issue is that her dress was too short and revealing and that her makeup was overdone. Her tatas were pushed up and hanging out and that dress was just fug. She’s looked cuter recently at other events. (See below) There’s something really smug about her look at the VMAs, but sometimes she looks much happier and relaxed on the red carpet.

The issue for Demi may have been that her ex Joe Jonas was there that night and she could have been anxious about it. Before Demi had her rehab stint for emotional issues she was dating Joe Jonas and touring with him and his band. Then they broke up, Joe started dating Ashley Greene and Demi was still touring with Joe and the guys. Demi freaked out and punched a backup dancer for some slight last December and got pulled off the tour and sent to rehab. She’s admitted that she was out of line and that she had a nervous breakdown, but she doesn’t blame Joe for it or anything. She told Elle last month “I wouldn’t credit my meltdown to a guy. There was so much other stuff in my life.

wenn3485148
If Demi was nervous about seeing Joe though she didn’t seem to show it. She posed for photos with him at the VMAs and as Just Jared points out that wasn’t the first time they’ve run into each other at an industry function recently. So she seems to be handling it all pretty well. Except when she feels the need to defend herself. I get it, but the best way to deal is to ignore it, if possible. When I grew up we didn’t have twitter or cell phones though. Now it’s all about the chatter while some of us are still playing by the old rules. Do they even still apply? Not if you’re looking for press coverage or twitter feedback I guess.

All these photos are from July and August this year except for the last one, in the white dress with the side tail thing. That’s from August, 2010. I don’t see that much of a difference and she looks great now.

VMAs Disney kids fashion: Miley, Selena, Demi, Justin & not a cute outfit among them

fp_7798161_rij_2011_vma_set
We’re trying to figure out how to break up the “fashion” from last night’s VMAs, and I put fashion in quotes because no one really brought it, in my opinion. First off we have Miley Cyrus in a curious light blue Cavalli gown that mixed some kind of tiger/leopard/tree bark print at the bodice with a floral Asian motif along the skirt. At least it was demure, I’ll give her that, but it looked even worse from the back with that weird pattern continuing down in a thick stripe and clashing with the flowers. She paired it with some big dangling gemstone earrings and a diamond Lorraine Schwartz necklace, and it was over accessorized. She looked really happy and relaxed though. I find Miley very likable lately.

wenn3485043

fp_7798166_rij_2011_vma_set

Demi Lovato’s little silver Mandalay dress was way too tight, low cut and flashy. She’s probably going for “grown up” but it just makes the mom in me kick in and want to tell her to go back up to her room, wipe some of that gunk off her face and cover up. She turned 19 a month ago, though, so I guess it’s her prerogative. At least it’s not another mullet dress.

wenn3485205

wenn3485450

Speaking of mullet dresses, little Selena Gomez committed that offense yet again. She looks like a newly introduced teen vampire on a CW show who’s about to get a three episode story arc before biting it in a disgusting blood-spewing death scene. She wore this gothic Julien Macdonald lace number. The high neckline with the lace, the sparkly vines and the feather-like parts is just bizarre. It also features cut-out lace sections around the bodice. Justin must have been staring at her cleavage all night in that ugly dress.

wenn3485290

wenn3485267

It looks passable from the side I guess.

wenn3485286

And finally Justin Bieber tried to work a casual look in a black blazer, loose red pants, leopard-print sneakers and sexy librarian glasses. He won best male video for “You Smile.” In his acceptance speech he thanked God then Jesus “because, you know, I wouldn’t be here without him. He’s really blessed me, put me in this position.” Then he said he was sharing his award with all the other nominees. Here’s his acceptance speech, which was full of award show cliches but gratefully short. Justin brought a little pet snake with him for some reason, and he said the snake’s name was Johnson. So stupid.
