Sharon Stone in Roberto Cavalli at the Cannes amfAR gala: nearly flawless?

Sharon Stone

Sharon Stone has been killing it in Roberto Cavalli at Cannes this year, and her turn as emcee at the amfAR gala was no exception. AmfAR is Sharon’s baby, and part of the attraction for this gala is that Sharon shows up looking great but behaving in a totally sloshed manner while she leads the auction. It’s entertaining, and there are usually a few onstage ass grabs and some overaffectionate kisses involved.

Sharon seemed to keep a lid on it last night though and didn’t appear totally wasted, and she looked so beautiful in this Cavalli gown that was so sleek that it hugged every curve on her well-maintained body. She got a little bit overzealous with the bronzer, but damn, I’d love to look this good at age 55. The best part of the dress is the back! I don’t even like gold, but the back of this dress is stunning.

Sharon Stone

Sharon Stone

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley was my pick for favorite of the night. She wore a very cute and flirty Christian Dior dress that kept it simple and strapless up top and floated down to a flattering asymmetrical hemline. Her wavy, romantic hair and slightly smokey makeup here are likewise perfect. Sometimes I forget how pretty Rosie really is, but this ensemble brings out all of the highlights. Rosie also walked the catwalk in a bold gold dress that — I think — is Alexander McQueen.

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley

Heidi Klum looked like an utter mess, of course. She almost always wears Marchesa to amfAR Cannes, and she kept the awful dream alive here. This is one hellaciously ugly white and gold specimen. While the bust area of the dress is unflattering, maybe it wouldn’t have been so awful if someone tore off the sheer overlay, but if that happened, it would no longer qualify as a Marchesa piece. Yuck.

Heidi Klum

Melanie Laurent looked so cute in basic black that flattered her now-prominent baby bump. She’s such a beautiful woman, and I’m sad that she’s not a bigger draw in the United States. Maybe someday.

Melanie Laurent

Paz Vega wore a black Vionnet made out of jersey material and topped with spaghetti straps. I like this a lot more than I probably should considering that this was a gala. Paz has the perfect figure to pull off this dress, and she kept it simple while adding bold makeup and a sleek, shiny hairdo. Gorgeous.

Paz Vega

Milla Jovovich seems a bit off this year at Cannes. Usually, she goes with some old school glamour or an equally dramatic look, but she fades into the background with this fluffy Valentino couture gown. The color isn’t quite blush pink, right? This is more of an off-white gown with so many tiered ruffles and beaded bits of floral embroidery that the look is really one of overkill. Without the sheer sleeves, this gown might have been passable, but the sleeves make the dress look matronly. I’m not digging the braided updo either, and Milla seems so muted here in terms of personality too.

Milla Jovovich

Karolina Kurkova looked dreadful while wearing a Cavalli cut-out gown that made her look a lot hippier than her natural shape. The serpent bracelet is a cool touch though.

Karolina Kurkova

Finally, here’s our breath of fresh air for the evening, Christoph Waltz. He looks a bit troubled as if he’s wondering, “What are all these bitches wearing? And …. oh nooooo, here comes Sharon Stone for an ass grab!”

Tara Reid overdoes the bronzer at the amFar gala: ridiculous or kind of cute?

Tara Reid

Tara Reid has been leading the bad fashion parade all week at Cannes, and last night’s AmfAR’s Cinema Against AIDS gala was no exception. Here Tara showed up again with Fawaz Gruosi, her possible 60ish-year-old boyfriend or “arranged companion” or whatever. All we really know is that the dude is a billionare and is far too tan for his own good. Speaking of which, Tara might have been trying to fit in better because she’s wearing a ton of bronzer. While Tara’s grey embroidered dress wasn’t as bad as the one she wore at the de Grisogono bash, this gown committed the ultimate fashion sin of being boring as hell. Tara could’ve dressed it up a bit with a high ponytail, but she chose instead to go with the boring bun. The better to see the drunkness and the overdone bronzer, I guess.

Tara Reid

Tara Reid

Jessie J

Jessie J wore a Louis Heal gown that I probably would have liked a lot more if it were a solid color instead of a leopard print. The asymmetrical slash across the top of the dress is only for effect because the underlying color doesn’t match Jessie’s skintone, and there’s no cleavage shining through for all to enjoy. However, that slit all the way up the leg is the real deal because check out what happens when she walks! That was almost a booty flash. Jessie’s black ankle booties are funky and fun too.

Jessie J

Milla Jovovich

Milla Jovovich seems slightly improved from her other disastrous Cannes looks in this Atelier Versace gown. I like that she paired her accessories to match the grey-silver-gold metallic fabric of the dress, but the molded bustier cups are seriously freaking me out. The dress also looks rather uncomforable with a corset and boning effect, but sure, it’s better than the rest of the stuff she’s worn this week. Otherwise, Milla does seem really “off” at Cannes this year, and I’m wondering if she’s possibly been replaced by one of the Alice clones from the Resident Evil movies. Either that or she’s gotten some work done on her face, which would be a shame, but hopefully Milla learned something from her vaneer catastrophe and won’t mess with her gorgeous face.

Milla Jovovich

Milla Jovovich

Berenice Bejo

Berenice Bejo wore a Giambattista Valli couture gown with a weather-appropriate orange white print, and she carried one of the Olympia Le Tan “book” clutches. I am not in love with this dress at all, and I think the boring hair and makeup do it no favors either. Such a lackluster look from such a beautiful woman.

Heidi Klum, Tara Reid & Milla Jovovich at the de Grisogono bash: who looked worse?

Heidi Klum

The interesting thing about the Cannes Film Festival is that the attendees range from bona fide, A-list movie stars to a bunch of (barely) C-list party girls, who are mostly there for the late-night bashes and to rub shoulders with eligible or semi-eligible rich dudes. So last night’s Cannes de Grisogono party was a sight to behold with a wide range of red-carpet walkers.

Heidi Klum wore a black, slinky, low-cut gown with bizarre, dragonfly-inspired earrings and bracelet. The dress is rather shapeless, and Heidi’s eyeliner is too heavy. Perhaps the look would have beens lightly better if she’d opted for tumbling locks instead of a severely-pulled back look. I’m consistently amazed at how a supermodel who hosts her own fashion-based television program can get it so wrong most of the time.

Heidi Klum

Tara Reid

Tara Reid is still prowling around (and is probably drunk) as well. I have no earthly idea why she’d wear a dress that looks like this. This gold-embelleshed, sheer monstrosity must have been picked out by that 60-year-old jewelry designer who is (allegedly) paying her way throughout the festival.

Kelly Brook

Kelly Brook probably won this red carpet contest at this party with a snug red gown that covered up most of her assets yet revealed a sizeable portion of her back. Not everyone can get away with peplum, but Kelly pulls it off marvelously.

Kelly Brook

Milla Jovovich

Milla Jovovich still seems really “off” this year at Cannes, where she usually brings it in a huge way. Here, she’s going for old school glamour and does better than she did with her sloppy On the Road premiere look, but that’s not saying much.

Milla Jovovich

Paris and Nicky Hilton

Paris and Nicky Hilton went for vastly different dresses, and the result was … interesting. Paris actually doesn’t look terrible here even though her gown’s fabric might have been pulled from the curtains of the Waldorf Astoria. Nicky looks uncomfortable as hell in this black leather number with matching stiletto heels. Ouch.

Nicky Hilton

Paris Hilton

Ivana Trump

Ivana Trump demonstrates quite well that money doesn’t equate to class. Without even taking that awful dress into consideration, the jewels, the eyeliner, and the lips all add up to way too much tackiness.

Ivana Trump

Victoria Silvstedt looks like a cheap hooker in this satiny, pink, floor-length number that truly looks like it belongs in the bedroom. I try to refrain from saying that about anyone, but here Victoria’s earned it.

Milla Jovovich in lilac at ‘On the Road’ Cannes premiere: sloppy or gorgeous?

Milla Jovovich

Kaiser already covered the main players at the Cannes On the Road premiere, and here are some of the other guests on hand on the red carpet.

Milla Jovovich seriously underwhelmed in her lilac, slightly Asian-inspired dress. Usually, I love almost anything she wears because, you know, Milla is known to wear the hell out of almost any gown. She’s one of the only great enduring models (seriously, Milla’s been big since the late 1980s), but here, the look falls flat. This dress is wrinkly and cheap-looking and her hair is sloppy as well. Even Milla’s makeup looks underdone. She usually brings it in a big way at Cannes. What happened here?

Milla Jovovich

Milla Jovovich

At least Milla can work this dress from the back view, but she’s worn such superior looks on countless occasions.

Milla Jovovich

Kate Upton

Kate Upton also looks slightly cheap on the red carpet as well, but that kind of goes with her downmarket vibe. Her dress is nice, but it doesn’t stand out on the red carpet against all of those suits and tuxedoes in the background. Perhaps an updo would’ve grabbed more attention than those loose locks.

Kate Upton

Roxane Mesquida

Finally, here’s someone with an identifiable designer ID! Here’s Roxane Mesquida in a Roberto Cavalli gown, and she looks positively gorgeous here. I love that hairdo (which isn’t exactly versatile but still looks great on her) and the dramatic lipstick. She looks like a dream.

Ewan McGregor

Ewan McGregor and his wife, Eve Mavrakis, walked the red carpet together. Eva looks quite pretty here, and although I do admit to worrying (perhaps unnecessarily) about their marriage, they seem to support each other when it matters most.

Oscar fashion: Did Tina Fey one-up Milla Jovovich in the glamour stakes?

Tina Fey is so funny and self-deprecating but generally bores me to tears on the red carpet. Last night at the Oscars, however, she brought the glamour in a big way in a custom, midnight-blue Carolina Herrera gown with peplum detail and Bulgari jewels. Of her look, Tina said, “I’m just thrilled to be wearing this beatiful dress. At first I feared the peplum and now I love the peplum. Tina was the only star who wore Herrera last night, and she wore it damn well. She also did a variation on big hair with an upswept do that set the dress off perfectly. This is probably my favorite look on Tina ever.

Meanwhile, Milla Jovovich did her usual supermodel thing in a white, beaded Elie Saab gown: “When I saw this dress I just fell in love with it… clean and radiant, and I felt like this color was perfect.” Oddly, the color is the only thing that seems off about this dress, but I do covet the asymmetric look on Milla. She oozes old school Hollywood glamour, but I really feel like she can do this look in her sleep, so it was a little bit underwhelming at the same time. However, Milla’s Jacob & Co jewelry made quite the impact, and her makeup was very dramatic and fitting as well.

Glenn Close, who was nominated for Best Actress for her role in Albert Nobbs, donned a forest-green Zac Posen strapless dress and matching tuxedo jacket. Of course, this look was age appropriate, and she stated that if she won, she’d celebrate by “By staying up later than usual.” Glenn’s Bulgari jewels were gorgeous, but I wish she’d done a little something with her hair.

Missi Pyle (The Artist) wore a a sea-foam green dress by Delfino, which was constructed from recycled materials and silk made from “cruelty free silkworms.” I wasn’t entirely crazy about this dress, but CB liked it. Overall, the hair, makeup, and dress looked a little too sororityish for my tastes, but Missi’s figure looked amazing.

Milla Jovovich rage tweets at Summit for lazy promotion of ‘Three Musketeers’

wenn3543634

The devastatingly gorgeous Milla Jovovich is angry, and when Milla is pissed off, people notice. The actress and star of the new Three Musketeers 3D movie unleashed some frustration upon Summit Entertainment for what she perceived to be a lackluster marketing campaign for her new movie. Regardless of whether or not Milla is correct in her assumptions, the film has debuted at the domestic box office with an abysmal estimated $8.8 million weekend (opening in 4th place after Paranormal Activity 3 and holdovers Real Steel and Footloose), which brings its global total to a mere $57.8 million and probably barely puts a dent in its yet-to-be-revealed but certainly huge budget. Of course, these numbers hadn’t been released (or even conceivable) on Friday, but Milla already knew the score, and she took to her Twitter account to unload on Summit:

millatweets

The always quick-on-the-draw Deadline has already secured a response from Summit:

I asked Summit last night what it thought of Milla’s accusations, and an executive pointed out that the actress had been up in Canada shooting the next Resident Evil installment “and working 15-hour days and probably didn’t see the campaign. She doesn’t know what she’s talking about and we don’t know where she’s coming from.” On the other hand, Jovovich is married to Three Musketeers 3D director Paul W.S. Anderson, so it’s hard to imagine she is completely clueless to how Summit marketed the film. Nevertheless, Summit points to awareness in the 80s as a sure sign that the movie was marketed adequately even if U.S. grosses were terrible. “Wouldn’t you think she would call us first about this? It’s frustrating. it’s not the right way to behave. If she has a problem then come to the studio and talk about it.” Milla was tweeting on her flight to Japan where Three Musketeers 3D is debuting at the Tokyo International Film Festival. I wonder if Summit will cancel her car pickup and strand her at the airport for mouthing off.

[From Deadline]

This is a toughie because I’m generally Team Milla on all things, but she sort of comes off like a brat in these tweets; although I can see from where her frustration stems because she’s not only defending herself but also her husband, Paul W.S. Anderson, who directed Musketeers. It’s also quite easy to jump the gun and assume that Summit has been preoccupied with its promotion of the upcoming Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part I movie because talk of Edward and Bella is pretty inescapable at this point. However, I personally witnessed many television commercials as well as tons of internet promotion for Musketeers too. Everyone sort of assumed that this movie would do well, but at the same time, nobody really wanted to see it either. Quite simply, Musketeers looked pretty craptastic and not in a good, popcorn-munching way either. It also seemed like a gigantic waste of talent in regard to Matthew Macfadyen, Christoph Waltz, Til Schweiger, and Orlando Bloom. This latest incarnation certainly didn’t promise a new approach to the well-treaded story, and releasing a male-geared action adventure flick is seldom a good plan during football season.

Milla was indeed en route to the Tokyo premiere when she unloaded on Summit, but our photo agencies have yet to reveal what she was wearing at the premiere. So these are mostly leftover photos (that we’ve already covered) of the London premiere and (because I couldn’t resist) a couple of photos of her at London Fashion Week and the Cannes AMFAR benefit. And as an afterthought, here’s a few “meh” stills from that Three Musketeers 3D too:

Milla Jovovich in thigh-baring Salvatore Ferragamo: gorgeous or too much?

wenn3543728

Milla Jovovich received a lot of girlcrush love in the comment section yesterday, so let’s continue the trend by discussing her look at the world premiere of The Three Musketeers in London last night. Milla attended with her husband, Paul WS Anderson, who directed the film and looked on adoringly as she killed it in a thigh-baring Salvatore Ferragamo gown and Brian Atwood “Wagner” pumps. With that dress and those accessories, she’s positively gleaming but stops just short of going too far.

wenn5732858

Milla can work just about any dress, but she really brought the glamour this time, didn’t she? Although I must admit that I’m not crazy about the hot pinkish shade of lipstick she chose. Otherwise, she looks fantastic.

wenn3543726

Conspicuously missing from the premiere was one Christoph Waltz, but that might be for the same reason that he missed this week’s Carnage premiere at the New York Film Festival; that is, he suffered a very painful injury (a dislocated pelvis) when he fell off a horse while training for his role in Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained.

Luckily, we’ve still got the likes of Orlando Bloom to ogle. I have to say that I do like him more since he and Miranda Kerr got married — he seems a lot more satisfied and relaxed, both in candid shots and on the red carpet. Obviously, he realizes that he’s one lucky and happy bloke.

wenn3543729

wenn3543730

Also in attendance was a very bearded Matthew Macfadyen with his wife, Keeley Hawes, who wore a sleek orange-red number but (oddly) paired it with some rose-printed pumps. She reminds me so much of Sadie Frost — anyone else see it too?

Milla Jovovich on her veneer catastrophe & “embarrassing” male models

fp_7138492_jovovichmilla_filmset_excl_vij_13_22

I’ve had a serious girl crush on Milla Jovovich since she and I were both 11-years-old. The major difference between us, of course, was that Milla was gracing the covers of Seventeen and Mademoiselle at the time while I was sitting in my bedroom wishing that I looked like her. These days, Milla is still a highly successful model (who has been a L’Oréal spokesperson for over a decade) and has managed to carve herself out a very lucrative acting career as well. She recently sat down with the Telegraph to promote The Three Musketeers, and the journalist takes great pains to mention that Jovovich didn’t bring a publicist and appears to possess no PR filter of which to speak. It shows, mostly in a good way.

On Never Taking Fame Personally: When people held up my picture to sign at a premiere it didn’t feel like it was because I was famous – just a part of the job. I would only ever get horrible things said about my acting and so on. And they were right: I was a horrible actress back then.

On Supermodels: The girls who endure past the age of 25 are fascinating because they brought something more to the table. Take the supermodels: sure they had mystique and the glamour, but those girls are smart businesswomen. Lots of pretty faces came and went over the years, but some stuck around and I happen to be one of them.

Now, every client would rather work with an actress. After the supermodel thing, the clients just said, “We’re done with paying top dollar for girls with attitudes who are constantly late.” These days they’ll pay them nothing so they don’t create stars – and I get that. Why have a model on the front of your magazine when you can have Kate Winslet, Cate Blanchett or Hilary Swank? Because those girls are intelligent and talented, people are interested.

On Early Success: My poor mum had a lot of problems with me around that time. I was young but I’d been working for years, so if she asked me to clean my room I’d say, “You can’t tell me what to do after I’ve worked a 12-hour day.” It gave me a power that no one that age should have.

On Male Models: They’re even worse than actors. I mean seriously: you’re going to model for a living? It’s embarrassing for a man to model. Because it’s not like their career can take them anywhere – except in rare exceptions, like my ex-boyfriend [the photographer] Mario Sorrenti. If I ever had a boy, my one terror would be that he wanted to be an actor or a model.

On Mothering In Los Angeles: I worry about Ever. She’s the daughter of two successful people living in Beverly Hills: that’s gross. And that’s why at some point I want to take her to live in a village in Mongolia where we can help milk the yaks. Not that I’m ever going to be just a mum because it’s not in my nature, and what’s the point of being with your kid 24 hours a day if you’re depressed, which I would be?

On Her Recent Cosmetic-Enhancement (Veneers) Mistake: It didn’t even look like me. I couldn’t believe that I’d let them take away my smile. Luckily I found a dentist who recreated my teeth the way they were, but it taught me a lesson. Until you can’t bear to look in the mirror without feeling uncomfortable, don’t touch yourself. What is it you people say? “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it?” Because you will break it.

[From Telegraph]

That last part sounds rather scary, for Milla admits to allowing a cosmetic dentist talk her into the veneers after she chipped a tooth while filming a movie. Fortunately, another dentist was able to “redo” them so that she could regain her old look, which probably cost her a fortune and was a process filled with pain. Yet the experience has given her a fresh outlook on the risks of changing one’s appearance, so I am hopeful that she’ll never go the way of the botox and plastic surgery monsters that we’re so familiar with in contemporary society.

While Milla’s male model statements do sound slightly bitchy at first glance, the girl does have a point because modelling is probably the only industry where women outearn males by a hefty proportion. While neither sex can necessarily count on longevity as a model, I think most people see male models as just pinch hitting until they move on to a more practical career or get booted out after they can no longer pass for college aged. Yes, there are the occasional faces that stick around, like Tyson Beckford, but it’s very rare for a male model to become a household name unless, you know, they happen to get mixed up with crazy Halle Berry or start sleeping with Madonna. Ugh.

Milla, however, shall be around as a model (and actress) for as long as she desires. She’s so damn beautiful, and her little girl is just adorable too.

Milla Jovovich in Prada at Cannes: glamorous or tacky?

wenn5656862

Actress and supermodel Milla Jovovich was front and center on the Cannes red carpet for the debut of La Conquete, which is the much anticipated biopic of French President Nicolas Sarkozy that, according to early reviews is a serviceable enough film but not a stunning masterpiece by any stretch. What’s more relevant here, however, is the Prada gown worn by Milla. Though her hair and makeup, Milla obviously intends to evoke some old-fashioned glamour, but the dress is somewhat lacking. The mismatched top and bottom really throw the look off although I’m sure the avant garde look will appeal to some fashionistas out there.

wenn5656866

Although La Conquete was clearly a political film, this red carpet was definitely more of a runway affair. Also in attendance was Dutch model Doutzen Kroes, one of the current Victoria’s Secret Angels and also one who doesn’t recognize the meaning of “sheer.” That’s her underwear, right?

la_conquete_01_wenn5656858

la_conquete_carpet_005_wenn5656734

Meanwhile, Eva Herzigova ditched all subtlety and killed it with extremely short shorts that showed off her ultra long legs. By the way, she had a baby two months ago, so this is probably her “Look how quickly I bounced back!” outfit. Bitch.

Milla Jovovich on violence in films: ‘parents need to take more responsibility’

wenn2562562
Ukranian model and actress Milla Jovovich, 33, plays the lead in the uber-violent Resident Evil films, based on the video game of the same name. She’s currently promoting the alien abduction movie The Fourth Kind, out November 6. Jovovich spoke with Parade Magazine about being a mom to her daughter Ever, 2, with her husband, director Paul W. S. Anderson, and parental responsibility when it comes to violence in movies. I’m not that familiar with Milla, but ever since I read her funny explanation of how she gained a lot of weight during her pregnancy (which of course she lost pretty quickly), I’ve had a high opinion of her. She seems very funny and down to earth.

Now she’s feeling good as a mom.
“Before you have kids, you create so many problems that are centered in yourself. You’re thinking, Am I ready for this audition? Am I good enough? Now that I have a kid, it’s not such a big deal. Even if I don’t get the job, I know I’m going to be really busy at home. Being a mother to my daughter, Ever, is a full-time job. Now it’s all about my baby, her growing up well and getting everything she needs. Everything else is just a plus.”

Her message to parents.
“You’ve got to know your kids like the back of your hand and make sure they’re honest with you and not scared to tell you things. I know when Ever goes to school I’ll be letting my little bird go, but I just want to make sure she tells me everything that happened, good or bad.”

Take charge of what your children watch.
“I think parents need to take a lot more responsibility than they do about whether it’s OK for their children to go to Resident Evil or any other movie with violence or sex or whatever. It’s really easy to blame Hollywood for violence having an effect on kids, but movies would have no power if parents would just set their own standards. And it’s the same with video games.”

The video game that jump-started her career.
“Me and my brother Marco would play Resident Evil together and I said to him, ‘This is the perfect vehicle for me.’ I mean, Alice wears a tube top and a mini-skirt and she’s killing zombies. So when I first auditioned, I said to Paul [director Paul W. S. Anderson, her husband ] ‘If I don’t get this part my brother is going to kill me because he sees a huge boost in his popularity at school if I play her.’”

[From Parade]

That’s cute that she calls her daughter her “little bird,” and I agree that once you have kids you don’t sweat the small stuff anymore. There’s too much going on in your life. My son is five so I haven’t really had to deal with extremely violent movies, but I have had to make sure that he’s not playing video games on the computer that include shooting or violence. (It’s not as bad as it sounds. Some older kids from his camp introduced him to miniclip.com and they have a ton of games, some of which are not appropriate for little kids, but he has his favorites and they’re ok for kids. It’s not like he’s seen first person shoot ‘em ups. He also loves nitrome.com) For those of you with tweens and teenagers – how do make sure they’re not seeing violence on tv or film? How do you deal with limiting access to violent video games? Some of the stuff that’s out there now is pretty horrifying.
