Evan Rachel Wood in bronze Gucci at the LACMA event: gorgeous or too matchy?

Here we have some final photos from the LACMA 2012 Art + Film Gala Honoring Ed Ruscha and Stanley Kubrick and sponsored by Gucci. Kaiser covered some of the bigger names on Sunday, and Bedhead brought us a few more this morning. To start I’d like to discuss the lovely Evan Rachel Wood, looking like a million bucks in Gucci. This bronze scaled sequin one shoulder dress illusion dress is so striking on her. Her hair, makeup and accessories are perfection. It’s all a little matchy but comes across as effortlessly coordinated. This is a young woman who knows what works on her, and who works different looks seamlessly without looking like she’s even trying. She’s a kick ass actress and a chameleon on the red carpet. I’m looking forward to great things from her. Check out her lovely engagement ring, she’s been engaged to Jamie Bell since around Christmas last year. Is a spring wedding forthcoming? Update: Radar reports that these two are getting married this week, and that they got a license on October 16th in Beverly Hills. I hope we get to see pics of their wedding! They’re such a cute couple.

Amy Adams was stunning in a bright yellow strapless Gucci gown accented with a rhinestone belt. I have similar coloring to Amy and I’m not sure that I could wear a dress this color. It’s washing her out a little, but she’s balancing it out somewhat with her gorgeous hair and understated makeup. Check out this photo of her below smiling and showing teeth, it’s cracking me up! It’s great to see her looking so loved-up with her husband, actor director Darren Le Gallo, on the red carpet. His facial hair is not doing it for me though.

Ginnifer Goodwin looks like she’s taking herself way too seriously on the red carpet. She doesn’t seem like such a bitter pill on screen and comes across as rather innocent and sweet, but maybe that’s down to her acting ability. We don’t have photos of her from inside the event, but JustJared does and she looks just as haughty there. Here she is in Gucci gracing us with her presence. I don’t think she pulls off this look, she’s giving me Black Swan meets Norma Desmond vibes, but with a little humor she might have. Goodwin is shown with her boyfriend and “Once Upon a Time” costar, Josh Dallas.

I love Jennifer Morrison but I have to say she looks a little Botoxy squinty here. I think it’s the combination of her hairstyle and black-rimmed eyes. That eye makeup trend really needs to go away, heavy black liner on the membranes of eyes only makes eyes them look smaller. You know who she looks like here, Bar Refaeli. That’s not a bad thing at all, they’re both lovely women. We might assume that Morrison’s bizarre pantshuit is Gucci, but I can’t get a definite ID on it. She’s got an amazing figure but this black suit is not that great. At first I thought it was a cutout dress, but it has pants and the stripe across the front is covered with a sheer white material that continues along the back. Morrison was also there with her “Once” costar, Sebastian Stan, whom she’s said to be dating.

Amber Heard in little black Gucci at LACMA: lovely or OMG, awful necklace?

Amber Heard

By and far, the name of the evening for the LAMCA Art + Film event was Gucci. Keeping with the theme of the evening, Amber Heard wore a black Gucci dress with matching, open-toed, multi-strapped Gucci Lisbeth pumps, and the dress itself wasn’t bad at all. It was very figure-flattering, and Amber pulled the short length and sleeveless aspect off well. Now as for that “statement” necklace around her neck, I just don’t know what she was thinking. I suppose it fancies things up quite a bit with what would have otherwise been just another little black dress, right?

Amber is a gorgeous woman, and even though I’m still getting used to her with dark hair (for her role in Paranoia), she has a great presence on the red carpet. She definitely made a good choice going with an updo and bold lipstick (with matching nails) for this dress. Still not sure about that necklace though. I think if it had been missing those little “fans” at the top, it would have been okay. As it stands, the necklace is far too much of a “statement” piece.

Minka Kelly

Minka Kelly and Chris Evans both attended the event but walked the red carpet separately. Minka has certainly been embracing the maxi-dress trend lately, hasn’t she? Girl’s got such a great figure, and I’ve got no idea why she’s hiding it (cue vicious pregnancy rumors?), but this particular maxi dress is Gucci as well. She also avoided giving sideboob in manner of Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. Good for Minka.

Florence Welch loves her weird ass fashion, and Gucci was able to fit the bill here with this blue-violet, chiffon gown. This is a very severe look, but Florence is not a subtle woman by any stretch. Her hair and makeup are appropriate(ly weird) too, but I would have added a simple and sparkly necklace to complete the look.

Florence Welch

Jeremy Renner was there too, bitches. He looked exactly like he always does at an event, but I’m not complaining.

Jeremy Renner

Tom Hanks

Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson were also in attendance! I don’t know who designed this spangly, shapeless, sleeveless, grey dress, but I’m guessing it was Gucci as well. Rita looks like she’s having a great time, but I can’t believe she’s gone ombre. Some subtle, all-around highlights would have made her hair look excellent. Her foundation/powder is also a bit too pale for her skintone, so she seems a bit ghostly.

Kim Kardashian channels ‘Splash’ mermaid for Halloween party: awful or cute?

Here are some photos of Kim Kardashian at last night’s Midori Halloween party in New York City. Do you know what she is? She’s a mermaid. Specifically, she seems to be Darryl Hannah’s mermaid in Splash. Or, the trashiest version of that mermaid, because this is all very… budget. I honestly think that part of Kim’s Midori contract is that she has to wear green whenever she does a Midori event, so that must have affected how she thought up her “costume,” but I could think of much cuter costume ideas that involve “green” as opposed to this mess.

You know what my biggest problem might be? The blonde wig. I am one of those people who could never pull off any shade of blonde, ever. Kim is also one of those people. This wig ages her, it makes her kat-face look extra crazy and feline, and it just does nothing for her coloring. But… whatever. It was just for a night, and it was a Halloween costume. Now we know. Now we know she can’t pull off blonde. Now we know that if she wears shells on her boobs, her bolt-ons will spill out.

Kanye came to the event with her, but they didn’t really pose on the red carpet together. A few nights ago, Kanye went solo to an event for Samsung, but he was still thinking about Kim:

Kanye West has been bragging about his girlfriend’s curves. The rapper was spotted showing off bikini shots of Kim Kardashian backstage at the Samsung Galaxy Note II event at Skylight. “Kanye was showing 2 Chainz pictures of Kim in a bikini,” says a spy. Giants star Victor Cruz, Kid Cudi and French Montana also attended. “Jersey Shore” star Vinny Guadagnino was heard asking where Kim was, says a source, who heard West respond, “Getting that money! Working!”

[From Page Six]

I know it’s kind of gross to think of Kanye showing his friends photos of his girlfriend in a bikini, but I kind of find it endearing. I know, I know. I might be drinking the Kardashian Kool-Aid a little bit. But I do think Kanye loves that busted mermaid ass.

Cameron Diaz in Gucci at the LACMA event: totally unfortunate or not that bad?

These are some photos from last night’s LACMA 2012 Art + Film Gala Honoring Ed Ruscha and Stanley Kubrick presented by Gucci. There were some big names and a ton of B-listers at the event, so I’m just going to cover the most notable people today, and tomorrow we’ll probably have more fashion coverage. Incidentally, Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux were at the event and they posed for photos inside the event, but neither walked the red carpet. Aniston wore a cleavage-y black dress and she looked pretty good – you can see those photos here.

I suppose the most notable person at the event was Robert Pattinson. Ever since The Twihard Meltdown of 2012, it really feels like Robert is trying to do more “establishment Hollywood” stuff, and he’s doing it solo. Like, when he gets invited to a big industry event or a decent charity event these days, he makes it a point to show up, whereas in the past he might have ignored it. I kind of like seeing him go solo at these kinds of events – it shows that he’s interested in maintaining (and growing) his profile in Hollywood. He looks nice in tux… but his hair is a mess.

Speaking of hot messes, OMG Cameron Diaz. OMG. Just… dear God. She’s wearing Gucci, as most of the women were (for an event sponsored by Gucci). The color is horrendous on her, and the design is just… unflattering. You know what? Cameron Diaz has an amazing figure – she’s leggy and trim and athletic, and this dress makes her look saggy-boob’d, thick-waisted, no-hipped and stick-legged. This dress should be burned.

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley is wearing Gucci too. This dress is decent from the front, mainly because this is such a surprisingly beautiful color on Rosie. I kind of think the back and the side of the dress is a mess. Too much side-boob, too many back ruffles.

Salma Hayek in Gucci… it’s kind of boring choice for her. But she’s been having an awful style run lately, so she gets points for finding something flattering for her figure, and something that doesn’t look “too young”. I really dislike her hair, though.

Pippa Middleton in Stella McCartney: an improvement or totally terrible?

Here are some photos of Pippa Middleton promoting her book, Celebrate, in London yesterday. Guess who designed this awful dress? You’ll NEVER guess. Yes, it’s Stella McCartney. Of course. Because it looks so damn cheap and like whoever designed it has no concept of what flatters a woman’s figure. It’s particularly awful on Pippa’s figure. Personally, I like Pippa’s figure so much more than her sister’s. I think Pippa looks more athletic and less like she’s in the midst of some kind of crash diet. But both Kate and Pippa have very “boyish” frames with extremely slender hips. This is exactly the wrong kind of dress when you don’t have hips – it emphasizes the wrong part of Pippa’s body, and it makes her look thick-waisted. Plus, it looks like she threw on a black dickey on top of a fug dress. Now, I do think her hair & makeup look good – from the neck up, this is the best she’s ever looked, quite honestly.

Anyway, we were sent a preview of this week’s Parade Mag, and it’s basically some selected excerpts from Pippa’s book. I’ll get to the text in a moment, but first you need to take a look at this photo:

OMG. WHY?! Why did you tie strings around donuts and hang them up in a tree?!? Did the donuts do something bad? Were they accused of a crime?

As it turns out, Pippa’s book is full of really dumb ideas. Well… not so much dumb as “obvious.” Parade’s excerpt features Pippa’s Halloween suggestions, which include making pumpkin soup and serving it in a “cauldron”. You could also “string cobwebs on tables; and haunt gardens, attics, and stairways with ghosts made from sheets.” Well, I would have never thought of that!!!! And don’t forget: “Just a simply carved pumpkin lit up among glimmering candles will go a long way to producing the right atmosphere.” OMG BEST ADVICE EVER!! Which is basically the point of the Daily Mail’s hilariously bitchy review of the book, which is brilliantly summed up like this: “Certainly, a few might think that some of what the ambitious younger sister of the Duchess of Cambridge actually writes here must be aimed at some sort of halfwit hostess who has never thrown a party before, can’t bake a potato without laddering her tights and has lost the recipe for making ice.” Poor Pippa. Such a disappointment.

Renee Zellweger in blue Carolina Herrera at NYC event: lovely or unflattering?

I haven’t seen new photos of Renee Zellweger or heard ANY gossip about her in months. The last photos we have of her are from the Met Gala in May. But she appeared like a wood sprite last night in NYC for the 29th Annual Fashion Group International Night Of Stars. Renee wore her favorite designer, Carolina Herrera. Much like Halle Berry, Renee’s style is kind of stuck in the same place it was a decade ago. It’s not such a bad thing – she knows what looks good on her, she knows her body. I will say this… Renee’s face looks really good. I’m sure she’s Botoxing, but she’s not overdoing it from what I can see. She looks oddly less squinty too…?

Renee is 43 years old right now… and am I the only one who kind of misses her in movies? For a while there, she was doing really great work. She doesn’t have anything coming out this year. Or next year. Allegedly, she’s going to be doing a third Bridget Jones film (Bridget Jones’s Baby) at some point. Sigh… so she’s probably at this event just because she felt like having a night out. What’s going on with you, Renee?

More photos from the event… Sarah Jessica Parker in L’Wren Scott, with horizontal stripes. She had the jacket on for street photos and she took the jacket off for the carpet photos. I like the look better with the jacket, although I do like the structure of everything overall – L’Wren Scott is a great designer. And her makeup is a mess.

And here’s Viola Davis and her husband. V looks good in this black-and-white Max Mara dress! I like when she goes without her wig, but I do have a question: this is a tint, right? She’s getting her natural hair tinted or dyed? Because I don’t like the shade she’s using – I think she should go darker.

Halle Berry in Dolce & Gabbana, with Olivier Martinez: dated and/or gorgeous?

Here are some photos from last night’s LA premiere of Cloud Atlas. I kind of want to see this completely bizarre movie, just because I think it’s probably going to be a total mindf—k and sometimes I enjoy those kinds of movies. The film stars an assortment of talent including Halle Berry, Hugh Grant, Tom Hanks, Susan Sarandon, Ben Whishaw, Jim Broadbent, Hugo Weaving, and many, many more, all of whom play multiple characters within the intertwined storylines. I’ll be covering some of the dudes at the premiere in another post. For now, I just want to talk about Halle Berry and her date, Olivier Martinez… and I’ll talk about Susan Sarandon too, at the end.

Halle wore a metallic Dolce & Gabbana cocktail dress to the premiere. I mean… she looks beautiful. She ALWAYS looks beautiful. But she has worn versions of this dress 20 million times before over the course of the past 15 years. This is one of her go-to looks – a strapless cocktail dress, beautifully tailored, with interesting earrings. You could say that she definitely knows what looks good on her, and she totally does. But it gets boring.

As for Halle and Olivier… you know my thoughts on the matter. I think she keeps him in a dungeon. I think he’s afraid to break up with her, lest she go crazy on him and wage a “HE’S RACIST” campaign against him. He does look less squinty here, and he looks good with that haircut. But I still feel bad for the guy. What does their body language say? Does it say “sex dungeon” or just “dungeon”?

I’m also including a photo of Susan Sarandon at the premiere – she looked beautiful. Remember how Susan admitted that she had gotten tweaked? I think she should be The Face of “Responsible Tweaking”. She had a great surgeon, she didn’t go in to try to look 30-something, she didn’t go too far.

Jennifer Lopez matched her Hermès Birkin to her tracksuit: totally 2001?

This is just an FYI: Jennifer Lopez matches her Hermès Birkin bag to her sweatsuit. Oh, should I call it a track suit? I never know what to call it. A matchy-matchy sweatpants and sweatshirt combo is to me a “sweatsuit”. A “track suit” is made out of nylon, and those are water-repellent. IMO. Anyway, that’s not the point. The point is that Jennifer needs to figure out something else for her “casual look” because this is not working. What’s so wrong with a decent pair of jeans and a cute sweater, especially when the outing is “a spot of shopping in London” (which is what they’re doing in these photos)? Why do I feel like J.Lo is trying to make this “sweatsuit + Birkin” thing happen? It’s already “happened” – it happened circa 2001. Otherwise known as “when Jennifer was relevant”. Harsh, I know. But good God, it’s photo-ops like these – and those Birkin-tastic photo-ops by the Kardashians – that make me loathe this kind of lowbrow style.

You know what really upsets me, though? Minus the Birkin, I’m sure the whole outfit costs something like $2000. And people like J.Lo actually pay to look like that.

By the way, have you heard of J.Lo’s new “thing”? During two concert performances in the past week, Jennifer has had a “nip slip”. So either A) her costumes don’t fit because she employs terrible people, B) her costumes don’t fit because she’s gained weight, maybe (?), C) her costumes don’t fit because she’s pregnant with Casper’s baby or D) she’s a dumb famewhore and she wants people to pay attention to her. Which one is it?

Has Anna Wintour forbidden the fashion industry from dressing Ann Romney?

Ann Romney

This story is pretty funny because it’s probably true. Regardless of politics, has anyone noticed how Ann Romney — despite her husband’s enormous wealth (an estimated $250 million) — can’t seem to dress to save her own life? One would think that designers would be falling all over themselves to gain exposure for their lines, but apparently, the reality is just the opposite, and there’s a pretty good reason for that omission. Enter Anna Wintour, who has raised a total of $2.3 million (thus far) for Obama’s re-election campaign and is keen to see her investment protected. Allegedly, Anna is using all of the power in her arsenal to pressure designers into not (voluntarily) dressing Ann Romney for events. Of course, that doesn’t stop Ann from selecting and purchasing her own clothes “off the racks,” which has apparently caused some major panic amongst those particular designers because no one wants to anger the editor of Vogue magazine. What a hilarious mess:

Anna Wintour

Michelle Obama is a clear favourite in the fashion industry. Her outfits sell out within minutes, designers clamor to dress her, and she counts Vogue’s Anna Wintour and J. Crew’s Jenna Lyons as supporters.

While fashion publicists routinely send out handfuls of press releases as soon the 48-year-old is spotted in their client’s brand, 63-year-old Ann Romney’s outfit choices routinely go unclaimed; so much so that many have started asking why.

Some have posed the theory that Vogue’s resident Democrat, Ms Wintour, is silently threatening designers’ standing in her magazine should they endeavor to dress Republican presidential candidate’s wife.

Fashionista wrote: “We receive press release upon press release about Michelle’s campaign wardrobe and it’s become a major coup for a designer to dress Michelle Obama. But we’ve yet to receive one–one–about Ann Romney’s.” For example, after Mrs Romney wore Oscar de la Renta for the first time to the Republican National Convention, the designer’s usually vocal press team was silent.

Meanwhile, fashion and news publications quickly received word that Mrs Obama’s Democratic National Convention dresses were Tracey Reese and Thom Browne, from their respective public relations teams.

And when Mrs Romney wore a printed Diane von Furstenberg wrap dress, the brand’s press team first ignored it. Only after pressure from online media would they state they were “not quite sure how she obtained the dress,” revealing that, unlike many public figures, they had not loaned or given Mrs Romney the outfit.

At a Fashion’s Night Out event in Manhattan last month, the designer announced to the crowd: “Everyone here better be a Democrat; no Republicans!” Ms von Furstenberg then instructed guests to hurry home and “watch the President [on TV] at 10pm,” when he would be giving his DNC speech.

Fashionista’s Haley Phelan wrote: “It might be a little awkward to then turn around and dress his opponent’s wife – which may explain Diane von Furstenberg’s reticence to acknowledge Romney wearing her dress.”

Mrs Obama has long been a supporter of emerging American designers, even before she become First Lady, often wearing Mr Wu and Thakoon Panichgul, who afterwards, quickly became household names. However the Runway to Win campaign has been labelled a contributing factor in its contributing designers’ willingness to dress Mrs Obama so often.

Fashion publicist Lee Everett of LaunchPad PR told Fox News: “The fashion industry is predominantly on the left,” before noting that many brands and designers fear being associated with the Republican party and its marginalizing stances on same-sex marriage and abortion.

Boston-based Alfred Fiandaca is the only designer to publicly lay claim to dressing the “pretty and blonde” Mrs Romney who is often described by the public as today’s aesthetic epitome of a Stepford Wife. After Women’s Wear Daily revealed the he is the go to designer for the First Lady hopeful, Mr Fiandaca was quick to note that Mrs Romney purchases all of his clothes “off the rack.”

[From Daily Mail]

Nobody wants to make Anna Wintour angry! She’s got so much power and could make a lot of designers’ businesses go to hell in a single season if she merely decided not to feature their lines in Vogue. I guess this is fair though, right? Anna can put her money where she wants and use her power to tell designers not to make Ann Romney look good if she so desires. Republicans have their own support from big business as well, and everybody plays dirty when it comes to politics, so I really don’t see the harm in Ann having to pay for her own clothing “off the rack.” She just really needs the help of a much better stylist — but maybe Wintour has gotten to them too!

Duchess Kate in Alice by Temperley in London: too fussy or girlish & pretty?

Here are some photos of Duchess Kate at a Buckingham Palace reception for Olympic and Paralympic medalists yesterday. I’m looking through the photos… and I think only medalists were invited. If you were a member of Team GB and you didn’t get a medal, you did not get to meet Duchess Kate and the Queen. Kate wore ALICE by Temperley for the reception, and I really dislike it. I find all of the extra stuff, the cream detailing on the sleeves and the dust ruffle on the bottom… it’s too much. It’s too fussy and cutesy for my taste.

Nearly two years out from Kate’s engagement announcement to William, we’re getting a clearly idea of what Kate’s fashion is and what it will be in the years to come. Did you predict what we’ve seen so far? I didn’t, honestly. Before her engagement, Kate’s style was a lot more youthful, and she loved clingy little silk jersey dresses. In some ways, her pre-royal family was more tomboy-ish too, as she definitely wore more jeans and low-heeled boots, more structured jackets and the like. Now that she’s a duchess, her style has become so much more girlish. She loves this “fussy” stuff now. She loves lace and flower appliques and pleated details and lots and lots of buttons. Hopefully, she’ll evolve past this, maybe?

Would you like to Bump Watch her? I don’t see any evidence that she’s pregnant right now, but it’s possible. Most people think that she and William have started “trying” now that their Epic Asian Tour is over (it was over in mid-September). Baby announcement for Christmas? That would be exciting!

PS… Her shoes are Jimmy Choo Cosmic pumps.
