Justin Timberlake supports Cameron Diaz at dad’s funeral

Say what you want about Cameron Diaz, the woman must be good at relationships. Cameron’s father recently passed away at only 58-years-old, and his funeral was held this past Sunday. Three of Cameron’s famous ex-boyfriends showed up to support her: Justin Timberlake, John Mayer, and Kelly Slater all attended Emilio Diaz’s memorial at sushi restaurant Mahe in Seal Beach, California.

“The Sweetest Thing” actress, devastated by the sudden death of her father, was comforted by a pair of former flames at his memorial service on Sunday.

Justin Timberlake, who split with Diaz in January, showed his support at the informal Seal Beach, Calif. service, which started around 1:30 p.m. Singer-songwriter John Mayer, another former beau, arrived separately to pay his respects. They both lingered past 4 p.m., after most of the other guests had left.

The stricken actress asked friends and family to wear colorful clothing in celebration of her father’s life. “Hardly anyone wore black,” one guest told the Daily Mail. “Lots of people were wearing Hawaiian shirts. It looked more like a party.”

[From the New York Daily News]

It sounds like the memorial was really nice, and it’s also a testament to Cameron’s ability to stay good friends with her exes. We all know Justin Timberlake doesn’t necessarily feel obligated to help out a former flame just because she’s going through a hard time. There have been several reports of JT being very protective of Cameron since their breakup.

E! reports that in addition to the Hawaiian shirts, there was also a tent in the back of the restaurant where a taco truck and pizza stand provided food. Instead of flowers, the Diaz family requested donations be made to Emilio’s favorite charities, the Surfrider Foundation and Reef Check. Both work on beach rehabilitation. Hopefully with the support of family and friends, Cameron and the rest of the Diazes will be able to heal.

Cameron Diaz issues statement about losing her dad

cameronheader.jpg
Cameron Diaz issued a statement yesterday about the tragic loss of her father, Emilio Diaz at the age of just 58. Cameron’s dad was an oil company employee for over 20 years until he retired in 1998. He was battling the flu and developed pneumonia, complications from which led to his death:

“My mom, sister and I are deeply appreciative of the overwhelming outpouring of love and support during this difficult time for us and all of our family,” the actress said in a statement through publicist Brad Cafarelli.

“My dad was loved by so many people and his humor and spirit will always live on in our hearts.”

[From E! Online]

Cameron, 35, her sister Chimene, 37, and their mother Billie are together at their family home in Seal Beach, California surrounded by their friends and family.

Production has stopped on Diaz’s film My Sister’s Keeper and she has canceled a planned appearance at a party for British GQ, where she appears on the cover this month.

Our hearts and thoughts are with Cameron and her family at this tough time. I mentioned in an earlier post about this that my dad is older than that and I can’t imagine losing him so young. That’s a tough thing to go through.

Cameron is shown at the Shrek The Third premiere on 5/6/07, thanks to PRPhotos.

Cameron Diaz’s dad dies unexpectedly from pneumonia at 58

cameronsomber.jpg
Cameron Diaz has lost her dad Emilio, 58, after an unexpected illness. He developed pneumonia after a bout with flu, and his death was a surprise both due to his relatively young age and the fact that he was in good health prior to his recent illness.

Emilio worked as a foreman at an oil company and lived in Seal Beach, California.

TMZ reports that production has shut down on Diaz’s film “My Sister’s Keeper.”

My father is a little older than 58 and I can’t imagine losing him so young. That’s incredibly sad and our thoughts are with Cameron and her family.

Gerard Butler uses super rude analogy to deny dating Cameron Diaz

Gerard Butler told photographers trailing him that he’s not dating Cameron Diaz, and he used the most humorous analogy of gossip that I’ve ever heard from a celebrity:

“If I take a dog for a walk, apparently I’m f’king my dog!” [from US Weekly]

Do you think he meant to compare Diaz to a dog or did he just pick an unfortunate example in trying to show how ridiculous gossip rags are?

Cameron Diaz has a new interview and photo spread in the upcoming issue of W Magazine. I read the version online hoping to get a decent tidbit to report, but the article just made me shrug. It didn’t change my opinion of her at all. Maybe Butler feels the same way and doesn’t want to be punished by the media for exchanging pleasantries.

Thanks to W Magazine for these photos.

Cameron Diaz and Gerard Butler?

camerongerard.jpg
The Mirror is reporting that Cameron Diaz, 35, has been dating Scottish beefcake Gerard Butler, 38. I doubt this is true, not because I couldn’t see these two together, but because The Mirror has a tendency to make up and heavily embellish stories, and this seems to have originated with them. And unreliable Star Magazine reports this week that Butler was photographed having a romantic lunch and going for a walk on March 21 with actress Laura Harring, 44, who starred in Mulholland Drive. Maybe everyone is single and hanging out, or perhaps there’s something going with Butler and Diaz and/or Harring. For what it’s worth, here’s The Mirror’s report:

My spy in LA caught them sharing drinks at Shutters Hotel last week. He told me: “They walked up to the balcony area to look at the sunset. He had one arm round her waist and the other on the small of her back. She kept giggling and touching his chest to whisper in his ear. They obviously had a good night.”

Cameron, 35, and Butler, 38, have also been out at Teddy’s Bar in the Roosevelt Hotel in LA, where fellow clubbers say there was a lot of “thigh touching”.

And a couple of days before that they dined at The Chateau Marmont hotel.

[From The Mirror]

They could have been together several times, but I’ll wait and see on this one. There are places listed where they were sighted but the dates are not given, they’re just general like “last week” and “a couple of days” and those are all paparazzi hot spots. Wouldn’t there be pictures of them going into or out of those places, not necessarily together? The Mirror is so full of crap usually.

For her part, Diaz says she’s happily single, but acknowledges that she can be intimidating to men. (eyeroll)

She said: “It’s been nice not having a boyfriend for the past year. In fact, it’s the first time I haven’t had one in 10 years and I’m enjoying what I’m getting out of this moment.

“I could be in a relationship if I wanted to be but I haven’t finished doing what I’m doing. But when I’m in a relationship I’m very loyal and committed. I give a lot.”

“I do get asked out. It’s fun. But I’m a lot of woman - in a lot of ways.

“And I understand that can be intimidating.”

[From GQ interview via Stuff.co.nz]

Cameron probably sings “I’m every woman” in the shower in the morning while she lathers up.

Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards: Too Much Miley, Not Enough Harrison Ford

If you have children, you were probably subjected to Nickelodeon’s 25th Annual Kid’s Choice Awards ceremony on Saturday night. You have my sincerest condolences. I, too, had to watch, and it was often eyeroll-inducing: lame banter between celebrity presenters; boring and unfunny “behind the scenes” skits; stupid slime stunts that dragged out the show even longer and wayyyy too much Disney product, in the form of Miley Cyrus and the Jonas Brothers. Miley Cyrus won favorite female television star and favorite female musical artist, much to my daughter’s delight.

There were a few bright spots in the broadcast, including host Jack Black’s over-the-top opening musical number, in which he wore a bright green superhero costume and rocked out with a giant octopus playing guitar to the Kiss song “I Was Made for Loving You,” with the lyrics changed to “I Was Made for Sliming You.” (In my opinion, Black was the only funny, high-energy part of the show and should have been allowed to riff and get crazy even more.) The theme of each Kids’ Choice Awards, you see, is that celebs and kids in the audience get buckets of green slime poured on their heads at random moments. Slimed celebs included Harrison Ford, who recreated a famous scene from “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” which concluded with him being covered in green slime. Other mildly amusing segments included a celebrity belching contest that featured Jodie Foster attempting to burp along to the song “YMCA.”

All in all, the show had the same problems as most other awards shows: it went on too long, there was too much unfunny dialog, and the host didn’t get enough chances to do what he does best. But if you are at all interested in the winners, here they are.

Favorite TV Show: Drake and Josh
Favorite Reality Show: American Idol
Favorite TV Actor: Drake Bell (from Drake and Josh)
Favorite TV Actress: Miley Cyrus
Favorite Cartoon: Avatar: The Last Airbender
Favorite Movie: Alvin and the Chipmunks
Favorite Movie Actor: Johnny Depp
Favorite Movie Actress: Jessica Alba
Favorite Animated Movie: Ratatouille
Favorite Animated Voice: Eddie Murphy (Shrek The Third)
Favorite Music Group: The Jonas Brothers
Favorite Song: “Girlfriend” by Avril Lavigne
Favorite Female Singer: Miley Cyrus
Favorite Male Singer: Chris Brown
Favorite Male Athlete: Tony Hawk
Favorite Female Athlete: Danica Patrick
Favorite Book: Harry Potter Series
Favorite Video Game: Madden NFL 2008
Wannabe Award: Cameron Diaz

If anything, the Kids’ Choice Awards gives parents a glimpse into the music, movies, and other pop culture their kids like– which should scare the crap out of you. I know I had a hard time sleeping knowing that the youth of America wants to be just like Cameron Diaz.

Diddy and Cameron Diaz: One of Ashton Kutcher’s planted stories

ashtoncameron.jpg
JayBird reported earlier today that Ashton Kutcher has a new reality show in which he pulls pranks on the paparazzi and gossip media. Paris Hilton’s whole outing with the Swami guy was really just a staged prank that she was in on for Ashton’s upcoming show, in which he punks the paps and the gossip rags by planting fake stories. (You have to give props to JayBird because she thought that it was Paris who was being Punk’d by Ashton when she saw those pictures, and it turns out that the truth wasn’t far off.)

Kutcher’s new show is a great idea. He says he’s doing it because the gossip press is “a feeding frenzy,” and that the way they spread conjecture is damaging not just to the celebrities, but that it’s also “at the expense of the population, because they’re being sucked into it, too.”

It’s going to be called Pop Fiction and will cover the way that Ashton manipulated the media to report specific stories. In fact they’re trying to keep it under wraps because there are stories already out there that are completely made up by Ashton and his celebrity friends. We’re excited by this concept and it’s great to see someone expose how the gossip press works as well as show how we’re regularly fooled by fabricated stories.

So I was wondering which recent gossip tidbits were planted by Ashton and his friends, and I tried to figure out who he might have conspired with.

Cameron Diaz was the first one who came to mind, and she definitely knows Ashton because they just finished shooting What Happens In Vegas together. Today there’s a story that Cameron and Diddy are a new item. This sounds totally suspect to us, and I hope it’s one of Ashton’s fake stories:

According to a witness, the pair arrived and left separately through the kitchen to avoid being photographed, but once safely inside the restaurant, they shared a booth and appeared to be on a date. “They could just be friends, but it looked like more.” the onlooker says. “They sat very close to each other.”

[In Touch as reported on MediaTakeOut]

Here are the other stories I think Ashton planted as part of his show
Rumer Willis and Orlando Bloom
Rumer is Ashton’s step-daughter, and I bet he arranged for her to get all kissy-face with Orlando at Prince’s Oscar party so that all the tabloids would report that they were together.

Orlando Bloom Smells
This story was too funny, and it sounds completely made up, but it’s not the typical fabricated story you would find in a gossip rag. Orlando’s friend supposedly said that his new girlfriend Miranda Kerr is grossed out by him because “he’ll wear the same jeans for a week,” sleeps with his dog, and rarely showers. You can see Orlando and Ashton making this one up.

Paris Hilton’s “find a friend” reality show
This one sounds too good to be true, and I bet it was. Since Ashton admits a collaboration with Paris on the guru story, I bet he helped her cook up this reality show concept too. Only it’s never going to happen.

Paris Hilton and Benji Madden
Please let these two be the product of Ashton Kutcher’s imagination. A lot of people wondered why they were showing up all over town together holding hands, and maybe it’s because they’re trying to Punk us. They seem to be overdoing it, though. It could be true publicity-whore love.

In related news, Wilmer Valderrama said at the beginning of February that he was done womanizing and that “You want the media to focus on what you are creating.”

Let us know which other recent stories you think might be the product of Ashton and crew. This could get interesting.

Update: Many of you are pointing out in the comments that the Kate Hudson pregnancy rumor could be one of the stories planted for Ashton’s show. Kate is a friend of Ashton’s and recently went to his 30th birthday party. If they orchestrated that rumor by having Kate wear loose outfits for weeks, I have to give them a lot of credit because that was genius. My personal feeling is that they didn’t set that up, but if they did they really pulled it off.

Worst and Best Dressed List Released

People magazine has released their annual best dressed list, ahead of the best dressed issue of their magazine. Then again, with a stylist in tow it’s easy to gain best dressed kudos, so the worst dressed is probably more interesting! I wish that list was longer.

Best Dressed 2007

Beyoncé Knowles – The Showstopper
Cameron Diaz – The Legs
Katie Holmes – The Classic
Penélope Cruz - The Continental
Jessica Biel – The All-American
Drew Barrymore – The Chameleon
Jennifer Lopez – The Glamour Girl
Reese Witherspoon – The Celeb Next Door
Gwen Stefani – The Trendsetter
Ali Larter – The Newcomer

Best Dressed Men

David Beckham
George Clooney
Johnny Depp
Terrence Howard
Brad Pitt

Best Dressed Couples

Angelina Jolie & Brad Pitt
Gabriel Aubry & Halle Berry
Gwen Stefani & Gavin Rossdale
Tony Parker & Eva Longoria

World’s Worst Dresser

Eva Green

Most Shocking Fashion Moments

Britney Spears shaves her head
Sanjaya Malakar’s faux-hawk
Kidnapped British sailors in oversized Iranian suits
Sen. Hillary Clinton’s cleavage
Naomi Campbell’s dress-up for community service
Paris Hilton’s get-out-of-jail get-up

Just Plain Wrong

Sienna Miller in black tights
Avril Lavigne’s combat boots & pink frilly dress

New York Daily News

Why have best dressed men lists? Even the most stylish man just tends to walk around in either a tuxedo or a t-shirt. There’s not much complicated about men’s dressing, why not have best punk rocker style for say, Pete Wentz? Or Best male use of make up, which would probably also be won by Pete Wentz.

I’m also confused about the criteria: Avril Lavinge’s lace dress and combat boots is a style no-no, but Lily Allen’s signature look is a dress and hi-top sneakers (Lily is mentioned in a British best dressed section of the magazine). Aren’t these just different versions of the same look? And none of the women on the best dressed list are cleavage shy, but it’s not okay for Hilary Clinton to show off her assets?

World’s Worst Dresser Eva Green is shown at the Casino Royale world premiere on 11/14/06 and the BAFTA awards on 2/11/07. (PRPhotos)

World’s Best Dressed Woman Beyonce Knowles is shown at the VMAs, at the opening of Jay-Z’s 40-40 club in Vegas on 9/6/07 and at the launch of Emporio Armani Diamonds Fragrance on 8/16/07. (PRPhotos)

Just Plain Wrong Sienna Miller in black tights at the Factory Girl UK premiere on 3/13/07 and at the 2006 Costume Institute Gala on 5/1/06. (PRPhotos)

George Clooney, Cameron Diaz Hot Los Angeles Singles

camerondiaz_georgeclooney.jpg
There’s nothing I love more than a Top Ten list. Or Top Five, or whatever. My personal faves are Top Ten Hot Guys (accompanied by pictures of hot guys in no shirts) and Top Ten Holiday Destinations (accompanied by pictures of hot guys in no shirts on a beach.)

Anyway, Forbes has again excelled themselves with a rather complex list, of 40 Hot Cities for Singles. Then they’ve crowned a most eligible man and woman of the city. For example, George Clooney and Cameron Diaz are king and queen of Los Angeles singletons.

George Clooney, 46
Actor

Launched to fame on television’s ER, Clooney likes to dip into directing and producing in addition to acting. He’s an Academy Award and Golden Globe winner, and when not in Los Angeles, he is sometimes found at his home at Lake Como, Italy.

Cameron Diaz, 34
Actress

Former model Diaz is one of the few female film stars who can command as much as $20 million a picture, the amount she earned for co-starring in Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle.

Forbes

This is great, if you live in one of the 40 American cities named. Helps narrow down who you should be aiming for, and then if your best friend suggests the person in question is a little un-dateable, you can just say ‘But Forbes said they were!’

Of course, Ivanka Trump is the hottest single in New York City, and who would want Donald Trump as a father-in-law? George Clooney too, is the cliché of a bachelor, known only for his love of his pet pig, but we all want what we can’t have, don’t we?

John Mayer and Cameron Diaz are the latest celebrity couple

Standup comedian, blogger, and sometimes singer John Mayer sure gets around. Yesterday everyone was saying that he must be dating Mandy Moore considering that they were spotted out to lunch together in NY. He had a whole night out bar hopping with Cameron Diaz, though, so that means they’re dating now:

Cameron Diaz has dipped back into the musician well to find herself a new guy — John Mayer! The 34-year-old Shrek actress, whose almost 4-year relationship with Justin Timberlake ended in January, and rocker Mayer were spotted out in New York last night, a source exclusively tells Usmagazine.com. “They went out to several places…It was the two of them, getting to know each other, out on the town.”

According to a source, Diaz, who is in New York filming the comedy What Happens in Vegas, and Mayer have known each other for awhile. “This was technically not their first time hanging out…they’ve hung out together with friends before. But this was the first time together like this. It’s new and developing…but they really like each other and it went well,” a source explained.

[From US Weekly]

Both Diaz and Mayer’s reps refused comment, while Mandy Moore says she’s just friends with the randy musician.

Mayer sure got a lot of mileage out of his few months with Jessica Simpson. Maybe he figures he may as well bang another famous woman if he wants to keep his name in the glossies. That’s just about the only reason I could come up with for someone wanting to date Cameron Diaz. I guess this means she dumped Criss Angel back when he bragged about her after his big stunt.

This is the guy who told a Rolling Stone journalist last September that he’d like to see a couple have sex in person, said he slept with three girls a week when he was on tour, and called his penis Dominican because it was dark and had a great batting average. Mind you he was really high at the time and probably thought it was a good idea to give silly controversial responses so that he would get publicity. Back when I was single I would Google the guys I was dating, and I would have avoided this guy based on that interview, even if he was kidding. I mean if I was famous I would have stayed away from him. As a nobody I probably would have taken my chances just so that I could say I dated John Mayer. Lame, isn’t it?

Here’s Mayer getting some wine last night in NY. I wonder if he and Diaz enjoyed it with a good bowl. Thanks to Splash News for these pics.
