Both Star and Us Weekly have variations on the “celebrity kids are insane” stories. Star actually takes the nicer slant, calling celebrity kids Shiloh, Suri, Harlow, and others “Billion Dollar Babies”. Do you think these kids really have “shrinks on call 24/7”? Well, we know Suri doesn’t. Xenu wouldn’t stand for it. Maybe Tori and Dean’s Stella does? How about “butlers in tuxedos”? If we’re talking tuxedo t-shirts, maybe that one is Matthew and Camila’s little Levi. Meanwhile, Us Weekly condemns the celebrity kids with “Growing Up Too Fast: Over-the-top parties, private jets, personal stylists, inside the world of Tinseltown’s cutest A-Listers”. Like any day now Suri is going to doing lines with Lindsay Lohan at the bathroom of Bungalow 8. But it is weird that both tabloids chose the same photo of Suri, isn’t it? Hm..

Anyway, very few details have been released from the cover stories, but I can take a wild guess that both are just filler pieces about the “extravagant” lives these kids lead. Some of which is probably true, some not so much. But there is this little piece from Us Weekly about Suri:

Is this breaking news? Does this deserve a cover story? No and no. Anyone who has read anything about Tom Cruise, Katie or Suri over the past few years knows that Suri is a little princess who wears expensive doll clothes. And there are many celebrity kids who also have nice things too. I remember seeing Angelina and Empress Zahara with matching $800 purses at one point too. Yes, celebrity parents splurge on their beloved children. As do non-celebrity parents. Shocking!

Even after the neverending controversy regarding little Shiloh’s tomboy fashions, and the neverending backlash against those “Shiloh is a lesbian, because of her mom” stories, I love that she’s still rocking her pants and kicks and knit caps. Here is Shiloh and Zahara and Maddox (and is Pax there too?) walking around Venice with Angelina today. You know what I really adore? Even though Shiloh still looks so much like her dad (like, she’s his open-mouthed mini-me), she’s starting to adopt some of Angelina’s “looks” or her attitude. Like, I swear the little eye-cutting look Shiloh is doing in the photo above - that comes from her mom.

Damn, I just realized how many layers she’s wearing! Button-down shirt, t-shirt, cardigan and bomber jacket. She’s so friggin’ cute.

I want Angelina’s boots. Damn.

You can’t see Zahara that well in these photos, which is always disappointing. We shall see the Empress at another time, I guess. But here’s a little Maddox for the Jolie-Pitt fans:

I missed some of these photos when I wrote on Sunday (correctly) that Brad and Angelina weren’t going to be attending the Oscars. Instead of flying to LA for Hollywood’s biggest night, the Brangelina gang (minus the gerbils and the twins) went to a birthday party. It seems like the party was thrown by Angelina’s Tourist director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck for one of his three kids. Judging solely from the photos, it does seem like the kids - especially Shiloh, who seems to have taken a special liking to van Donnersmarck, who is holding her in these photos - had a good time. Don’t judge the day by Empress Zahara’s fabulous little bitchface. She’s throwing that “I’ll shank you” look to the paparazzi. Her look says it all - “You a-holes can’t even let me enjoy some birthday cake?”

Meanwhile here’s Shiloh, looking adorable. I think von Donnersmarck must be tickling her. I’m wanting to start a new rumor… not about Angelina and Johnny Depp, but about Angelina and her director. He seems like he loves kids, and that’s what Angelina likes!

I was thinking about writing something along these lines yesterday, but I’m glad I waited. It seems the backlash continues to grow against this week’s Life & Style cover featuring Shiloh Jolie-Pitt’s tomboy ways. Perhaps this is because L&S did the craziest, most hysterical, most disgusting piece on how “Angelina is turning Shiloh into a boy” and the piece even featured a snotty quote from a spokesperson from Focus on the Family who farted out some nonsense about “Little girls have never been women before… gender distinction is very healthy.” The overwhelming majority of commenters on this site, and others, were outraged by the cover, and the now the story has become “Jesus Christ, leave the little girl alone, and everyone associated with the story should have their careers end. Now.” Gawker even ran a piece called “Can We Stop Calling Shiloh Jolie-Pitt a Lesbian?” Here you go:

The tabs are freaking out that Shiloh Jolie-Pitt looks like a LITTLE BOY; this issue was of such pressing importance that Life & Style put it on the cover.

But people have been freaking out over this for a couple months. In January Bonnie Fuller wrote on her blog Hollywood Life: “In recent photos she’s been decked out in a fedora, tie, camouflage pants, boy vest, pirate sword, navy knit skull and crossbones hat, black jeans, gray jackets, black and white skull socks and sneakers. Even the stuffed animal she carries is blue. Never ever is Shiloh dolled up in anything remotely girlish. Her blond hair is hidden under hats or left unbrushed and pushed to the side of her face. Her sister Zahara Jolie-Pitt, however, is allowed to have her girly touches. HER Mary Poppins hair was pulled into a purple barrette and a pretty bracelets escaped from under the arm of her coat.”

Fuller also quotes a “psychiatrist” who says that the way Shiloh dresses is because it’s a way for Angelina to express her bisexuality.

And the Early Show this morning picked up on the Life & Style story; co-anchor co-anchor Maggie Rodriguez “posed the question of whether or not that could confuse a child about their gender identity.”

What is this, 1950?

At least Salon came through with a voice of reason. Mary Elizabeth Williams writes that if she had as many kids as the Jolie-Pitts, her daughters would have buzz cuts.

Ugh, do you know how much I hate the demon named Bonnie Fuller? Meanwhile, that VH1 stylist, Alana Kelen, who was quoted in the L&S story, has sent a note to Jezebel about the situation. Just to recap, Kelen told the magazine: “Shiloh is pushing the boundaries of a tomboy look and crossing over to cross-dresser territory.” Here are the basics of Kelen’s “apology”.

I have lost sleep these past 2 nights due to the horrible thoughts and comments they included and attributed to me in this particular story for Life & Style, as they were taken completely out of context. They use me often for style quotes, so I had no idea they would twist my words, and they always contact me for final approval, which they did not do this time around.

I left this post as a comment to your story: “My career has been all about personal expression through clothing, and I am the biggest believer that any person should wear anything they choose, regardless of age or sex. The quote I did provide to Life & Style actually praised Shiloh’s parents for letting her be who she wants to be, and included that she has two cool older brothers who she is probably trying to emulate, and that she looks up to, and that there is NOTHING at all wrong with it … quite the opposite. I was hoping it would influence other parents to let their children do the same.”

Again, I am sorry that my words were misinterpreted, and please be assured that I would never say anything bad about any person, especially a child.

Really, I am in tears right now because this just makes me sick. In the past, L&S have often used me for style quotes, and they always give me final approval, so I trusted them for this piece, mistakenly. The actual quote began with “Some might think …” but they conveniently took that out to make it seem the thought was my own, and did not contact me for that final approval.

Many of my friends in life & at work are in fact lesbian, gay & transgendered, and that is why this is most upsetting to me. They can vouch that I would NEVER say such things. It’s just not the person I am.

Would love if you could include my thoughts, less about restoring my reputation, but more for helping people believe that is is natural and right to let children and people in general express themselves any way they choose, in clothing & in life.

I don’t get it. Either she wrote that Shiloh was a cross-dresser, or she didn’t. I get that she didn’t want the “cross-dressing” comment to be published (now that it has been published and scorned), but I still don’t see how you can take “Shiloh” and “cross dressing” out of context. You’re still putting those words together in a sentence.

Meanwhile, GLAAD is getting involved now. GLAAD’s Senior Director of Media Programs, Rashad Robinson released a statement saying in part: “Perpetuating gender stereotypes and targeting children for ridicule about the way they dress is unacceptable, regardless of their parent’s celebrity status. Media has a responsibility to differentiate between credible authorities and politically motivated (and usually self-proclaimed) ‘experts’ like Focus on the Family’s Glenn Stanton, who is not an expert on developmental issues or gender identity.” Well said.

Oh, God. Much like the crapfest Us Weekly story several weeks ago about Angelina “repressing” Shiloh by letting her dress like a tomboy, Life & Style’s cover story this week is a hysterical “WHY IS ANGELINA TURNING SHILOH INTO A BOY?”. Life & Style breathlessly proclaims: “Experts weigh in on Shiloh’s shocking new look and masculine behavior.” What is Shiloh’s new look? The little girl got a haircut. It’s a little bowl cut, like the classic “Shy Di” Princess Diana cut. And Shiloh’s “masculine behavior”? Why, Shiloh is wearing pants. And she likes to be called “John” because she loves Peter Pan. And you know what this is really all about? How Angelina is the devil. Can you believe it? It’s not “WHY IS BRAD…?” It’s about Angelina and how she just hates Shiloh and forces the little girl to dress like a boy, probably because of a vial of blood or something. That’s the rationale, I think.

When Brad Pitt was spotted in Paris on Feb. 23, it looked like he and Angelina Jolie had adopted a new child — an adorable blond boy. Instead, it was the couple’s 3-year-old daughter, Shiloh, sporting boys’ clothes and a new haircut so shockingly short it immediately ignited a firestorm of controversy.

“It’s a drastic change,” says an eyewitness. “The last time we’d seen her, her hair was longer and blonder, and she was more girlie. We were surprised Angelina dressed her so much like a little boy.”

Reaction on the Internet was far harsher and even some seen-it-all celebrity stylists were stunned by the transformation.

“Shiloh is pushing the boundaries of a tomboy look and crossing over to cross-dresser territory,” Alana Kelen, senior fashion stylist at VH1, tells Life & Style. Celebrity stylist Gili Rashal-Niv agrees. “I get that times are tough but does Angie really need to have Shiloh sharing clothes with her brothers? Hopefully we won’t be seeing Maddox in one of Shiloh’s dresses any time soon.”

It’s just the latest sign that Shiloh’s more comfortable doing traditionally boyish things. After all, Brad once said that his daughter responded only to boys’ names.

“We’ve got to call her John,” he told Oprah Winfrey, noting that when he started to ask, “Shi, do you want…” she would interrupt with “John. I’m John.” Then, Brad continued, “I’ll say, ‘John, would you like some orange juice?’ And she goes, ‘No!’”

Some parenting experts think that indulging Shiloh’s masculine behavior is a mistake.

“Little girls have never been women before,” Glenn Stanton, director of Family Formation Studies at the conservative organization Focus on the Family, tells Life & Style. “They need help, they need guidance of what that looks like. It’s important to teach our children that gender distinction is very healthy.”

But others think letting Shiloh wear what she wants is a vital part of learning to form her own identity. “Giving preschool-age children the freedom and flexibility to experiment with how they want to be seen in the world is a wonderful gift,” parenting coach Karen Deerwester, author of The Entitlement-Free Child, tells Life & Style.

I’ll say the same thing I said with that ridiculous Us Weekly piece - just leave Shiloh alone. She’s a little tomboy, and loves her pants and her kicks and running around and being a kid. Personally, I prefer my kids like Shiloh - like, actual kids who play and run around and don’t care about getting dirty - as opposed to the Suri Cruises of the world, the perfect little anal-retentive princesses who never play and carry their own makeup bags at the age of 3.

But what this whole thing is really about is how Shiloh wearing pants and having short hair equals “lesbian”. I feel like I’m banging my head against the wall, but pants and short hair (at the age of 3 for God’s sake) don’t equal lesbian. They don’t equal lesbian at the age of 20, either. Or 40. And even if Shiloh was a little lesbian, what f-cking difference would it make? Are Brad and Angelina supposed to “force” Shiloh to grow her hair long and wear dresses just to “force” her to “act straight”? What f-cking century are we living in?

We don’t have access to this one particular photo that Us Weekly’s “experts” are weighing in on, but you can see it on Us Weekly’s site. It’s a photo from this past weekend of Angelina, Zahara and Shiloh enjoying a little girls’ day out in Los Angeles. Shiloh is dressed in a little bowler hat, jeans, sneakers, shirt, cardigan and apparently, a tie? But I can’t see the tie. Whatever. Anyway, Us Weekly convened a panel of experts to determine whether or not Shiloh’s tomboy style is actually devastatingly horrible. Oh, yes. These are just some of the words used: defy societal norms, ostracized, anxiety, poor academic performance and repressing. All because Shiloh dresses like a little tomboy and not a living doll with perfect princess dresses.

Are Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie sending the wrong message to their 3-year-old daughter Shiloh by often dressing her up like a little boy?

Yes and no, therapists tell UsMagazine.com.

“Shiloh at three years old may very well be expressing her preference for certain clothing and playing a role in what she wears. This is quite healthy as she is learning to make choices and think independently,” Manhattan psychotherapist Jonathan Alpert, who pens a column in Metro newspaper called “No More Drama,” tells Us of the girl, who was photographed last weekend in a tie and bowler hat. (Big sis Zahara, 5, donned patent leather boots with heels during the same outing.)

“If though, Brad and Angelina are dressing Shiloh in boys clothing to make a social or fashion statement, I suggest they stop,” Alpert continues. “It’s never a good idea for parents to defy societal or cultural norms at the expense of their child to make such statements — it comes with a cost.” (Pitt and Jolie have used their relationship to take a stand against inequality, saying they won’t wed until gay marriage is legalized.)

The cost, Alpert explains, could include Shiloh getting, “picked on or ostracized by her peers, potentially leading to social problems, anxiety, and poor academic performance” when she enters school.

Carol Tuttle, a psychotherapist and the author of “Dressing Your Truth-Real Beauty for Real Women,” says Shiloh’s style is “similar to a look Avril Lavigne made popular, and we still felt Avril’s feminine nature coming through.”

But, “if Angelina is choosing her daughter’s clothes… she could be repressing her daughter’s true nature,” continues Tuttle to UsMagazine.com.

“As parents, when we raise a child more true to our tendencies, personality traits, and nature rather than our children’s nature, we perpetuate the potential for a child to rebel in their teen years in an effort to be true to themselves,” Tuttle says.

That said, “Picking out their own clothes is a very healthy activity for a little 3-year-old girl,” Tuttle adds.

Maybe I don’t know what I’m talking about with this, since I’m not a mother and I have never known what it’s like to raise a little girl. But I was once a kid with style issues, so I feel pretty confident saying this: leave Shiloh alone, for God’s sake. She’s a little girl! She looks like she dresses herself, and the combinations she comes up with must endlessly amuse her parents. Right now, she is probably going through a little tomboy phase, like I went through, and like many girls go through. And sometimes that tomboy phase lasts a lifetime and those girls grow up to be stellar athletes or pantsuit-wearing kick-ass businesswomen, or even, (gasp!) pant-wearing lesbians. After I went through my tomboy phase, I insisted on wearing dresses for like two years. And I turned out fine. Sort of. But whatever problems I had don’t have anything to do with a tomboy style phase!

UPDATE: As some of you have pointed out, shortly after Us Weekly put this article online, they changed the headline and the text to make it reflect a more “she’s just a kid, leave her alone” vibe. My guess is that a similar article probably appears in the current issue of Us Weekly, though, and I’m glad we caught it in the original “repressed” state.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie decided to treat their four oldest kids to a Broadway matinee on Sunday. They went to see Mary Poppins, which I hope the kids enjoyed. Personally, Poppins is one of my least favorite musicals or children’s films, although I’ll watch Julie Andrews in anything. I always thought the Jolie-Pitt clan would be more partial to The Sound of Music, but whatever. That was just my theory!

So, anyway, I guess this means that Angelina and Brad and the kids are still in New York, so Angelina still might have a few days more of Salt reshoots, which will be some more great photos. I know it must drive Brad and Angelina crazy, but I love when they’re in New York - there are always more photos of them when they’re staying in New York, probably because the paparazzi are more wily, perhaps?

Pax, Maddox, Shiloh and Zahara all got to go out with their mom and dad in what is turning out to be one of the coldest early winters the East Coast has ever had in my lifetime. Shiloh looks totally over it. And the Huffington Post is identifying Princess Zahara as six years old, but she’ll be turning five years old on January 8 - so happy early birthday to her! Such a big girl! This matinee could be an early birthday present. PopEater says that the theatre’s security had advance knowledge of their appearance, and the security “ushered” them into the performance. There’s also video of the whole thing at PopEater!

These are more photos of Angelina Jolie doing her re-shoots for Salt, as she’s been doing for the past few days. What’s new is that it seems Brad and the two older girls came to visit their mom on set, so we have new photos of Empress Zahara and Shiloh! I love everything about Zahara, from her oversized white ear muffs to her kick-ass (Ugg?) boots. I love that both girls have bomber jackets. I love that even though Zahara is being carried, she still looks like she’s issuing orders to her parents. I love that Shiloh is giving her dad a “WTF?” look, which I really think is about his ugly beard.

Also, WENN notes on these photos that the Brangelina clan is leaving the set. So… I guess Angelina gets to take that black banged wig home with her? Sure, it looks cheap and the film probably has 50 of them. But still! I bet Angelina has it written into her contract that she gets to keep all of the wigs, whips, riding crops and handcuffs from all of her films. Brad’s going to have fun with that wig tonight! Or, you know, the girls will play with it.

Do you feel it? The Empress grows stronger by the day. Soon we will all live under her benevolent rule. And I, for one, would like to say that I can’t wait!

Suri Cruise was just named as the “most stylish celebrity child” by a poll conducted in the United Kingdom. I’m grossed out for a couple of reasons - first, I really do hate the way the media is trying to pit children in competition with one another, whether or not the children are aware of it or not. Second point - Zahara Jolie-Pitt got robbed! Third point - Violet Affleck, Maddox Jolie-Pitt, Sunday Rose Kidman-Urban and Honor Alba-Warren got robbed too! Although, I think the fact that this poll was conducted in the UK might have had something to do with it - Princess Tiaamii Andre (Katie Price’s daughter) made the list, after all.

She faced some pretty tough competition, but in a recent poll conducted by UK clothier Adams Childrenwear 3-year-old Suri Cruise was named the most stylish celebrity child.

Mom Katie Holmes recently revealed that her daughter already has an eye for fashion, saying, “She loves clothes and picks out her own.”

Joining Tom and Katie’s little fashionista on the list were all three Beckham boys and of course L.A.M.B. designer Gwen Stefani’s preschooler Kingston. Here’s a list of all of the very stylish tots who made the top 10:

I would have been all for Lourdes getting top honors, but I thought the list was for little kids, not 13-year-olds. Lola is totally one of the most fashionable kids or young women out there today. But Shiloh? Shiloh is too busy dressing up like a hellrasing tomboy, or Peter Pan. Which is cute, but is it stylish? If Suri is the top of the list, it makes me suspect that people like little girls dresses as little dolls, especially if the dolls don’t wear coats. Kingston Rossdale deserves his place on the list though - that is one stylish little boy. Sigh… they’re all cuties. Why make them compete?

I think her weapon of choice is her hardcore “Eat it, bitches” face.

Just Jared claims that Angelina is supposed to be dressed as “the walking dead”, but to me, she just looks like a younger version of herself. Her hair is … powdered, maybe? And I think her outfit might be from her wedding to Jonny Lee Miller. Maddox was in camouflage, naturally, but he was allegedly a “dead army soldier”. Kind of gothic for an 8-year-old, but he is Angelina Jolie’s son, after all. Shiloh got to trick-or-treat too - she was apparently dressed as a “jet fighter”. She looks like a mechanic to me.

The absolute best, most amazing costumed Jolie-Pitt was none other than Brad, though. Between the hazard-orange jumpsuit, the turban, and what looks like a vodka cocktail, Brad seems to be aiming for “Most Outrageous Gloria Swanson drag ever”. Unfortunately for me, I didn’t get the real reference. Apparently, Brad dressed as DJ Lance Rock from the show Yo Gabba Gabba on Nickelodeon Jr.

That’s exactly what some families in the Los Angeles-area experienced Saturday night as Brangelina and their brood got into the spirit of the holiday and dressed in colorful costumes as these photos – exclusive to RadarOnline.com – show.

Brad’s hilarious costume includes beads in his beard and his bright orange outfit made him stand out during the dark night.

Brad drove the family into a neighborhood near the Hollywood Hills where they trick or treated. They did not have security with them.

Some people on the street recognized the Brangelina crew and stared but all was well as the Pitt-Jolie clan had a blast.

Where was Pax? Where were the babies? Well, I can understand leaving the babies at home. They aren’t old enough to go trick-or-treating, although it would have been hilarious if Angelina had dressed up like Britney Spears, and dress Knox up like Sean Preston, because those babies look alike. But Pax is old enough to go trick or treating! Maybe he stayed home to pass out candy? Maybe he just doesn’t like Halloween? Maybe he knew that his dad would steal everybody’s thunder? Who knows.
