Are Catherine Zeta Jones and Michael Douglas on the verge of a split?

Last week we heard that Catherine Zeta-Jones had checked into a psychiatric facility for routine maintenance for her bipolar II disorder. Many people assumed that it was to adjust her medication, which can be difficult and stressful to do at home. The Daily Mail has a long article pointing to Catherine’s floundering career, saying that she’s having problems at home with her marriage, and claiming that things must be horrible for her if she’s checking into treatment. I don’t agree, but I’d like to talk about it. Here are some excerpts, with more at the source:

While the actress’s spokeswoman tried to play down the episode, there are fears that problems in her marriage to Douglas — who was said to have moved out of the couple’s New York home for a time last summer — and a string of film flops may have sparked a relapse in her condition.

It is the second time she has sought treatment: two years ago, she was admitted to the £770-a-day Silver Hill Hospital in Connecticut for five days because of the stress of coping with Douglas’s battle with advanced throat cancer.

Once the news broke, Catherine’s Los Angeles-based PR team went into overdrive. Her spokeswoman, Cece Yorke, issued a statement saying: ‘Catherine has proactively checked into a health-care facility. Previously, she has said she is committed to periodic care in order to manage her health in an optimum manner.’

According to her team, her 30-day ‘maintenance’ stay has been arranged so doctors can monitor her drugs and has ‘always been part of the plan’.

It is a claim that has been disputed by mental health professionals.

‘What her spokesman has said makes no sense at all,’ renowned Beverly Hills psychiatrist Dr Carole Lieberman told the Mail this week.

‘If there was nothing wrong and she was coping with life, she wouldn’t need to go into a hospital.

‘The idea that you can have this so-called maintenance programme is just not how it works. You can’t schedule it, like bringing your car in every six months. The reason patients are admitted to a psychiatric unit is because their condition is so serious and acute that they need to be in hospital.’

It isn’t clear exactly what has triggered this suspected relapse, but the Douglases — who are worth £185 million — have had their fair share of problems of late, any one of which could bring about understandable marital tensions…

They spoke out following claims in a U.S. magazine they had undergone a ‘hush-hush trial separation’.

The reports were prompted by claims that Fatal Attraction star Michael, 68, had briefly moved out of the couple’s main home, a stunning Thirties white mansion which they bought for £3.2 million in the upmarket enclave of Bedford, New York.

He was said to be living nearby in a converted barn owned by a multi-millionaire friend. It was claimed the marriage had buckled under the pressure of Michael’s cancer, for which he underwent aggressive chemotherapy and radiation treatment in 2010…

At around the time of the couple’s alleged split, Catherine’s friend Charlotte Church hinted at tensions in the marriage when she told chat-show host Graham Norton that Douglas had been angry over his wife’s boozy partying with the Welsh singer following a celebrity golf tournament.

‘We were singing and having a great time and Michael was really p***** off. He was fuming and went to bed early,’ she said.

Certainly, the couple’s relationship is far from conventional. As she laughed off the claims of problems, Catherine — who found fame in the Nineties in The Darling Buds Of May — let slip that they give each other ‘space’.

‘That’s why our marriage lasts,’ she insisted. That ‘space’ has involved them spending ‘me time’ apart from each other at their various homes around the world, which include a house on Bermuda overlooking the Atlantic, a rural home in Majorca, a vast apartment with views of Central Park in Manhattan and a mountain retreat near Quebec.

[From The Daily Mail]

I think it’s unfair for some random doctor to claim that she must be in an awful state to check into a facility. That might be true in general for people of average means, in certain countries, but I know people in Germany who have gone to 30 day inpatient treatment centers just to get their medication adjusted. When you run the risk of side effects and problems from discontinuing medication it’s probably best to do it in a monitored environment. She can afford the best of everything, so why not do it under supervision?

As for whether Catherine and Michael are having problems, I bet they are. It sounds like Catherine has been dropping subtle hints. But they’re sticking together for now, and that’s what matters. I really hope that they work it out and that she’s able to get her condition stabilized. They’ve gone through so much with Michael’s cancer and Catherine’s illness. I’m rooting for them.

Catherine Zeta-Jones enters 30 day treatment for bipolar disorder

Catherine Zeta-Jones has been open and honest with the press about the fact that she has bipolar disorder. She hasn’t gotten into details, but two years ago she admitted that she’s bipolar, that she’s sought treatment for it, and she’s said that she wants to raise awareness of the disease. She’s been very classy about her diagnosis, as we’ve come to expect from her. Unfortunately Catherine recently checked into a facility for treatment for her bipolar disorder, with sources claiming that it’s for “maintenance” reasons:

Catherine Zeta-Jones has checked in to a treatment center to get more help for her Bipolar disorder … TMZ has learned.

We’ve learned … the 43-year-old Academy Award winner checked in to the treatment center Monday … and is expected to complete a 30-day program.

Sources connected to the actress tell us … Jones’ stint in the treatment center is a proactive measure. As one source puts it, “It’s maintenance.”

FYI — Jones completed a stint at a treatment center in 2011 — at the time, her rep said Catherine had “made the decision to check in to a mental health facility for a brief stay to treat her Bipolar II disorder.”

[From TMZ]

It was right around this time in 2011 that Catherine sought treatment. It’s possible that she needed to have her meds adjusted and that she wanted to make sure she did it in a supervised environment. I hope that everything works out well for her. As for why she announced it, it’s probably because Catherine and Michael wanted to get ahead of the tabloids, which haven’t been very kind to them in the past. The Enquirer had a cover story a couple of months ago that they were breaking up, which they denied.

As an aside, last night I watched about half of Rock of Ages before I decided to find something else on demand. (Then I saw about half of The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, which was cute so I’ll probably finish that tonight. I watch too much TV!) Rock of Ages is fun and campy, but it quickly lost its appeal with the exception of some standout characters like Catherine Zeta-Jones. She was excellent as the mayor’s anti-rock & roll wife (see: Tipper Gore) and she really shines while playing those extreme characters. She was also kick-ass in Intolerable Cruelty, with George Clooney, remember that movie? She knows how to entertain us and I’m wishing well for her.

These photos of Catherine and Michael are from just last week, April 22. She looks gorgeous. Also this reminds me that Beyond the Candelabra is coming out on May 26.

Amy Adams in huge Oscar de la Renta at the Oscars: amazing or ridiculous?

Best Supporting Actress nominee Amy Adams wore this pale silver Oscar de la Renta gown with a huge fluffy ruffled skirt, a fitted sweetheart bodice and a train that would have seemed excessive for a royal bride. I love to see Amy on the red carpet, she usually looks amazing, and she often mixes it up and takes calculated fashion risks that pay off for her. This dress feels uninspired somehow, like it’s over the top but in a way that’s not risky at all. There’s something “off” about the look. Plus the color of the gown washes her out, and her styling leaves something to be desired. This is better than last year’s Oscar look for Amy, but she went “too formal” where she was too casual in 2012. She’ll get her fashion and makeup exactly right when she does win that Oscar, and I suspect it won’t be long now.

Here’s another Best Actress nominee, Helen Hunt, who of course got shut out by AnnE and her unstoppable false humility. Unlike Anne, Helen went with a decidedly downmarket designer for her Oscar gown, H&M! She told Ryan Seacrest that H&M was “going green, they work with this company Global Green that I love. It’s a win-win.” Helen’s navy strapless gown wasn’t a standout, but coupled with her gorgeous jewelry and how pretty and comfortable she looked, it definitely was a win-win.

Catherine Zeta Jones wore this gold sequin and mesh mermaid Zuhair Murad gown that just looked trashy, especially on screen. There was too much going on with the complicated beading on the bodice and the curlicue throughout the skirt. Her hair was really fake looking too. When Ryan Seacrest interviewed her with Michael Douglas, I got the impression that Douglas was kind of drunk, but she seemed to hold it together.

CZJ performed “All That Jazz” as part of one of the many musical numbers that were like bags of pretzels handed out during a really long flight. (At least CZJ’s performance was. I would never say that about Adele or Babs.) She also presented Best Musical Score, along with her fellow castmembers from Chicago. (That movie came out 10 years ago. I don’t get it.)

Octavia Spencer was in her go-to designer, Tadashi Shoji, and I like that she went with a different fit than the Grecian dresses she was wearing last year. (Maybe that style is on the wane anyway.) Renee Zellweger said something last night that explained to me celebrities are so loyal to a specific designer. She said, about Carolina Herrera, “I love her and I love her team… I always look forward to those guys showing up.” That makes a lot of sense, they get to know and trust these designers. I get why celebrities form a relationship with one designer who consistently makes them look good instead of paying a stylist who may have her own motivations.

Octavia looks lovely and I like her asymmetric neckline here. The bangs are a little much, but her styling is otherwise pretty. This is the kind of skirt that I would have liked to see on Amy Adams’ dress – big and flowy but not comical.

Catherine Zeta Jones and Michael Douglas deny Enquirer’s split cover

This week’s upcoming National Enquirer has a typical attention-getting cover featuring Catherine Zeta-Jones and Micheal Douglas’ alleged split after 12 years of marriage. In terms of the Enquirer’s veracity, well I put less stake in their cover stories as they need to move copies. They have an older readership who would be interested if these two broke up, is what I’m saying. That’s not to say it’s not true, just that they may be making mountains out of regular relationship issue molehills. Or maybe The Enquirer is jumping to conclusions based on Catherine and Michael’s separate public appearances lately. Not that there have been too many of them. In a preview on The Daily Mail, The Enquirer points to the fact that CZJ and Michael haven’t been attending each other’s events. Maybe they’re just trading off time with the kids. Here’s more:

Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones have denied reports that their marriage has been under strain.

The celebrity couple, who have been married for 12 years, were reported by the National Enquirer to have recently been in the midst of a ‘hush hush trial separation.’

However a representative told MailOnline that ‘the story is completely false.’

Indeed, the couple have been looking more in love than ever lately, appearing together on the New York red carpet for Catherine’s latest film Side Effects and at New York Fashion Week.

The Enquirer alleges that the marriage ‘buckled under the pressure of dealing with Michael’s cancer battle, his son Cameron’s incarceration on drugs charges and Catherine’s struggle with bipolar II disorder.’

The publication even claims that 68-year-old Michael ‘moved out’ of the home he shared with the 43-year-old actress and children Dylan, 12, and nine-year-old Carys, moving into a nearby rental property.

‘Michael said something to the effect that he and Catherine were taking a “time out”, and he was looking forward to having an entire house as his personal man cave,’ a source said…

According to the Enquirer, cracks began to publicly appear when Catherine was a ‘no show’ at a special screening of her father-in-law Kirk Douglas’s film Spartacus last year.

‘Michael made some lame excuse, but when she skipped the family dinner, it was obvious that something was not right,’ a source said. ‘I think he felt completely betrayed that Catherine didn’t show up.’

However, representatives for the star insist that Catherine was in attendance at the dinner.

The Enquirer reports that the Welsh actress is ‘determined’ to save the marriage for the sake of the children.

‘It’s because of Dylan and Carys that Michael and Catherine aren’t giving up on each other,’ the source said.’But only time will tell if they can make things work over the long haul.’

The report comes after Michael gave a recent interview to People saying his wife is ‘more beautiful than ever.’

And he said he supports the 43-year-old Welsh star with everything because she is ‘simply the best’.

He told People magazine: ‘Catherine and I are doing well. She is more beautiful than ever inside and out. I support her with everything and she is simply the best.’

[From The Daily Mail]

The thing that rings falsest to me is that the Enquirer is claiming Catherine didn’t attend that family dinner with the venerable Kirk Douglas while the rep is like “uh, she was there.” So their case seems to be based on some flimsy, and incorrect evidence. We’ll see, but I just can’t imagine these two breaking up.

I have heard that Michael isn’t planning on attending the Oscars, where Catherine is singing as part of some tribute to musical films. (She was in Chicago, I think that’s it for her musicals.) The dude is a 68 year-old cancer survivor. My dad is a couple years younger than that and he’s in great health but he wouldn’t want to sit through the Oscars, either. It’s probably a royal pain in the ass for some celebrities to get dressed up, show up, sit through the long ceremony, act interested, make small talk and then be expected to go to parties afterwards. I don’t blame Michael for skipping and I don’t think it necessarily speaks to any problems in his marriage. I don’t want these two to break up, though! I really like them together.

Thanks to A for the tip!

Rooney Mara in Alexander McQueen at the ‘Side Effects’ premiere: lovely or fug?

Here are some photos from last night’s NYC premiere of Side Effects, that Steven Soderbergh film which looks surprisingly good. I’m not sure if the film is actually supposed to be a suspense/thriller (as opposed to a straight drama), but that’s the way the commercials make it seem, and I’m up for it. Also surprising: everybody looked pretty good at the premiere. I think Catherine Zeta Jones looked the best – she wore this Michael Kors gown which looks stunning on her. Zeta killed it!

Rooney Mara, the controversial “star” of the film (Soderbergh wanted Blake Lively originally), wore white Alexander McQueen for her big premiere. You know what? I don’t hate it. I think this would have looked awful on most women, but it kind of works on someone with Rooney’s slight build. The middle-part/slicked-down hair is bad – I would love to see her hair with some body, some fluff, something different. But the dress is okay and it’s interesting.

As for the boys – Channing looked nice in his Dolce & Gabbana suit, although I’m not really crazy about his recently-shorn head. He just looks better with hair. This hairstyle makes him look even more meathead-ish. And Jude… well, Jude Law is making love to the cameras. Jude Law is the business. There’s a reason why he keeps getting ladies pregnant.

Catherine Zeta-Jones on her 12 yo son’s puberty: ‘everything is a phallic symbol’

Catherine Zeta Jones is doing the publicity rounds for her new movie, Side Effects, which co-stars Jude Law, Channing Tatum and Rooney Mara. It’s a thriller with a prescription drug premise and is out next week. I keep seeing promos for it and it actually looks pretty good. Anyway, it’s nice to see Catherine out and about, and I especially enjoyed her seeing her at the Golden Globes. She looks fab as usual, although I question whether she’s “43″ as she claims. (It’s not just me! The suggested Google Searches for “Catherine Zeta Jones age” are “Catherine Zeta Jones age lie” and “Catherine Zeta Jones age 51.”) So people are wondering about it, although I know that a lot of you claim that her early acting history proves she’s as young as she says. She’s a smoker and she goes in for some injectables like a lot of other Hollywood types, that could explain it. She doesn’t look plastic and she looks amazing! Just not 43.

Anyway, Catherine gave some quotes on last night’s Tonight Show which are sure to embarrass her 12 year-old son, Dylan Michael Douglas. She said he’s becoming a teenager and that “everything is a phallic symbol, everything is a penis.” I get that it’s funny, but that’s something you bitch about to your friends, not on national television! I feel sorry for that poor kid with his mom blabbing like that. Here’s more:

Catherine: He’s 12, how did that happen? He really is coming into his formative teenage years. Well everything, anything is a phallic symbol, everything looks like a penis. It’s like ‘oh gosh, how long is this going to go on?’ Does it ever stop Jay?

Jay: It doesn’t stop.

Catherine: I thought so, I’m not a guy, obviously.

Alright, so maybe that isn’t as bad as I thought it was and she’s just surprised by a universal guy thing. I don’t know, my kid is young and farts are funny to him. See, I just embarrassed my kid publicly, it’s hard not to do that when you’re a parent. It’s payback.

Catherine also said that Dylan was the last kid to get a cellphone in his class, at 11, and that “he’s calling his girlfriend now… when we were kids we didn’t have all these gadgets, we just played.

Extra also has a new interview with Zeta-Jones, in which she addresses her bipolar disorder and gives some nice quotes about her husband playing Liberace.

Catherine Zeta Jones plays a psychiatrist in her new movie, “Side Effects” and the star opened up to “Extra’s” Jerry Penacoli about her own personal battle with bipolar disorder.

Jerry, “In terms of your own personal problems with this issue, will you talk to your children about it?” Catherine, “Sure I will, if they’re even interested in it, personal issues I like to remain personal, but this is a disease that effects many many people…In America it’s much more open, in Britain we have that kind of stiff upper lip, you know keep calm, carry on, get over it, what are you nuts?”

Both Catherine and Michael Douglas carrying on in spite of their health challenges, Catherine saying her husband is doing incredibly well.

As for her husband’s role in “Behind the Candelabra” Catherine said, “It’s fantastic, my husband is amazing and hey if he had to go to bed or kiss anybody, let it be Matt Damon rather than anybody else.” Jerry, “You weren’t jealous at
all?” Catherine, “Actually, I WAS jealous.”

While director Steven Soderbergh who is behind both “Side Effects” and “Behind the Candelabra” is planning on retiring from movies, Catherine hinted that he will come back to direct her in a stage performance based on Cleopatra, “Cleo” which she says is in the early stages of development.

[From Extra TV]

She handled the bipolar question really well. I like how she made it about raising awareness in general and deflected the personal aspect of it. She was quite brave to go public with her diagnosis.

Extra has a video clip of Zeta-Jones’ interview here. She’s so composed and yet humorous. I missed her!

Catherine Zeta-Jones covers InStyle: ‘The smartest thing I did was to stop going online’

Catherine Zeta-Jones really did take a big step back after she announced last year that she was suffering from a bipolar disorder. She checked into a mental health facility, came out and then continued about her business, filming a few movies and basically living the same glamorous life that she’s always lived with Michael Douglas. In January, she’s got that horrible-looking Playing for Keeps coming out – it’s a rom-com starring Jessica Biel and Gerard Butler, and Zeta is like the fourth lead down. I’m not sure why that warrants an InStyle cover, but sure. Here she is on the December cover – it’s not a very good image, is it? Thankfully, the interview is a lot better:

Going public with her bipolar disorder: “It’s been an intense time, in good ways and bad. You find out who you really are and who you’re married to. You find things inside yourself you never imagined were there. I’ve gained an appreciation for little things, like tea outside on a terrace and a beautiful afternoon like this. ”

Dealing with criticism: “You can’t escape what people say, and if you’re human it can be painful. The smartest thing I did was to stop going online. I’m the sort of person who will just look for the negative. [My husband] Michael [Douglas] can’t really understand it, but that is the way I am. With my bipolar thing, that’s poison. So I just stopped. Cold turkey. And it’s so liberating.”

Raising awareness: “I’m not the kind of person who likes to shout out my personal issues from the rooftops, but with my bipolar becoming public, I hope fellow suffers will know it is completely controllable. I hope I can help remove any stigma attached to it, and that those who didn’t have it under control will seek help with all that is available to treat it.”

Exercise: “I don’t have a trainer. Crazy, right? But I don’t need anyone to motivate me. I love exercise, even things like the elliptical and stretching. It really helps my mood too, which, with the bipolar thing, is important… I’m obsessed with hula-hooping. I do it for 20 minutes a day. I don’t use the old-fashioned hollow plastic kind we had when we were kids, but I discovered a new one at Danskin that’s smaller and weighted.”

Building her dream closet: “I’m building a closet in my house now, and it’s like a dream. Racks on each side, a whole boudoir. I sit in there and watch CNN. Michael says one day I’m going to go in and never come out!”

Her real style: “I love clothes, and yes, we go out, but it’s not like I’m walking around all day in a negligee with fluffy mules. We’re country people, really. I garden and knit. I golf. We ride horses. It’s true, I don’t like the whole cutoff-shorts-and-T-shirt look, but I think you can look fantastic in casual clothes.”

[Via People Magazine and InStyle]

God, Zeta reminds me of me. I can obsess on the negative too. I don’t need a trainer either – I can motivate myself just fine, thank you. I would love to sit in my closet and watch CNN. I too am probably more “country” than people know. Me and Zeta, sisters under the skin. I would say it was because of the Virgo sign, but Zeta missed being a Virgo by a couple of days – she’s a Libra! Still, we’re totes sisters.

As for her whole “It’s not like I’m walking around all day in a negligee with fluffy mules. We’re country people, really” thing – who is she kidding? I mean, I don’t think she just wanders around in evening gowns all the time, but I do believe she’s incapable of NOT being glamorous and put-together.

Catherine Zeta-Jones v. Julianne Hough: who worked it at the ‘RoA’ premiere?

Catherine Zeta-Jones Julianne Hough

Catherine Zeta-Jones and Julianne Hough were both bold on the red carpet for the Rock of Ages Los Angeles premiere at Grauman’s Chinese Theater. Let me start out by saying (as a 37-year-old woman) that I highly sympathize with Catherine for having to pose alongside an early-20s, hot young thing. Despite the age difference, I am leaning towards claiming a (slight) win for Catherine here. Let us consider the differences.

Julianne Hough

Julianne’s dress was a chartreuse Kaufmanfranco silk crepe gown that was cut on the bias. The color was an unconventional choice and appropriate for her first (real) big outing (Footloose doesn’t count). From the front, the dress looks pretty amazing, but something bizarre occurs when Julianne turns around for the requisite “behind” pose. The nude panelling seems to gather up and create the illusion of back fat, which Julianne simply does not possess. Also, are those pre-shadowed butt cheeks installed in the dress? Admittedly, the possibility fascinates me, and I’m wondering if this is a “Ryan Seacrest, tie this butt down with a ring” sort of strategy. Despite the cute butt (and all that it entails), the back view is kind of a disaster for a prospective leading lady.

Julianne Hough

Julianne Hough

Julianne’s fresh makeup and hair was fairly appropirate and balanced out some of the mess of the dress. I love the unexpected, lopsided topknot.

Julianne Hough

In contrast, Catherine’s dress was a Zuhair Murad design and would probably be considered a cocktail dress, but the one-sleeve design (by its own volition) would ideally translate into a design that is bold without being too revealing. However, the black lace with nude underpanelling sort of screams, “Hey, look at me, boys!” Overall, Catherine has the chutzpah to pull this look off without looking too try-hard. But just barely.

Catherine Zeta-Jones

Catherine Zeta-Jones

The closeup view of Catherine’s makeup is a bit iffy but only because she seems to look “different” these days but in an undefinable way.

Catherine Zeta-Jones

Malin Ackerman

Malin Ackerman, on the other hand, was far too showoffy in her black Reem Acra gown with very significant cutouts on the left side. This is far too much skin to be showing off when one isn’t playing a leading lady role, but I think Malin’s general look is rather blah and forgettable, so perhaps she took a worthy risk here. Thoughts?

Malin Ackerman

Fergie Josh Duhamel

Fergie and Josh Duhamel were weirder than usual together. I guess he dressed for the occasion, but she just looks like a trashy rock groupie, which is also admittedly appropriate here.

Ashley Tisdale

Ashley Tisdale wore a short little cocktail dress to the event that will do nothing to shake her Disney-bred image. Perhaps she should try for a bit of glamour during her next movie premiere outing.

Mary J. Blige

Mary J. Blige wore a shiny black trash bag on the red carpet, but at least it was a fitted, asymmetrically-cut trash bag and not a baggy Angelina Jolie-styled trash bag.

Debbie Gibson

Debbie Gibson and her rockin’ bod wore a pretty cute red dress. She looks great, but I don’t ever think she’ll have a musical comeback.

Tom Cruise continues to rock out in new ‘Rock of Ages’ stills: OMG, his stomach.

Tom Cruise is at it again (that is, grossing me out) in some new Rock of Ages stills from Collider. Sure, I’ll admit to being rather unkind towards Tom as he rocked out in two awful trailers, and things have gotten particularly ugly with the arrival of Tom’s tattooed W mag cover and embarrassing full shoot. To reiterate, I’m not terribly crazy about Tom as a person (it’s a Xenu thing), but I legitimately take great issue with the fact that he’s playing Stacee Jaxx in a very unironic manner, which is not how the character is portrayed in the Broadway show.

Tom himself has even bragged about reinventing the Stacee role as a serious rock star and insisting that his version of the character be accompanied by a monkey called “Hey Man.” In fact, Tom is so bloody serious about this role that he prepared for the role by dancing and singing ten hours per day, and (last summer) he even took advantage of some down time to rock out on a hotel balcony to universal cringes. So am I overreacting a bit to Tom’s overzealous nature in this role? Well just wait until he ruins A Star is Born as well. Here are those aforementioned new Rock of Ages stills. In this one, poor Paul Giamatti is being forced to feel up Tom’s rock star moobs.

Tom Cruise

In some of the other stills, Alec Baldwin and Russell Brand are camping it up as the proprietors of the club where Stacee Jaxx performs. Clearly, Baldwin and Brand understand the cheese factor involved with this movie. Too bad they couldn’t both teach Tom a few things, but nobody teaches Tom anything. That’s the main problem I see with this film thus far — director Adam Shankman was just so thrilled to have Tom Cruise in his little movie that he neglected to give his lead actor some, you know, direction.

Russell Brand Alec Baldwin

Russell Brand Alec Baldwin

Julianne Hough is digging the hairspray in this movie. Nice attention to detail with the rusty sinks. She’s still not a leading lady though.

Julianne Hough

Diego Bonita: I still don’t get it.

Diego Bonita

Catherine Zeta-Jones appears to be truly embracing her role as an anti-rock ‘n’ roll activist. I would hope that she’s merely collecting a paycheck here and didn’t sign on for the “art” factor.

Is Catherine Zeta-Jones maintaining her 42-year-old beauty with Botox & fillers?

Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas

Last week, we had lots of new Catherine Zeta-Jones photos. Catherine, 42 (cough), and Michael Douglas were spotted out at a theater event, and at the Vanity Fair party for the Tribeca Film Festival. On both outings, I though Catherine looked really nice – pulled together, confident, and lovely. If anything, I kept my eye on her bust, because I’m still obsessed with the idea that Michael bought Catherine some new boobs – and don’t even try to tell me she always had those boobs. They were only this big when she was pregnant! Anyway, beyond Bolt-On Watch, I didn’t really notice anything amiss on Catherine. But Radar’s crack team of plastic surgeons noticed something – they claim Catherine is a Botox Monster, as seen in photos you can see here.

As Catherine Zeta Jones stood by her husband Michael Douglas’ side on Saturday night, for once it wasn’t the state of his health that had the audience whispering, but the startling taught, line free appearance of the Oscar winning actress’ face.

With her eyebrows appearing unnaturally high and her skin super smooth, and the 42-year-old Welsh born actress looked remarkably frozen at the 2012 Windward School benefit at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York City, and RadarOnline.com has exclusive insight about what she might have had done.

“Catherine Zeta Jones looks like she’s beginning to follow in her husband Michael Douglas’ plastic surgery footsteps,” celebrity plastic surgeon Dr. Anthony Youn, who has not treated the star, told Radar in an exclusive interview.

“Her cheeks look somewhat plump, and may be due to injections of a filler like Sculptra. Her forehead and crows feet are also very smooth for a woman her age, likely a result of Botox injections,” he explained.

“Botox is typically not injected under the eyes, though, hence the wrinkles in her lower eyelids,” said Dr. Youn.

Considering the stress she has been under since Michael was diagnosed with throat cancer in August 2010, it is understandable that Catherine might have needed a little surgical refresher, but we only hope she doesn’t go too far and ruin her natural beauty.

[From Radar]

I went through our most recent photos of Catherine and Radar’s selected photos, and I really don’t see anything crazy. I’ll buy that she’s had some Botox, especially in her forehead. But Catherine hasn’t gone overboard with the “non-invasive procedures” like some celebrities. I don’t see fillers, I don’t see a facelift or an eye job or anything like that. If she’s done anything, I think it’s just some forehead Botox, as I said. And do you hate her for that? For messing with her pretty face? I don’t. Mostly because she still looks like herself. She hasn’t damaged her pretty.
